- Overall, this film does not show much that could upset a viewer, despite its heavy topics and basis on a novel that is considerably more graphic.
- A group of men attempt to trick a frightened blind woman into stepping into a burning furnace.
- A man is taken by the police to a prison without explanation. Another character goes after them and later on is misinformed that the man is dead.
- It is revealed that a woman poisoned herself.
- A man drowns himself in the river. This scene could be upsetting.
- A woman asks a man to join her after she dies. He commits suicide shortly after while others watch.
- The laughing faces of the peers during the House of Lords scene can be frightening.
