Road to Nowhere
bobcobb30125 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This content doesn't compare to what you get on premium cable or streaming, but I like that they are at least trying to get a bit grittier with what they deliver. You can't argue against that being a negative.

NCIS turns the corner as Gibbs-arcs fade
hindsonevansmike31 January 2024
Finally, the 19th season begins to finally get into its stride,

Without giving away secrets (having just binge-watched episodes 3,4 and 5 in one three-hour sitting), this is where decisions and cast changes begin to take shape.

Season 19 episodes 4 and 5 will leave the audience more confident, building upon this pivotal episode.

The Lemere character continues to play the bad guy, toying with Gibbs, whilst we begin to see and understand why Gary Cole's character has been introduced as the series approaches the back end of its second decade. There are more flashes of brilliance in the dialogue writing, whilst the action scenes are beginning to come together.

I enjoyed this preparation for the main denouement in Episode Four.

Agents do retire and die
moov_e_c_er14 December 2021
It is true the last 2 seasons are a slow death. Every episode is about Gibbs might leave, die, retire, go off into the sunset and be happy, etc. Very few humor anymore. The normal process should have been Gibbs retires, DiNizzo takes charge... because DiNozzo left it should have went to McGee: he's still there but not in charge. Ziva came and went then came back for repeated "someone is after me" episodes. Now new characters for... Cole as new team lead? Not even Director claiming it's over his head, must bring in someone from the outside, etc? The new female negotiator for... many hostage episodes to come?

Characters used to have purpose, chemistry, positions and earned audience attention. Now it's like rotating door to fill episodes, add new actors because some leave the show and no reason given (Parrette, Weatherly at least went off to do Bull, Wickersham just hangs her hat, Pablo just doesn't come back, Bello didn't really say why, and most other regulars simply died characters). What is actually going on behind the scenes? Hostile work environment? Abuse? Actors want more control or writers do? Directors who drive away actors? Seriously I went back to watch from episode one and season by season it used to develop but last 2 is simply dragging out "don't let Gibbs go" = time to either kill him, retire him, or force to another department. It's time to get back to working cases and yes I know Harmon is Executive Producer and all but the man Gibbs is too old to be an agent now.

It feels like this show is dying a very slow death
j_cary885 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I just feel like this show has run it's course and now it's overstaying it's welcome. I remember when I used to binge watch this show and be super excited when new episodes aired, but not anymore. The pacing is slow, the dialogue seems very forced, and the characters don't really have much chemistry. Gibbs acts like an entirely different person, and not in a good way. He was always quiet, mysterious, but no matter what had everyone in the teams best interests in mind. But now, he's such a loner it's obnoxious. Instead of mysterious, he just comes off as rude and selfish. None of it is very fun to watch. I was hoping it would get better after a mediocre season premiere but instead it's just getting worse. Let's just hope for a better episode next week.

I miss the old NCIS
rickbell195 October 2021
As much as I have enjoyed the show, watched every episode & binge watch reruns, it's time to give NCIS a decent burial. Or get better writers & actors.

WAY Too much time wasted on unrealistic cutesy crap & situations. New characters are mediocre at best.

NCIS LA used to be wonderful too & they ruined it too.

Kind of dull
harrykivi23 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"NCIS" has been one of my favorite series since I was a kid, but the last few seasons have not been very good. The 19th season hasn't yet impressed either. "Road to Nowhere" is not an awful episode, but it could have been much, much better.

Let's start with the good aspects.

. The production values of the episode are great. The direction's solid and the music fits the scenery. The acting's good for the most part. Already like Gary Cole, Mark Harmon's always fantastic.

. Did like the occasional banter between the team members, some jokes hit and there are moments of intensity here and there. Lemere playing mind games with Gibbs was a very compelling idea.

But...

. The execution of that great idea feels kind of dull. Not all of the jokes hit, some of them feel awkward. The mind games part of the story is short-lived, so is Lemere, who could have been a superb villain. The episode needed a lot more dread and intensity. The dialogue feels wooden at times too.

Overall, a bland episode.

4/10 HK.

Writers need to know about technology
koohii25 April 2023
Seriously, the writers of this show need to learn about technology. There's a big deal when Gibbs steals the truck, leaving Parker behind, and no one knows how to track them.

Um, people... ...you do know that all government vehicles (especially ones being used to transport prisoners) are equipped with GPS systems that can't be removed, right? Like, you actually can't disable them? I only mention that because it's kinda important, and completely exposes this scene as "Drama" for the sake of bloating the script.

Also, they make a big deal about the prisoner's file having been scrubbed. By whom? This is never answered. Also, how scrubbed can a navy SEAL's record be? Even deleting his home town from the government's files? That would require someone actually inside the military to do the scrubbing. Why is this never resolved?
