Image Nation Abu Dhabi and Roy Lee and Steven Schneider’s genre label Spooky Pictures have set the third feature under their multi-picture slate deal with sci-fi horror Menace. Directed by Randall Okita (See For Me), the film stars Isabel May (1883) who also serves as an executive producer via her banner Una Vaca Productions.
AGC International will launch sales at the Cannes Market and show off first footage from the movie which recently wrapped production in Canada. Cinetic Media is handling North American rights.
May stars as a research student who has a psychotic breakdown and is remanded to the custody of her aunt and uncle in a small town. When strange things start happening around her and people start disappearing, she isn’t sure what is real or what is her imagination.
May was most recently seen in 1883 for Paramount+ and the Apple TV series, Masters of the Air.

Horror fans have been keeping a very close eye on director Osgood Perkins' next project, and the first social media reactions for the mysterious Longlegs are in.
These reactions are highly positive, and it sounds like the movie is a genuinely disturbing, terrifying experience.
Though Longlegs definitely seems to be keeping its biggest secrets firmly under wraps for the time being (and the teasers are all the better for it), we do know that the plot revolves around a rookie FBI agent (It Follows star Maika Monroe) attempting to track down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families.
Cage's character has largely been kept out of the marketing, aside from one unsettling shot.
Check out the social media posts below, and keep an eye out for a new trailer.
Get ready y’all because Longlegs is the real deal. Absolutely rancid, cursed vibes that had me scared...

MCU has quite a slate of movies coming up, even though Marvel Studios has hit a rough patch with the last couple of projects. There have been talks about releasing fewer projects, as fans are definitely becoming tired of shows and movies of lower quality; still, if one character always managed to drag people to movies, it’s Spider-Man, by far the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter the product you’re looking at.
Several months ago it was confirmed that ‘Spider-Man 4’ is in active development, at first rumors were circulating that Watts would return to direct it, but he ultimately moved on to other projects, just like Drew Goddard and Justin Lin.
Now the latest rumors pointed in the direction of Sam Raimi directing the upcoming MCU installment, and according to MyTimeToShineHello, the studio is also interested in James Wan.

The MCU has an extensive lineup of upcoming movies, despite recent bumps in quality. Discussions about reducing output have emerged due to fan fatigue with lower-quality content. However, Spider-Man remains a consistently lucrative franchise, drawing audiences regardless of format.
Months ago, ‘Spider-Man 4’ was confirmed to be in development. Initially, there were rumors of Watts returning to direct, but he, along with Drew Goddard and Justin Lin, pursued other projects instead.
The latest rumors suggest that Sam Raimi is in talks to direct the next MCU installment. Additionally, according to MyTimeToShineHello, the studio is eyeing James Wan for the project.

As Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios continue their search for a director to take over from Jon Watts on Spider-Man 4, a new rumor is claiming that both studios may be in agreement on a filmmaker to take the helm of the highly-anticipated No Way Home sequel.
According to MyTimeToShineHello, James Wan is one of the directors in the mix to helm the movie. Whether this means he's actually had discussions about boarding the project is not clear.
Wan has previously directed the likes of The Conjuring, Malignant, Insidious, and both Aquaman movies for Warner Bros.

1. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

Writers/Directors Spenser Cohen & Anna Halberg keep it simple with the PG-13 horror movie Tarot. Instead of a cold open to hook audiences on the horror, Tarot launches straight into introducing the group of seven friends partaking in a party weekend at an isolated manor.
It’s there that they dabble with things they shouldn’t, setting in motion a curse that will pick them off one by one, slasher style. With an equal group of monsters to match, Tarot has the makings of a breezy gateway horror movie perfect for sleepovers, though it’s undermined by surface-level characters and storytelling.
The moment the beer runs dry, forcing the friends to seek entertainment elsewhere, birthday girl Elise (Larsen Thompson) insists that Haley (Harriet Slater) puts her tarot knowledge to good use when they find a mysterious deck within the house. Haley warns that it’s extremely bad luck to borrow...

