The host seriously ruins the show for us.
rg7991231 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
My 8 year old loves these types of cooking/baking shows and was excited for this. The premise is interesting, except the cooking is done with a small amount of the leftovers added to newly cooked ingredients. Some even used a spoonful and it counts. So this isn't really a 'reuse all the leftovers and create something delicious' show. It's a 'cook something and a tiny bit of leftovers in it for good measure' show. That being said, we enjoyed watching the food served up because it's still creative meals. Now the reason for the bad review, the host. She tries way too hard to be cute, funny and likeable and fails hard. I feel like she is trying to be Zooey Dechanel on New Girl and doing a horrible job of it. She comes off as fake and extremely annoying. Her song singing is especially awful and not what we want to end the episode with. She seriously killed the show for us. We made it through a couple episodes and decided we wouldn't watch anymore because she was just too annoying. I liked the 2 foodie/chefs though. With a different host I think we'd really like the show. Shame.

Good concept, horrible host
rynecortez17 January 2021
The concept of this show is good. The cooks, making the different meals, was cool! However, the host was horrible. She was not funny & very annoying. I wanted to mute her, every time she talked. If there's a season 2, they need to change the host

Who let the host on TV?
jensenmkurt13 September 2021
This is a great concept cooking show. Showing us how we can reuse and re invent our leftovers, Reduce food waste.

I have no idea who did the casting for the show and hired this host? I was so annoyed by her for ruining the whole show. She didn't even know what some dishes were and clearly had no cooking experience herself. WHAT IS SHE DOING HOSTING A COOKING SHOW!

I think Rosemary carried this show and was the only one with valid feedback for the contestants.

Good concept, horrible host
sadrianax13 March 2021
Loved the concept, however, the host was not chosen properly. Host was cringy. She made horrible, awkward and weird jokes. Her fridge was annoying. Her guitar was unnecessary. Overall good show to watch, but I skipped and muted every time the host talked. Also I could see the contestants having weird reactions to her jokes, or forcing a laugh. I wondered if those laughs were fake or added.

Remove the host for the love of god
ivanemunoz12 January 2021
I want to start off with that I made an account to write this review. I loved the concept of the inverse option of nailed it that brings you unexperienced chefs to create masterpieces. Well I love that these are skilled chefs making amazing foods with left overs. The two chefs/restaurant owners (David So & Rosemary Shrager) are excellent people to be critiquing the food. Now the stupid names the host gives each one at the beginning of the show isn't necessary at all. It takes away from their own accomplishments and in a way degrades them (for me). I don't enjoy that the host has no knowledge of food and comments are lack luster all of the time. I would continue to watch the show for ideas for food but I think I rather rub sand in my eyes and let a horse kick me in the head than have to suffer listening to her any second longer.

Solid show, far from the best.
dan_da_man-602881 January 2021
Running on the premise of taking leftover food and completely reinventing them into a new meal is cool.

Personally I think the structure needs work, both rounds are essentially identical with the slight variation of all using the same ingredients in round 1, and all using the same THEMED ingredients in round 2. There's no real structure to judging. In shows like Nailed It, winning round 1 gives an advantage in round 2 where the overall winner is decided. In this they just do both rounds then call a winner. It's particularly flawed when one person does excellent in the first and another in the second, and they just pick one seemingly at random.

I wish there were stricter rules. Part of the fun of giving contestants weird ingredients is seeing them use it. In this they're given up to 4 different cooked dishes to start with, but they choose what they use and it's boring to see some people only using 1 of the ingredients and not really participating in the gimmick of the show, as well as certain weird dishes just get left out by every contestant. I'd rather see LESS ingredients that they MUST use, than a bunch of stuff that they can pick and choose from.

I don't think anyone needs Jackie Tohn-Deaf's singing at the end of each episode, nor intermittantly throughout, and her 'songwriting' might as well be done by a 5 year old. She's a pretty brash personality on a show like this. David So was pretty bland but at least he's willing to have a bit of a laugh at himself. Rosemary Shrager is the saving grace of the whole show.

Super cool concept, but could barely make it through the first episode because of the annoying host.

