Amazon Studios have always done things a little differently. Firstly, their door is always open to creators wishing to submit material. Secondly, when they produce that material, it’s for the audience to decide if it is of sufficient quality to warrant further investment. They make a pilot available, people watch it, and its fate is determined by user comments and ratings. Among the latest of these offerings is Red Oaks – a comedy written by Joe Gangemi (Wind Chill) and Gregory Jacobs (Criminal), directed by David Gordon Green (Prince Avalanche) and executive produced by Steven Soderbergh. To say it is worth checking out is an understatement.
Starring Craig Roberts (22 Jump Street), Paul Reiser (Mad About You), Richard Kind (Obvious Child) and Jennifer Grey (The Bling Ring), the show is set in the 1980s, and sees a college student take a summer job as an assistant tennis pro at a country club.

There are about a zillion different reasons to go see a movie, all of which run the length of a spectrum as diverse as “explosions are in it” to “I want to change my life, and watching Jerry McGuire is the way to do that.” Whatever the reason, everybody has something unique to gain from sitting down for a couple of hours and investing some time in a good ol’ screen yarn.
Saying that, when you find your roommate is asking you if want to go see The Bling Ring this weekend, you know something’s probably up. Here are 8 upcoming movies that we all want to see. This time, though, we’ve all got ulterior motives, ’cause we’re horrible, terrible people, and $10 is just about cheap enough to justify our hidden agendas…

The Bling Ring really is a thing of the past Courtney Leigh Ames, the last of the defendants charged in the infamous string of celebrity burglaries, pleaded no contest Friday to a felony charge, the Los Angeles D.A.'s office announced. The 22-year-old admitted to receiving a leather jacket that was stolen from Paris Hilton's home in 2009. She will return Feb. 1, 2013, for sentencing and is expected to receive three years formal probation and 60 days of community service, said Deputy D.A. Christine Kee in a statement. In exchange for her plea, one felony count of each conspiracy to commit burglary, residential burglary and receiving stolen property will be dismissed when she's...

Shame (20th Century Fox) Director Steve McQueen’s harrowing portrait of a Manhattan sex addict (Michael Fassbender, in the year’s most riveting performance) whose psyche goes into overload when his equally-troubled sister (Carey Mulligan) visits unexpectedly. Exquisitely-made on every level, save for the screenplay, which makes its point after about thirty minutes. While it tries hard to be a modern-day Last Tango in Paris, this fatal flaw makes it fall somewhat short. The much- ballyhooed sex scenes and frontal nudity are the least-interesting things about the film, incidentally, which is still a must-see for discriminating adults who seek out challenging material. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS-hd 5.1 surround.
Being John Malkovich (Criterion) Spike Jonze’s madcap film of Charlie Kaufman’s script, regarding a socially-disenfranchised puppeteer (John Cusack) who finds a portal into the mind of actor...

Ah Lifetime, the network for women that creates features about women being abused, beaten, murdered, cheated on, or doing their best in a single parent situation. You have to start wondering if someone at Lifetime fails to understand exactly how one empowers women. Is the strategy to produce a number of true cautionary tales that will hopefully help women recognize the bad situations they're in? I have to believe there's an easier way to do that than two films, starring Anne Heche or Jennifer Grey, where a girl receives a beating broadcast online or a bunch of teens robbing celebrities much to a single mother's chagrin. Seriously Lifetime, what's going on over there?
Whatever the case may be, we're giving away the Lifetime movies Girl Fight and The Bling Ring on DVD, and if you want to find out how to win them just keep reading.

We’ve been following the development of the brand new CW pilot, The Carrie Diaries. You already know it is a prequel series to Sex and the City, but do you know who just run the male lead role? We do, and lucky for you, we’re in a sharing mood.
The young actor’s name is Austin Butler and you may have spied the blond on Lifetime’s The Bling Ring. According to Deadline the young Carrie Bradshaw will be acted by AnnaSophia Robb of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bridge to Terabithia, The Reaping and Soul Surfer.
He may not be Mr. Big, but Austin Butler will enter Carrie’s 80′s era High School kind of the same way Edward Cullen enters the cafeteria at Forks High. He’s going to draw attention. His character’s name is Sebastian Kydd. That doesn’t sound made up at all,...

