A necessary episode that sags just a little.
Analog_Devotee3 November 2021
Fairly slow episode that ramps up the further it goes. The scenes involving the grand jury are pretty much what you'd expect -- straightforward and rather bland with one or two intriguing moments.

More interesting scenes include further developments between Paula Jones and her husband which were very satisfying (and a little heartbreaking) to watch pan out.

I couldn't help but wonder if some of the reactions from the grand jury were exaggerated for the show. Maybe I'm wrong -- I wasn't there, obviously -- but it did come off as such.

The Grand Jury
Prismark107 March 2022
It was interesting to see Hillary Clinton not give a damn when Bill pours his heart to her over his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

Yet she comes out fighting like a tiger when the Republicans want to impeach the President.

You see this duality with other characters. Paula Jones has a nose job as she expects to win her compensation claim and bask on the media limelight.

When Paula's case is thrown out. Her husband shows her that he is just another leech.

The Grand Jury finally sees both Monica and Linda Tripp giving their side of the story. Then being challenged by the jurors.

Linda Tripp comes off worse, the jurors clearly see her as manipulative and someone with a persecution complex.

This was the best episode so far as finally we get to see events that are on public record.

Testify, and Paula gets a nose job!

This episode 9 from season 3 of "FX's" "American Crime Story: "Impeachment" called "The Grand Jury" was one tense and drama filled revealing episode. Here both Linda Tripp and Monica give testimony in front of 23 members of the grand jury. Watching it's interesting as you ask who to believe did Linda lie for fame and put to much pressure on Monica. Monica reveals some juicy nasty dirty things on Bill as her words describe "Bubba" Bill as a naughty dirty boy! Plus the tense moments and scenes of Paula Jones not being supported by her husband after her cosmetic nose job was a fine and over the top filled drama tense scene. Still you ask was Paula just a media and money hungry fame seeker. Overall fine and super next to last episode that reveals more damage to the president as Bill even confronts Hillary with his sorrow and regret. Now looking forward to episode10 and the finale.

You have to ROTATE IT!

Warning: Spoilers
Look, even though other people's relationships are none of my business, I am the first person to be judgmental about adultery/cheating. People get hurt. However, it is absolutely outrageous what Monica was put through. The grilling about sex acts and her relationship were totally out of bounds. If they wanted to confirm the president was lying, yes or no questions were sufficient.

I also can't get over the mean comments made in the media about the appearance of these women. Bill was a prize physically? In my opinion, the only thing that made Linda Trip ugly was her disloyalty and negative personality. The bright spot was Paula finally telling off her loser husband.

I hope this miniseries makes us all look at ourselves. The nation was obsessed with this lowbrow silliness while much more important things were going on and about to happen.

This is Ryan Murphy at his best. I hope he does something half as good for season 4.

These are the kind of moments we have been waiting for. The pacing was a little off, but the big moments with the testimony definitely delivered, creative liberties taken aside.

The series caves- disappointing after excellent first few episodes

Warning: Spoilers
Early reviews focused on the first seven episodes, which is all that were released to media before hand.

The show was rightly praised for not focusing excessively on the obvious prurient interests.

That comes to an end with this episode, which is composed mainly of Monica Lewinsky being interrogated and then detailing the sexual encounters between her and Bill.

The same show that seems to condemn the Starr report basically uses it as a script for the last quarter of the show.

E.g. "Did he touch your breasts over your bra or under your bra?"

"well sometimes he would take my breasts out of my bra and other times he would lift my bra over my breasts".

One or two of these cringe worthy exchanges would've gotten the point across about how Lewinski was treated - we don't need 15 solid minutes of it. We certainly didn't need Monica reporting all the details about the cigar.

The show could've referenced these infamous details in ways other than this cringe fest. (Such as the first several episodes which were very well done in this regard).

The excessive focus sort of calls into question the filmmakers' perspective that such invasive questioning was wrong. If you know wrong, why base half of your episode on it?

The questioning with the grand jury seemed to take a lot of dramatic license to make Monica appear sympathetic. As surrogate viewers they start out questioning her decision to pursue two affairs with married men, but then, of course, are convinced in due time that her motives were pure. The show is definitely bent on convincing us of this.

The first part of the episode with Linda and the waffle maker was very well done. Sarah Poulson is excellent! Another reviewer has commented on how it's emblematic of how this character is condescending and manipulative and yet believes those very actions are praiseworthy. Well done.

We watched the whole series and will finish, but it definitely took a serve downturn here at the end. It almost seems like these last few episodes have had completely different writers. Too bad!