It was probably only a matter of time before Atomic Monster and Blumhouse announced a sequel to M3GAN after the critically-acclaimed sci-fi horror movie performed very well at the box office, and we found out last January that M3GAN 2.0 was officially in development.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Ahsoka star Ivanna Sakhno has joined the cast. No details on her character were provided, but it is said to be a "major role." Sakhno joins the original movie's stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw.
Sakhno played Force-sensitive mercenary Shin Hati in the Disney+ Star Wars series, and is expected to reprise the role for the second season.
M3GAN stars Williams as Gemma, a brilliant roboticist at a toy company who uses artificial intelligence to develop a life-like doll programmed to be a kid’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. After unexpectedly gaining custody of her orphaned niece,...

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Although there might not be a solar eclipse traversing the country this month, that doesn’t mean it’s not an exciting time. After all, May is when we celebrate our mothers and kick off the official start of summer with Memorial Day. The trope of the house, haunting its inhabitants, is a widespread one in horror flicks since Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice to the hyped Insidious and The Conjuring franchises. However, there is a 2020 Netflix movie in which the use of the haunted house theme reaches perfection, which is reflected in its perfect critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Its plot revolves around a couple of immigrants, who run away from Sudan’s civil war and try to start a new life in a new country, turning hostile to them. The UK government assigns them a derelict house, which appears to be inhabited by an evil creature.
The main characters get tormented not only by the poltergeist with its ghostly noises and supernatural things happening in the house, but also with the society, which forces them to be the quiet and the good ones, complicating the aftermath of their tragedy.

Under $5 million; no first time directors (unless there’s a named producer); actually good. These used to be the tenets by which Blumhouse built its name. But oh how things have changed. It’s looking increasingly like the little studio that could is making a land grab for virtually every property in horror-dom.
The latest trailer to drop from Blumhouse is for Speak No Evil, a remake of the 2022 Danish film of the same name which caused a big buzz when it hit Shudder for being so utterly and depressingly grim. Blumhouse snapped it up and cast James McAvoy, star of Blumhouse movies Split and Glass, as the central psycho. James Waktins who made similarly nasty and misanthropic horror Eden Lake has directed and the film is set to release in September. Update: At CinemaCon, Universal confirmed they’ll be releasing Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in Fall 2025.
The original article follows:

Creating a horror prequel is trickier business than a sequel. The rules are far less rigid in sequels, with expanded body count and lore most often being the primary goals. But a horror movie prequel has the tougher needle to thread in ensuring all of its pieces nestle neatly within the previously established framework without contradicting any details.
This week brings the arrival of The Omen prequel, The First Omen, charting the events leading up to Antichrist Damien Thorn’s adoption. It makes for the perfect excuse to revisit horror prequels that successfully earned their spot in their franchises through unique shifts in setting, tone, and style without veering too far off the beaten path.
This week’s streaming picks highlight horror movie prequels that get weird or dial up the horror in intense ways while further fleshing out familiar characters and storylines.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

A Stephen King horror story about a malevolent (sort of) doll almost sounds like something that could've been written specifically for James Wan to turn into a movie. But while the filmmaker behind "Saw," "Insidious," "The Conjuring," and "Malignant" is indeed involved in adapting "The Monkey" -- a short story King wrote for Gallery magazine in 1980 before later including it in his 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew" -- for the screen, he's only lending his services as a producer.
Instead, "The Monkey" is being written and directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, son of "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins and the mind behind such creepily atmospheric and inventively stylized horror pictures as "The Blackcoat's Daughter," "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House," and "Gretel & Hansel". Osgood Perkins is also currently riding high thanks to the buzz around "Longlegs," his upcoming occult serial killer horror-thriller that boasts one of the most intriguing trailers in recent memory.

A colorful Shark Tank pitch that began with the murder of a butler has ended with Blumhouse striking a partnership with American Immersion Theater and the Murder Mystery Company.
Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum appeared on Friday’s episode of the ABC venture capital series, and agreed to purchase a 10 percent stake in the company for $350,000 — noting there was likely a crossover amongst people who go see his horror films, and those who enjoy going to live immersive events. Emily Blunt has had one of the most successful careers in Hollywood. From The Devil Wears Prada, to A Quiet Place, and now Oppenheimer, versatility is one of her strongest suits. She has played serious role, funny roles, complex roles, and even a flying woman. Through her talent, she has earned respect and an Oscar nomination, proving herself to be a force to be reckoned with.
Emily Blunt as Kitty Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer
However, there will always come a movie in an actor’s career, which will tank in ratings and be a massive flop. The experience is unavoidable, and unfortunately Blunt is not exempt from it. In 2010, the actress starred in a movie called The Wolfman. The film was a massive flop and found it very difficult to maintain relevant.

