It’s a powerful plea against the death penalty, but also an Oscar bid for a fiery actress. And don’t forget the cool jazz music score. On top of this Robert Wise adds a formerly- taboo sequence, a realistic depiction of an execution in the gas chamber. Of such things were gritty, hard-hitting reputations made.

Twin boys born in Massachusetts will forever need a few minutes to explain who is older thanks to Daylight Savings Time.
On November 6, Samuel Peterson was born weighing 5 pounds, 13 ounces at 1:39 a.m. The birth of his twin brother, Ronan (who weighed 5 pounds, 14 ounces), came 31 minutes later – just minutes after the clocks were rolled back one hour.
So, despite the fact that Ronan was born 31 minutes after Samuel, his time of birth was recorded as 1:10 a.m. rather than 2:10 a.m. – making Ronan the “older” twin.

As you may have heard, there’s a fairly important election taking place in two days. Among the many, many people urging Americans to vote is John Oliver, whose latest “How Is This Still a Thing” segment on “Last Week Tonight” is devoted to a question many have wondered about for a long time: Why do we vote on Tuesday?
Read More: John Oliver Offers Donald Trump His Emmy If He Accepts Election Results
The actual answer, which dates back to 1845, is dispiritingly antiquated: Weekends were unacceptable due to the Sabbath, and Monday was used as a travel day so voters could trek the sometimes long distances between their homestead and their polling station. As with Daylight Savings Time, we’re being inconvenienced in the 21st century because of something that made sense in the 19th century.

"How Is This Still a Thing?," a reoccurring segment on Last Week Tonight, often finds host John Oliver questioning antiquated concepts like Daylight Savings Time, Ayn Rand and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. With the HBO series on a one-week hiatus for Memorial Day Weekend, Oliver flipped that question around – "How Is This Not a Thing?" – in a web exclusive.
For instance, Oliver recommends the existence of things – or "thingsistence" as the host says – like a "universal safe word for getting out of conversations that have run its course," "Ambien,...

With much of the Northern Hemisphere welcoming Daylight Savings – and longer Spring evenings as a result – today’s nostalgic new trailer for Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some dovetails nicely with the promise of warmer weather and evenings spent revelling with friends.
And that’s exactly what the cast of Linklater’s college drama get up to in the snippet above. Arriving in tandem with a pair of new clips for the director’s spiritual successor to Dazed & Confused, here we see the likes of Blake Jenner, Glen Powell and Wyatt Russell stumble from adolescence to adulthood, sipping beer cans and fantasize about the future in the process.
As today’s new trailers prove, Will Brittain and Ryan Guzman star as a pair of unruly disco-dancing Texans, flanked by a cast that includes Tyler Hoechlin, Quinton Johnson, Austin Amelio, Forrest Vickery, Temple Baker, Tanner Kalina, Juston Street, and Zoey Deutch.

Last year brought with it the infamous "Summer of Splits," so named because of what seemed to be an inordinately large number of breakups, not to mention the mega star power represented among the broken up. Sleep is just one of those things you can’t seem to find during SXSW, no matter how many times you promise yourself you’ll get eight hours every night. It’s even more dangerous when you’re drinking at a bar and your phone all of the sudden switches from 2am to 3am. Thank you Daylight Savings for ruining my life.
SXSW Day 2 began with me filming B roll for an interview with Tatiana Maslany, which was incredible. The Orphan Black star was as effervescent as you would expect, glowing with the radiance of 1000 suns. This isn’t just me fangirling either; she’s an incredibly sweet and funny person and does not have a bad angle on camera. So that was a bucket list moment that I’ll never ever forget.