Despite the Harry Potter star Emma Watson recommitting to her academic career, she has still found some time to fit film projects in to her busy schedule. Watson, who has just finished The Perks of Being a Wallflower as well as having a small role in My Week With Marilyn will be adding another film to her ever growing list.
The British actress who was tapped for the lead role in Your Voice In My Head has now been cast in Sofia Coppola’s Bling Ring. Coppola will write and direct the flick as well as producing alongside Youree Henley and her brother Roman Coppola. Bling Ring is about a group of teenage girls residing in Hollywood who were arrested in 2009 for a string of break-ins at the homes of stars including Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom and Paris Hilton. The group of girls who hail from affluent families, became famous...

After winning an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and being nominated for Best Picture and Best Director for Lost in Translation, a lot of people might say that Sofia Coppola's career has gone downhill since then. Critics were pretty divided over her last two films, Marie Antoinette and Somewhere, and neither of them were particularly big hits commercially either. Now for her next project, she is teaming up with Hermione Granger herself, Harry Potter star Emma Watson, for a movie called The Bling Ring. While this could be seen as a way to make the movie more bankable, it's more likely just a case of Coppola wanting to work with another up and coming female in Hollywood. The movie will be based on a series of real-life celebrity thefts committed by a group of young socialites also known as the "Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch." The Bling Ring were a...

If I was to grade this casting decision I would have to give it an A. It's hard to imagine a better director for Emma Watson to team-up with as she begins her post-Harry Potter career than Sofia Coppola. Coppola was directed the likes of Kirsten Dunst (The Virgin Suicides), Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation) and recently Elle Fanning (Somewhere) to excellent performances in films that warrant more than one sitting is not several and Watson will be the latest as Variety reports she's been cast in the lead role of Coppola's The Bling Ring. The film will be shot on location in Los Angeles and will tell the true story of the titular group who are also known as the "Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch," "The Burglar Bunch" or the "Hollywood Hills Burglars". Already Michael Lembeck (Tooth Fairy, The Santa Clause 3) directed a made-for-tv movie with the same name that...

Emma Watson has signed on for a new project in the form of Sofia Coppola's next. Variety reports that the Harry Potter actress will headline The Bling Ring , based on the true story of celebrity buglaries committed by a group of teens at the end of the last decade. Coppola will both write and direct the project with Watson starring as one of the thieves. In real life, the crimes were committed by a group of six, who, over the course of about a year, stole roughly $3 million from Hollywood celebrities like Paris Hilton, Megan Fox and Lindsay Lohan. The teens were caught in 2009 and, last year, the story was the subject of a Lifetime telefilm (also titled The Bling Ring ), starring Jennifer Grey. Though names and specific details were changed for the Lifetime version, there's...

Get excited, but not too excited: TMZ reports that Sofia Coppola is developing a movie based on the "Bling Ring" -- those crazy Californian kids who utilized Twitter and other forms of internet research back in 2009 to swipe about $3 million of stolen swag from the homes of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson and Lindsay Lohan.
Coppola, a regular fixture at fashion shows and close friends with designer Marc Jacobs, is no stranger to the material luxury that drove the gang of half-dozen of mostly privileged teens to steal.
TMZ reports that the movie, which is without a start date and script, is to be developed with father Francis Ford's Zoetrope studio and has even pulled in some of delinquents' surrounding family members to work as "consultants."
A Lifetime movie by the title of "The Bling Ring" based on the group and starring Jennifer Grey came out earlier this year,...

Rachel Lee, the alleged second-in-command of the burglary cohort known as "The Bling Ring", struck a deal with prosecutors Friday and is expected to be sentenced to four years in prison, according to reports. But a little free publicity can never hurt - Lee's court appearance coincides nicely with a Lifetime movie about the gang. The Bling Ring which stars rumored Vanessa Hudgens beau Austin Butler as one of the teens, and Jennifer Grey as mother of one of the criminals, premiered Monday night. None of the real-life burglars, who stole millions of dollars' worth of goods in 2008 and 2009 from the homes of several celebrities,...