Fun with day old fries
edwardrstapleton8 January 2021
I had to make a review because everyone is complaining about the host. Disagree. She took all that GLOW energy and added some life to the room.

On most cooking shows there's a drama and sense of competition; this is a lot more lighthearted. Contestants have fun with each other, andI feel like the host brings that out.

Most importantly, they do some creative things with day old food. French fry gnocchi? Bibimbap and a momo made with old moussaka? Killing it.

Great idea, bad hosting
amybourque31 January 2021
The idea of the show is wonderful but the hosts are horrible, boring and cheesy, especially the main host. Just because she looks like a Zoe/Katie wannabe doesn't mean she can sing or act. The guy you can tell is trying but he's cheesy. He reminds me of Channel One TV. The British lady is the only one that I could see as a hostess in an actual real cooking contest. She is professional and knowledgeable.

The Host...Ugh

I want to like this show, I really do. Great concept but the host, my God spare me. Everything about her is phony and annoying. I suffered through two episodes but I just can't bear anymore.

Too Proffesional for Leftovers
the_creator_of_nightmare17 January 2021
I found that this television show takes itself way too seriously, and would benefit if it took the lead of 'Nailed It'. I found it pointless how professional the plating had to be, and the expectations the judges have for restaurant high-quality food. I'm not saying that the food should look bad, but I think it would be better if they aimed for home quality food (the place where leftovers are ate).

Good concept but terribly executed
brianmorganxzx2 January 2021
The show has a good concept but the format is a little weird and David So is just terrible with the jokes in this stating obvious things. I do not know what qualifies him to be a judge on the show someone with a culinary background like Rosemary would be better. Rosemary however did great and I feel like she really carries the show. Jackie Tohn makes the show goofy but I just feel like it's way too goofy especially with David So's terrible joke. I wouldn't recommend this but if they were to build off of Rosemary and added a host and another judge from the food world this would be a good show.

Great idea , but done very badly , and here is why!
dchchaman2 January 2021
1.Initially i thought i may get some usefull ideas from this show and enjoy watching the challenge. But the leftovers were sometimes unrealistic or there were many ingredients used that were not included in left overs. 2.they tried so hard to make it fun and exciting that ruined the show, its too fast , you don't exactly see what they are doing, what you see the most is cringy failed try from hosts to be funny. 3. The most annoying part for me was the back ground music , it was absolutely horrible , its loud and doesn't fit the show. The music should be at the back ground it shouldn't over power everything. 4. The section that gas every day kitchen ingredients is very unreallistic unless you live in a house owned by a master chef, i mean there are les spices in our local market than this shows kitchen . 5.this show is just forced , what i mean is ,with such good ideas they could make great content and they haven't done badly in terms of content but they pushed it do hard that it lost all joy . The challenges are ruined by fake excitement. 6. 35 minuts cooking show shouldn't include 2 challenges . This way the cooking show turns from food and cooking to people talking , 35 minutes its too short. And most of this time is occupied by these people talking so when it comes to food, they just show a very fast view of tge food and tasting . To sum up , this show has a good idea behind it ,but its ruind by the music and hosts.

UGH!

Warning: Spoilers
OMG! What rubbish! The forced, scripted "banter" between Tohn and the other "judges" is awful. Then, the coup de grace is when she starts bellowing out a song at the end of the show. So is this a cooking show or a vanity showcase for her? This show follows the same, exact formula that 99% of others like it follow. The contestants are constantly yammering. There is not one second of silence. Listening to them drone on and on about what they will make, then watch them make it, then listen to them explain it yet again is cringe-inducing. There is not a single producer of these shows that has any concept of how effective silence is. The most absurd point in the first show came when one of them was making pierogis. The producers felt that no one knows what a pierogi is and that it had to be explained to us what they are!

This show is immediately distasteful and impossible for an adult to watch.

Scoring 5 because I love cooking programmes but the host Jackie. Haven't a clue who she is and never will watch anything with her in it again. So annoying, over the top. My god she's ruined the show! Could've been great. I love Rosemary though, I can tolerate her because she's not over the top like the Americans.

