The importance and cost of beauty are explored.

This remarkable little film (10 minutes) reminds me how powerful, poignant, and life-changing can be a well done piece, no matter its length. Generally speaking, if the purpose of film is to evoke, educate and/or move an audience such that they are not quite the same (enlarged, at best) as before viewing, Sharon Lewis and her cast/crew are to be congratulated for exemplifying film-making at its very best. More specifically, if beauty is a fundamental and irreducible driving force in our collective, ancient, psycho-spiritual soul-scape (I will argue always that that is so), Sharon Lewis is a prophet.

Chains, in ten minutes, has forged indelible themes, images, and narrative in me, and I imagine it will change most who view it. I am thankful for the experience of it, and to HBO for making its broader viewing possible. May more films seek and achieve the quality and grace and intelligence that is Chains.
