Hollywood in San Luis
hof-426 January 2017
The movie is based on a Hollywood premise: main characters meet cute, and an unlikely relation develops. Some aspects of this relation are not very believable especially in a provincial setting (the province is San Luis, northwest of Buenos Aires). The Hollywood approach shows in other places. For one example, Franzie's last day at the school where she teaches is strangely subdued, like in an old American or British movie; Argentines, provincial and cosmopolitan, and especially children usually show their feelings much more openly. There are, however some pluses; Franzie's relations with various family members (mother, sister…) are shown in a more realistic fashion.

Mimí Ardú and Enrique Liporace are charismatic actors and carry their weight, although the latter has to contend with a script that makes fun repeatedly of his appearance. Their work and that of the other actors makes the movie watchable, at least if you can manage a large dose of suspension-of-disbelief.