Recently I told ya creeps my thoughts on the new flea-bitten fright flick Bubba The Redneck Werewolf. In short, I loved the damn thing! And, as fate—along with an arcane ceremony involving spells etched on human flesh, a coupon for 2 for 1 strip steak at Sizzler, and a dog-eared copy of Swank—would have it, the die-rector and producer of ol’ Bubba are here right now with me in the Crypt o’ Xiii! So let’s put our paws together for Brendan Jackson Rogers and Will Phillips!
Famous Monsters. How did ya hear about ol’ Bubba the Redneck Werewolf, and what made ya think that lovable lycanthrope would make a bone-a-fide fright flick star?
Brendan Jackson Rogers. First off, we couldn’t be more excited to be talking to the Coffin Club. Thanks for having us! Our introduction to the redneck werewolf began with meeting Mitch Hyman [who I just so happened to have a jaw shesh with right here! - Xiii] through a mutual friend.

On Sunday night's episode of "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," he revealed that on this very Tuesday scientists are adding an extra second to the atomic clocks. Occurring just before 8pm Est, the additional second makes up for the mismatch in clocks and earth's rotation. It's not as exciting as Leap Year, when we have an extra day, or Daylight Savings, when we get an extra hour of sleep. Nonetheless, Leap Second, which only occurs every couple years, is worth a celebration. You may think a second is irrelevant, but John Oliver is determined to get you to make the most out of this rare speckle in time. Because you can do a lot more in a second than you think. But to save you the time of thinking what to do with that second, the "Last Week Tonight" team set up a website where you can watch a variety of one second videos.

Reacting to news that CNN has prepped a "doomsday video" — one that's honestly pretty weaksauce — the "Last Week Tonight" team decided to create their own tribute to humanity, should the environment or lions finally ensure we get what's coming to us. Reno 911: Boyle’s Indie Neo-Noir an Enjoyable Pulpy Exercise
For his fifth feature, indie filmmaker Dave Boyle pays homage to film noir tropes with his twisty, engaging Man From Reno. Along the lines of the light, comically inclined indie sleuthing of Aaron Katz’s Portland set Cold Weather (2010), Boyle gives noir a fresh face in the culturally ambiguous city of San Francisco. Though not all of its tangential elements feel quite successful, Boyle’s screenplay, co-written with his regular collaborators Michael Lerman and Joel Clark, features an unpredictably dark third act that more resolutely recalls the films it’s inspired by than most of its modern counterparts.
Recently escaping from a book tour back home in Japan, famed pulpy mystery author Aki (Ayako Fujitano) finds herself alone in San Francisco while her disappearance causes a dramatic furor. She runs into a sexy stranger who calls himself Akira (Kazuki Kitamura...

If you need a fabulous model for your next photo shoot, we just found two adorable candidates! Neil Patrick Harris celebrated Daylight Savings Time Sunday by taking his twins outside for a sunny afternoon. But during the process, he couldn't help but share what Gideon and Harper were wearing on such a beautiful spring day. "Fashionis-tots" he captioned on Instagram while his four-year-old twins worked the camera in quite the impressive looks. Gideon looked like a prep in training as he posed in a plaid button down with a blue cardigan and leather jacket. Meanwhile, Harper looked like the cutest diva on the block in a pink furry jacket, sparkling dress and boots. Seriously, where...

Welcome to the March 9, 2015 edition of Outrage Watch, HitFix's (almost) daily rundown of all the things folks are peeved about in entertainment. Today's top story: Leave Lily James' body alone. "On one hand it's upsetting, on the other hand it's just boring," James told The Huffington Post about those who have questioned whether her tiny waist in Disney's "Cinderella" was altered in post-production to appear smaller. "Why do women always get pointed at for their bodies? And why is this whole thing happening and I'm constantly having to justify myself? International Women's Day has just gone, and it just feels just a bit sad that it's still happening. You know, I'm very healthy and I always have been." Want more? There's plenty of indignation to go around. See below for a full roundup of today's kerfuffles. Outraged: The Maryknoll sisters Target: Bill O'Reilly Why: The Roman Catholic nuns have...

