Ray, Ray, Only Ray
daspalash-0305318 May 2022
The first 5 mins I thought I was watching a documentary film on Satyajit Ray. Jeetu Kamal exceeded our expectations. Not only Jeetu, after so many years they did found the look alikes of all characters.

Splendidly done. Was long due! Must watch
dkbanike14 May 2022
Best tribute to the legend of all legends in Indian Cinema - Satyajit Ray. Congratulations Anik Dutta & Team. Splendid work. Jitu Kamal what an acting, special mention to that person who did the voice over for him. Sandip Ray, with all due respect & utmost humility have to say this, sir you should have made a film on this long back. Also kind request make Satyajit Ray open to all good directors to explore further, instead of clinging to his work as ancestral property ! Manikbabu is for all. #Salute #Respect Maharaja of Indian Cinema, Ray once again.

A well documented tale of filmmaking
suprabhattacharya15 May 2022
The nagging fact that Bengali films are now aiming for surface level narrative is quite sad. Anik Dutta has done that too,his narrative is more event-based rather than character driven which would have worked more I guess. If incorporated in a right way,Ray and his passion for film-making might have been the driving force of the film. It would have resonated more to the audience.

Ray was an enigmatic personality, but Anik Dutta didn't explore that in his film. He made this film about the story of making "Pather Panchali" by Satyajit Ray,that though isn't a bad narrative choice but still it nags me.

A thoroughly sliced tale of the making of the first Ray film is pretty satisfying to look at. The incredible journey of some amateur but passionate individuals struggling to make a film is the prime focus of it. The director has shown expertise in documenting and dramatizing the journey quiet well.

As the performances go,Jeetu Kamal was physically satisfying as Satyajit Ray. He adapts Rays mannerisms, his appealing personality effortlessly, kudos to Somnath Kundu and entire make-up team for making this possible,to match up the deep vocal tone of Satyajit Ray ,Chandrasis Roy has dubbed his voice for the purpose which is quite impactful.

Saayoni Ghosh as Bijaya Ray fits well to the role,an everlasting presence throughout Ray's career Bijaya ray's role has treated with vigilance. The overall casting has been quite impressive in the film.

Supratim Bhol has done stupendous work with his camera in the film. The visual flamboyance the film presents is beautiful to look at,be it the recreation of the iconic train scene or shooting the film in a monochromatic silvery tone ,he has paid a fitting tribute to not only Satyajit Ray but also Subrata Mitra ,the chief cinematographer of the film who before that has never handled a movie camera ever in his life. Debojyoti Mishra's soothing music has dignified the watching experience of the film to a great extent .

There is an pure ,unfiltered urge in the film which is impossible to ignore but the passion ,desperation Ray had for making film is missing here. Pather Panchali has paved the way for a certain wave in Bengali intellectual cinema to begin it's journey, although "Aparajito" works well as a documented tale of making a film,it couldn't be a landmark to inspire such a wave which Pather Panchali started.

A Masterpiece
namrataroy-5496917 May 2022
It would take ages and decades to realize how remarkably talented Mr. Ray was! Satyajit Ray isn't just a name but an emotion to millions of Bengali_s as well as Indians. I am sure, people would have failed to accept just any other actor playing this character. I would say Jeetu kamal is the best invention of the century. The movie, the direction, how the story was arranged, realistic aspect- everything was beyond expectation. It is hard to express the experience in words. Good job team.

Tribute to the Legend and his masterpiece
spandanroot15 May 2022
The movie started with a scene where Satyajit Ray's wife and mother were tuning on the radio to listen to an interview with Ray on All India Radio. Satyajit Ray just completed the movie Pather Panchali a few months back and the movie was being applauded by the people of various countries the movie was awarded prestigious awards in the various film festivals. In the conversation between the interviewer and him, then he told us the story of his love for film and his journey of overcoming various barriers to create the masterpiece Pather Panchali. Jitu Kamal's transformation into Satyajit Ray's character, his voice, and his act are commendable. Big Congratulations and Thank You to director Anik Dutta for bringing this for us.

The Undefeated 🙏💯
Sannith724 May 2022
Everything I Wanted & More.

I have been absolutely fizzing to see 'Aparajito The Undefeated ' from the day it was announced, Biopics touch people in a way few other stories do. In the case of Aparajito the film detailing the life of Mr. Satyajit Ray, The film does a fine job portraying the story behind the making of Mr. Ray's iconic film 'Pather Panchali'.

The screenplay is pasted by Jeetu, and the film is directed sensitively by Anik Datta.

A Great Start, Jeetu Nails It.

A Story To Admire.

Some people might not agree with me but Aparajito is a beautiful movie all around, the shots are mesmerizing, and the cast is on point.

The story is inspiring and feels real, the film was masterfully directed.

We should never forget stories of truth such as this.

