A Mild Psychological Horror.
meddlecore26 November 2023
Los Habitantes (The Inhabitants) is a Mexican psychological horror film, written and directed by Mexican-American director Homero Bueno, from Texas.

In it, we find ourselves watching the mental state, of a man named Emiliano, spiral out of control, after returning to his hometown of Monterrey.

Where he is haunted by a specter, he believes is tied to his new home.

Though...after some investigation, it turns out his "new" home is, in fact, tied to his past.

A past whose memories he has repressed.

After being in an accident a number of years before.

So, it's almost as if the present is forcing him to face a reckoning with this, since forgotten, past.

Ultimately leading to the unexpected finale of the film.

The whole thing is a bit of a slow burner.

Starts to get interesting in the middle.

And leaves you with mixed feelings about what happens in the end.

Not that it's a completely unrewarding experience, or anything.

Just...that it's heavily dramatic, without much action in it at all.

With an ending that's somewhat convoluted...and a little bit drawn out.

I feel like it would have been better if it had just ended after the climax, with a "history is doomed to repeat itself" angle...instead of being drawn out like it was.

But it's not my film...so...alas...

If you don't like slow burners...this is definitely not the film for you.

But it's a decent first feature effort from a new up and coming director.

Thus, it's worth a watch.

But you need to have the wherewithal to stick with it, and let it play out.

So, it's probably not for everyone.

3.5 out of 10.

Boring

A family moves to a new house, only for the father to be haunted by some strange presences. I gave a chance to this film because of the other reviews that were very positive, sadly the film was extremely generic with very bad effects. It doesnt have a horror or suspense atmospher, on the contrary, you will find yourself not intrigued at all.

It has some nice twist at the end but the problem is that you need to spend 90 mins of nothing to get there.

The soundtrack is good and the acting is okay. I would only recommend this film just for the ending, if you feel curious. Still very dissapointing.

Great movie

Good movie I had a good time to watch it i think it has injection of terror and open question of the development of the history, before to watch it i didn't have any expectations about it but it contains good scenes of the cameras and actor performance, this movie turns the history in the middle and you dont expect the end I recommend for all the viewers. I thing the current of the movie is low in comparison to the quality of the movie there are a lot of american or european trash movies with higher qualification, just try it and try ti watch a different kind of movie and unexpected ending and take ur own opinion.

Great surprise!

From the beginning, the apparent calm and meaningless change awakens interest in how this easy lives will switch to something sordid.

Very good use of cameras (great views of Monterrey, Nuevo León), music, art; and above all, an excellent script. A small cast of very skilled actors playing great parts of an intelligent, original plot, full of twists, that keeps the viewer trying to guess a logical ending. The leading character gives a great performance. Everything is so elegant and well chosen that it's hard to find something to improve.

Maybe make-up and wardrobe could have been better, but that's just personal taste.
