From the moment Torres arrives at the rest stop and is recognized by a witness to the triple homicide, he and his entire team should have been on high alert, knowing Diaz (arms dealer Torres helped put in prison) is targeting him/them. They are far from being on high alert, however. McGee and Torres are driving to confront Renny, one of Diaz's henchmen, who once tried to kill Torres. Even though they are wearing bulletproof vests in the car, they are both distracted while discussing Torres' undercover experience, specifically betraying the arms dealer's beautiful cousin, who he had been dating. All of sudden, there is a car right next to theirs (on a two lane road!) and the passenger side window explodes as shots ring out. McGee and Torres were clueless. How can this be? No one is hit, not even in the vest?! It is not realistic! I am convinced CBS does not have believability overwatch in the writers room. They don't care. This scene and others could have been just as dramatic if McGee had spotted a car approaching on their right (on a two lane road!). I may finally quit watching this show.
Anyway, after Maria is nowhere to be found, Parker demands Torres go to a hotel safehouse but somehow Maria finds HIM there. She is the woman Torres was dating while undercover but he lied to her to get her to testify against Diaz, her cousin. The blank expression on Torres' face is bizarre. Who is to say that Maria doesn't want revenge of her own, plus, she has blood on her clothing. Absolutely no reaction from Torres, who stands there with the hotel room door wide open. Maria doesn't fully explain how she got to Torres' door so unless the U. S. Marshals only have access to one room at this hotel it doesn't make sense. Could the initial scene between Torres and Maria be any more awkward? It's no surprise that Maria wants nothing to do with her WITSEC life so does that allow for Torres to have a love interest? Maybe, but only after A LOT more counseling.
Selling out for more conflict and drama will kill a crime drama. There is plenty of potential when you have a bad guy hell-bent on revenge but believability has to be #1. Even though Mark Harmon is done as an actor on this show, he remains in the opening credits, voices the final message, and is an Executive Producer. However, maybe he has no creative control. The Supervising Producers may be the creative masterminds. Finally, I don't understand why Agent Knight essentially rode the bench for this episode. She has no problem being the first one through the door in dangerous situations. I still believe she came from the same mold as Gibbs more than any other agent ever. Yes, even Ziva, who never told Gibbs the real reason she joined NCIS in the first place. Gibbs figured it out. I have to prepare myself after Sasha Alexander's shocking exit after the first two seasons on this show. It is eerily similar to Mandy Patinkin's exit on "Criminal Minds" after the first two seasons. Don't get me started on Julian McMahon's mid-season departure on "FBI: Most Wanted." Just because all of my signs are pointing toward Katrina Law being the future of NCIS, it doesn't mean her character won't get killed off in the near future. If that happens, I will quit watching this show.