Desperate times at the box office call for some desperate measures, and AMC always has some trick it has up its sleeve to lure new audiences into movie theaters. (Or simply to build revenue — remember the gold mine that wasn’t quite a gold mine? The retail-investment community on Reddit sure does.)

The WGA strike of 2023 has created a fortunate side effect. While writers demanded better pay from studios -- as well as a guarantee that they would not be replaced by clunky automated writing machines -- many films and TV shows halted production. Without writers, the Hollywood system ground slowly to a halt. When the strike was resolved, production began again, but it left a 148-day gap in most studios' production schedules. To fill the gaps, some studios have adopted an ingenious approach: merely re-release some of their biggest hits from years past, allowing audiences to see some of their favorite movies on the big screen again.
In the case of Pixar, films like "Soul," "Luca," and "Turning Red" are being re-released to make up for losses incurred during the pandemic. Those films were all released directly onto Disney+ in the U.S. and only played in select theaters internationally, making...

In the crammed video aisle of supernatural horror films, the introduction of a villainous teddy bear in Imaginary might initially raise more eyebrows than pulse rates. Directed with a keen eye for the absurd by Jeff Wadlow (director of Nofs fave Cry_Wolf) and penned by the trio of Wadlow, Greg Erb, and Jason Oremland, this latest offering from Blumhouse Productions – the powerhouse behind a slew of commodified villains – might seem like it’s scraping the bottom of the horror trope barrel. The film stars DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne, and the delightful Betty Buckley, in a narrative that threads the familiar needle of haunted playthings and the unseen horrors they sneak under our beds.
“..Imaginary manages to swerve unexpectedly from eye-roll-worthy to surprisingly delightful. “
The premise of Imaginary tiptoes around the edge of being all too familiar: Jessica (DeWanda Wise) and her family, including the youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun), move back to her childhood home,...

Few things are more aggravating than when you find yourself in need of a tow truck. Regardless of how excellent the towing agent is, there’s always a hassle waiting around the corner to cost you money, time, and sanity. Pop star and screen actor Demi Lovato is about to learn the brutal ways of the road by joining the cast of Tow, a new drama from director Stephanie Laing.
Tow is Demi Lovato’s first dramatic role in a feature film. Rose Byrne and The Holdovers breakout Dominic Sessa join Lovato for the project, which is based on a true story. Tow stars Byrne as Amanda Ogle, “an unhoused Seattle woman who fought her way out of tow-company hell to reclaim her life and the car that held it all together after receiving a tow bill for $21,634.” (via Deadline)
Stephanie Laing is thrilled to tell Olge’s story. Speaking...

Blumhouse has churned out some critical and commercial hits, yet continues on a losing streak with a sloppily put together horror about an imaginary friend
It’s yet another sub-par day at the Blumhouse factory, production line operating at full, breakneck speed, yet machinery on the perilous verge of total collapse. The house of horror, behind hit franchises like Insidious, Paranormal Activity and The Purge, has become something of a franchise in itself, a branded string of low-budget films making a high profit, yet quality control has forever been an issue and in the last year or so, it’s barely existed.
On the first cursed weekend of January 2023, usually home to the most unintentionally horrifying horror films, M3gan upended critical expectations and scored reviews as impressive as its box office total. But normality soon resumed with a limp Insidious sequel, a junky time travel slasher, a loathed Exorcist reboot,...

20 years ago, Saw made an indelible impact on the horror genre. Not only did it usher in the so-called “torture porn” subgenre that would become synonymous with the aughts, but it also launched the career of filmmaker James Wan, who has firmly cemented his place among the masters of horror with follow-ups like The Conjuring and Insidious.
In the two decades since, the lucrative franchise has spawned nine sequels — 2005’s Saw II, 2006’s Saw III, 2007’s Saw IV, 2008’s Saw V, 2009’s Saw VI, 2010’s Saw: The Final Chapter, 2017’s Jigsaw, 2021’s Spiral: From the Book of Saw, and 2023’s Saw X — with a worldwide box office total of over $1 billion.
Despite being often maligned by detractors for its mindless sadism, fans are just as much invested in the series’ soap opera-esque melodrama as the innovative death traps. Formulaic though the general plots may be, the non-linear storyline is deceptively...
