Scream Girls (aka Sin Hikiko-san) (2008) (Japanese Horror)
Dumb title . . . good movie. After a murder occurs in a nearby field, a schoolgirl becomes obsessed with the Japanese legend of Hikiko-san. This is a low-budget psychological horror with some similarities to "Carved 2: The Scissors Massacre" from the same year. While not quite as impressive as that film, this one is also successful at establishing dramatic weight (especially when the vicious bullying tactics arrive) and a convincing character transition for the protagonist. There's a slight ghostly presence, but it only lingers as a backdrop to the psychological horror of the protagonist. Some scares occur during the daytime in open fields, which is quite unique. Good scoring and sound effects. Only 60 minutes in length.