Critically watched and Spiritualized
koustavtghosh17 May 2022
The point is this movie is of blood and bones of Jeetu Kamal..

He injected between teeth to match Ray's Dental profile to be the most accurate actor in a biopic ever.

Anik Dutta did his masterpiece in "his" way and made it an elixir for the next generations.

All of them who will talk about what was in it. I must say its pure gold and me being a Ray fan unapprove of his sons movies but this one.. i am like God you were made to be immortalized.. do you approve ?

He said yes !

Brilliant take on life of legendary Mr.Satyajit Ray
suvacoolfire17 May 2022
Seldom you come across films that consider this level of detailing .The film is a treat to all movie lovers and have some context on Mr. Satyajit Ray's life and career.

Superb acting, cinematography, make up , dialogue delivery and detailing makes this movie stand out from the rest of biographies.

The story itself is also very insightful about how the film industry evolved in the world map through the vision of the legend.

A must watch.

A tribute to 'The Maestro'
soham-2135819 May 2022
The movie is quite enjoyable due to nostalgia elements .The film deals with how did Satyajit Ray make a Cult classic 'Pather Panchali' ? We already knew all the stories ,trivia on 'Pather Panchali' film. In this movie ,director recreates some of the iconic scenes .The scenes were brilliantly shot by the cinematographer .

The first half of the film was slow .The conversation between the characters are unconvincing . The narration was not good . Editing could have been better .

In the acting department Jeetu Kamal as Aparajito Ray stood tall and rest of the cast doing their job quite well. The name alternation of famous movies ,places and characters were cringeworthy .

Overall a decent watch .

A boring film about the making of a masterpiece film.
It is a well researched film, no doubt about that, but the lack of any conflict just makes it purely banal and boring. The film mainly consists of technical terms used in film making and a lot of film talk, which I guess is supposed to impress the masses, but in truth it does nothing to make the story go forward. And the thing with altered names is just another nail in the coffin. This film is about a making of a masterpiece, yet it alters the original film's name, "Pather Panchali" becomes "Pather Podaboli". Yet another masterpiece "The Bicycle Thieves" becomes "The Bicycle Riders". Yet the Hollywood masterpieces that are mentioned, "Citizen Kane" and "Sunset Boulevard", have their names unaltered. It just feels weird. And even in the end, a certain "Martin Scottish" calls our protagonist to tell him how the film is so good. Gee I wonder whose name got altered there! There are problems that the main protagonist encounters, but these are so quickly solved that by the end of the movie, it feels like you're reading facts from a Wikipedia page. And to compensate for all the dull storytelling, they use fancy Bengali words in their dialogues to make it sound more smart, but all it does is put on a pathetic show to impress the audience.

After a long time, I am satisfied to go to the hall and watch a movie.
kausikjio24 May 2022
Today isaw #Aparajito . The story of becoming an . Producer from 'Satyajit Ray' to director 'Satyajit Ray' .. The story of the transformation of Bengali cinema from 'book' to 'picture'. Great picture. Casting, make-up, acting, background, screenplay, directing, After a long time, I am satisfied to go to the hall and watch a movie.

Jeetu Kamal, impeccable ... awesome! It doesn't just happen in imitation and make-up, if Ray doesn't mix in life. Our expectations have multiplied. Every artist's performance is appropriate ... from the smallest manik to Sarvamangala ... Bimala .. 'Pather Padabali' team ... Nanibala ... everyone is impeccable.

I do not have the audacity to talk about direction. The struggle behind the making of 'Pather Panchali', the remake of some of its scenes, the story of an educated-progressive couple with the subtlety in which director Anik Dutt has woven can only amaze and fascinate! At least that's what my little brain says.

Music of Debajyoti mishra.. Who else could use such a moderate atmosphere! A lot of fascination! What I didn't like was the renaming of everything ... especially the author's name Bibhutibhushan Mukherjee and the unplanned break.

"A film about changing films"
das-diganta-1421 May 2022
"A film about changing films"- describes the film perfectly, it shows how an ordinary filmophile can make a film different from all the conventions and change the vision towards film forever. The film is not only about how Ray made a masterpiece but also about himself.

The film deals intelegently with all the topics with many subtle comedic dialogues which is not forced upon. It is not an event by event documentary but a storyline that portrays the journey very swiftly and beautifully. It will give you a nostalgic feel with added back stories. Many untold story is shown, some of which is very shocking and interesting. Cinematography is as usual very lively, the type we see in Anik Dutta. Casting is the main USP of this film, almost every character fits perfectly, the makover department has done a very good job. Music is also very subtle yet powerful and well placed in the scenes.

Now coming to acting, Jeetu is just outstanding and mind-blowing, his resemblances is just spot on, but that is not all, his acting, expressions, body language and posture us just uncanny. The person who did the voice reconstruction for the role is something that will be recorded in history. Coming to negative points, there are some side scenes mainly the public scenes are a little bit loose, although it is common in most of Bengali movies.