The host makes it unbearable to watch
Andreas-Tovefalk4 January 2021
They could have done so much more with the concept, because the idea of saving resources and the environment is something most people is thinking of. If they had chosen a other hosts and judges they could have done a serious and creative show. Instead the host makes it unwatchable , and the crazy tempo makes the show loses useful content. You do not learn a thing from the show.

I love cooking shows! And this is in my top 5!
jandersenball6 May 2021
Yes, yes, here is another cooking competition, however, this is probably the most fun cooking competition out there. Don't get me wrong, I am a competitive person and love watching the competitive shows. However, this show brings a lighter, comedic and enjoyable show to watch. Also, you may actually learn something that you, the average human, would take away from the show. I love it!!

Good concept but with try hard tricks
hazard11113 March 2021
Just a brief: I love food shows. I watch not so I can be inspired but because I want to see what people put their creativity into. And sometimes I playact and think of my own dish. Also my household is mostly Chinese/Filipino food that's stewed in too strong flavors...and only one dish per meal not an array so there's really not much I can take away from the leftover makeovers from this show to use for my own.

Cons:
  • I agree that the host is not the best choice. She's not bad but it's like she's trying too hard to be Nicole Byer (Nailed It!). The humor is so dry and she can't carry it. Her Fridge shtick is a stick (I can feel the awkwardness). And that singing in the end gets so tiring and feels out of place.
  • I like Rosemary but she keeps interrupting the others while they're explaining
  • David is...forgettable? He has some good bits but his jokes are also meh.
  • Competition round 1's lack of tension feels off. Where's the advantage? Nobody even gets booted off. What is it even for?

Pros:
  • I love the dishes which is why I clicked this
  • I love the art shown while they explain their dishes, very charming
  • Concept is great! Potential for greater things and more challenge, was fun thinking on my own on what I would cook with the leftovers
  • Rosemary is the better of the three
  • The overall look of the show is nicely done
  • The little tips are fun tidbits to read
  • Easy to watch

If you could breeze through the judges parts during the cooking process it's a fun food show :)

Good show, bad host.
andradeluiz-4778631 December 2020
The concept of the show is cool, and entertaining (during COVID) but the host just is not the correct fit for the show. David So and Jackie Tohn ruin the show if I'm being honest. Rosemary Shrager, CARRIES this show- so funny and is an expert as a chef. David and Jackie show minimal to no experience in the kitchen, unlike Rosemary, to be judging home cooks. Jackie has no reason to sing at the end of every episode.

I don't agree with "the bad host" comments here! The show is very fun to watch and the cooks are really talented in transforming leftovers!

Great show. Hoping for another season!
lauracarinna16 January 2021
This is such a great idea for a show. Loved seeing what the contestants came up with. The judges combination seemed a bit odd but think it worked. Unfortunately the host was not great. I found her annoying. It took away from the judges a bit that the host was also judging and yet doesn't seem to have any cooking/cheffing experience. Surely as this is a cooking show, the judging should come from experience. That said, really liked the show and hoping for another season!

Not bad if you fas forward through all the judge portions
softerworld-686-7074013 January 2021
Cool concept and I always like watching what people create but they can concentrate on that and I would've thrilled but instead it's judge cringe! They aren't funny. The main host does these grand facial expressions that makes it feel like she's trying on a human suit but not quite sure how it works.Rosemary's tips are pretty great I just wish she didn't add loud "kapows" and cartoon movements. I really wish Netflix would notice what we fast forward through and it would cut down on judge "joking?" around time.

Not bad for what it is but it does not deserve all the hate it's getting.
TristanSilya12 March 2022
What is wrong with people? I've read about 50 reviews and people really don't understand that this is meant to be a light-hearted fun show, not some top-tier Michelin-starred competition.

All the bad reviews are trying to see the show for something that it is not. And constantly hating on the judges. Really? They're really not that bad. They were fine. Saying the host is "unbearable" is extremely exaggerated and shows that people have a deeper issue in their personal lives.

The show has some interesting elements and cool shots. The idea is interesting and the execution sometimes work and sometimes doesn't.

Overall it's an interesting watch if you have some time but it's not a "must" watch.
