"I've ruined a pair of stockings getting out of a window"
hwg1957-102-2657044 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A late night chemist's shop is the setting for several strands of plot coming together involving narcotics, robbery and murder. The film moves along too fast and it all becomes confusing. It needed more clarity as characters are thrust into the story without sufficient explanation. There were two women I thought were the same person until one got murdered! It has a good cast but some like second billed William Sylvester are hardly in it. The movie had potential but didn't fulfil it. Not one of the better films in the Edgar Wallace series from Anglo-Amalgamated.

It does have a good closing scene on location in Piccadilly Circus underground station which will bring a smile of nostalgia to older Londoners.

A fast paced British noir
searchanddestroy-13 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
As usual, I am not disappointed by this Edgard Wallace Mystery show. A very good product from UK. Probably better than most US and also British usual B movies. But it is a short feature, and this explains that. See for instance Warner films from the 40's...

A story where blackmail and gangsters fill the 56 minutes length. A few talks, just enough for the audience to understand the meaning of all the tale. Anton Diffring is exquisite as a former nazi doctor impersonating a physician. A man blackmailed by his own mistress, because he doesn't want to talk about her to his wife. And I like the subplot, with a bunch of hoods asking for a doctor to heal one of them wounded after a heist where a watchman was killed. And, as usual, there is an exciting climax, action packed one for this kind of production.

Another poor entry!

These "Edgar Wallace Mysteries" films have potential to be quite good B movies. Unfortunately, confusing and uninvolving plots were a constant problem. The above film is no exception. A lot of scenes don't make any sense. They aren't blended into the story and any kind of intended mystery, isn't in evidence. Some good actors are completely wasted.

Incident at midnight
coltras3512 March 2023
Old Dr. Schroeder (Martin Miller), who has been struck off, attends a late night chemist every night for a prescription, and to observe Dr. Leichner (Anton Diffring), an ex-Nazi war criminal who has taken a new identity. Leichner, we discover, has a blonde wife (Sylva Langova), and a blonde mistress (Jacqueline Jones), who is blackmailing him. He is also involved in a drug scam involving two lockers and two keys, and aims to become a millionaire selling drugs. Meanwhile, a wounded bank robber has been taken to the dispensary for treatment, and to rendezvous with his gang leader. Old Dr. Schroeder finds himself attending to the robber's injuries.

Slightly unusual tale with some fine performances, and a mildly intriguing story, however it lacks excitement and is quite dull, slow moving with characters appearing with no explanation. A weak entry on the whole.