Anyway this movie is worth watching in every way.

Unparalleled
sanjanagangopadhyay19 May 2022
As the film begins, the audience understand that they are about to undertake a journey with the man himself, and would witness the tears, the toil, the sweat and the sheer dedication of the mastery. The more a piece of art is explored, the more mysterious it becomes. Cinema, as an art form has so much to offer to the world if it is channelised in the right direction. Just by watching the films of Ray, one would gain enough knowledge about the world scenario. But, in order to become an icon, an institution, Ray had to struggle, like every other common man. That struggle is the subject of the film directied by Aneek Dutta.

Making a film of this stature, especially when the world is celebrating hundred years of Ray, needs a lot of courage and determination. Along with a beautiful cast and a very able technical support, the director has offered us a movie that is going to stay with us forever. There could have never been a better tribute to the master than this one.

Aparajito A must watch Masterclass in modern times
rajuagn19 May 2022
Aparajito,an unique biopic which creates nostalgic value and brilliance of its leading man Jeetu Kamal's performance make it a must-watch movie.

This is perfect tribute to one the greatest filmmakers of all time Satyajit Ray.

Director Anik Dutt's detailed work and brilliant direction made Aparajito a masterpiece. When someone will talk about centenary of Ray,people will refer this masterpiece even after 50 years. Mr. Dutt set an bar of 9.5 for INDIAN and Global filmmakers, which is close to "Perfect 10" of Nadia Comaneci.

Congratulations to each and every cast and crew of Aparajito.

Satyajit Ray and the Pather Panchali relieves!
subhodeb27 May 2022
The movie was instrumental in every sense of the mature perspective of Indian Cinema. The portrayal of the Iconic Character has been tremendously done by the actor Jeetu Kamal. It has been a great movie which comes in decades to capture the real art film. The movie depicts the actual form of Indian Cinema. This movie indeed provided life to this megalomaniac Indian film industry!

Autobiography of a movie
shriyaniit16 May 2022
I did not know that a movie can be made based on an autobiography of another movie. Yes the execution is great, the storytelling power, direction everything is just great.

I watched it as a fictional piece only so I'm not going to judge it on facts.

Whether I will again watch it ? Umm yes may be. This time I will watch it to research; there's a lot of content which takes my attention.

The thing which drew my attention most is probably the speculation of " how can one enrich him/ herself further ".

Good but ain't a masterpiece
adonisatyaki27 September 2022
This film is certainly a work of huge toil to recapture the life & career of Satyajit ray. It is a good attempt representing the then forty's Calcutta. For portraying the contemporary period the movie is also made in shades of grey. But it somewhere lacks when it comes to the first shoot of pather panchali. Though it's completely unjust to this film to that of the legend Ray's. The actors also gave their level best in uplifting the movie with the utmost from lead actor jeetu. The appearance, mannerism & behaviour of ray has been done almost flawlessly.

Hence, I can conclude the film being really good, but sorry it's not a masterpiece.

The film is what pather panchali was never meant to be
archiepupugoswami18 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Pros: 1)Acting of jeetu kamal as mr satyajit ray. We've got a good actor for our bengal industry if he is used properly in future.

Cons: 1) The film talks about how pather panchali had brought neorealism in indian movie. But after seeing this film which is by the way about making pather panchali is somewhat overly dramatic in some scenes. For one example the scene where wife of mr bibhutibhusan bandopadhyay is talking about the poster of the film to her niece. That scene was quite cringy to watch and screams melodrama while watching . There are many more such scenes in the whole movie.

2) Dialogue throwing: throughout the film it seemed people are just reading out their dialogues. In some scenes specially the conversation between mrs. Ray and Mr. Ray, their is no reaction time in their conversation where each one process what the other person is saying.

3)Poor recreation of some scenes : I would like to talk about one special scene here. The scene where the crew is wating for rain to shoot the sequence of durga and apu celebrating the rain. In the original movie, this scene was shot during real rain for which mr. Ray waited for several days for the rain to happen. In this movie this thing about waiting for the rain is shown ina very intense way and suddenly when the rain came it is clear that the scene of the dust storm is shot using fans. If you observe carefully you willl find dust and dry leaves on the ground are blowing in the heavy wind but the leaves of the tree in the background are fixed as a still photo. It is such an irony that the actual flavour of this story about shooting this specific scene is blown away by such an irresponsible direction.

4) bad acting by the charecter who played durga/uma: In the actual film durga was so expressive. She didi not have to say a word totell the audiance what is going on insideher head and her emotions. In this film in the recreation scenes acting by the charecter uma is nowhere near the actual film.

In the end i would conclude that this film is quite an average film but is overhyped as bengalis are nostalgic about pather panchali and not being a fan of satyajit ray is a social dogma in bengal ( though I am a fan of his early directorials but still again that is not a reason to criticize this film).
