It's always a challenge to figure out when these episodes take place. The aforementioned car gives a clue. This strange episode involves four U. S. Airmen stationed nearby. They are brought into the station drunk and one of them dies while there. At least we think that's when he died. Geordie, who served in Burma, takes their actions very seriously. He also finds the Vicar never did real military service and it really makes him angry. Anyway, this is a bit of a classic whodunnit. We continue the issue of Leonard who is now drinking heavily and wasting his life as he awaits his trial. Not the best but still very entertaining.

Unfortunately I didn't rate this.

Geordie and Will are faced with a dead US Airman, after a trio are picked up near the local airbase.

They promised conflict between Will and Geordie, and we got it, unfortunately it didn't quite work as well as it perhaps should have, the irritation seemed a bit thin.

I hate to say, but this is perhaps the weakest episode of Grantchester that I've come across to date. The story was mildly interesting, the only real shining point is Leonard's story, and the ever brilliant acting of Al Weaver, who is actually superb here, he really does stand out.

Ok, so Grantchester has always been a historical set series, seen through modern, inclusive eyes, let's be honest, the world shown here is make believe, it's not normally an issue, but this particular episode is in woke overdrive, I'm sorry I just find some of the content a little out of the time.

Last week's was great, this sadly was very poor, hopefully we'll be back on track next week, 5/10.

Some American airmen from a nearby base are bought in drunk. They have been racing near a quarry. A regular occurence.

One of them Stanley Obrero dies in the police station, it looks like an overdose.

Only for Geordie and Will to figure that Obrero died somewhere else.

It looks like one of the others killed Obrero on the way to the police station. One of them is the son of the station commander.

It was a bland hackneyed plot. Not helped by the contrived falling out between Geordie and Will over Will managing to evade National Service.

Meanwhile Leonard is getting drunk and being rude to Mrs Chapman. Maybe it would had been better if Mr Chapman gave Leonard some boxing lessons, he will need the skills where he is going.