The start of Daylight Savings took its toll on Sunday's broadcast shows. There were drops across the board, from significant to minor, as Americans lost one hour over the weekend — affecting all three series that premiered last week. Fox's The Last Man on Earth took the biggest hit. Moving into its regular 9:30 p.m. time slot, the comedy lost 25 percent of its handsome premiere haul. It still managed to pull a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49, making it the No. 3 program of the night. The premiere has already 53 percent in its first round

Read More: HBO Renews 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver' For Two More Seasons If you're feeling unusually tired and moody today, it might be more than the fact it's a Monday. Daylight savings recently took place, and we're all asking the same question: Why is this still a thing? Fortunately, John Oliver has the same question, and addressed the issue on Sunday's "Last Week Tonight." As the video points out, it doesn't have very many benefits. To the contrary, car accidents increase in the days following the time change. Oliver and the "Last Week Tonight" team try getting to the bottom of why this is still an occurrence. "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" airs Sundays at 11pm on HBO. Read More: 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver' Enlists a Crime-Solving Pony for Season 2 Preview...

Another year, another day of moving our clocks forward one hour for antiquated reasons that few seem to understand. Thanks to HBO's Last Week Tonight, at least we can laugh at our own confusion. Daylight Savings time messing you up too? Losing that extra hour throwing off your typical schedule? Me too. It sucks. But we do have some movies on the docket to brighten your day. This week we are running all night with Cinderella. Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at what This Rotten Week has to offer. Rotten Watch Prediction 48% I don.t think it will surprise you to know that Liam Neeson is skilled in the art of acting like he can kill people. He.s proven this over a number of different movies. Few people play the hardened, battle-scarred, rough around the edges, hitman with a moral cause like Neeson. He.s created his ...

After “Glee” actress Naya Rivera criticized Kim Kardashian's nude Paper Magazine shoot, the “Disaster Movie” star’s best friend Jonathan Cheban took to his blog to point out some interesting points.
In a post titled “I (We) Don’T F*Ck With You… Naya! Lyrics By Big Sean!!” Cheban declared, “Naya has always been a step Behind… And this time she has seriously fallen Behind like Daylight Savings Time!”
“After a year-long tour of impersonating Kim, she decided to come out of her shell and make a real statement about Kim’s Paper cover (which has to be one of the hottest, if not the hottest cover all year).”
“As expected, she’s getting some press and when all else fails, use Kim. I’m personally disgusted that after badgering Kim all year and trying to hang out and do business together, she goes and tries to make a statement like this.

Jonathan Cheban is throwing major shade at Naya Rivera after the Glee gal slammed his best friend Kim Kardashian's butt-baring Paper Magazine cover.
Though she's seemingly replicated Kardashian's look several times (which Cheban is quick to call out), Rivera felt she had to comment on the bootylicious magazine image that Kim Instagrammed on Tuesday. The 27-year-old actress responded directly to the post, writing: "I normally don't. But... you're someone's mother..."

Oh snap! And that wasn't even the best of his insults. Not sure you...

Your move, Naya. Jonathan Cheban rushed to Bff Kim Kardashian's defense on Wednesday, Nov. 12, after Glee star Naya Rivera appeared to diss the reality star for her butt-baring Paper magazine cover. Who knew breakfast with Kimye would be so fabulous? Kim Kardashian and Kanye West kicked off Daylight Savings Time with an early morning meal at More Than Waffles in Encino, Calif., Sunday. While many of us would show up to our favorite breakfast spot in casual wear, heck even our PJs, the newlyweds certainly didn't disappoint fashion lovers. Joined by her grandmother Mary Jo Shannon, Kim stepped out in a gray knitted dress which hugged her curves in all the right places. She added a pair of strappy heels, a camel leather bag and a loose overcoat for the cool temperatures. In comparison, West wore ripped jeans with a matching shirt and jacket. The family owned restaurant, a...

Daylight savings time (Dst) is coming to an end early Sunday morning, or, in other words, Standard time will resume on Nov. 2.
When Does Daylights Savings Time End?
Clocks in America will be going back an hour Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 a.m., meaning many will get a chance to grab an extra hour of sleep. That is, unless you live in Hawaii or Arizona, two states which do not participate in daylight savings time, choosing instead to follow Mountain Standard Time all year-round.
Don’t forget: any smartphone or electronic device with a Gps and automatic date and time features will change times without prompting, but analog clocks and other electronic devices will have to be set back an hour. (Example: you wake up at 10 a.m., but the time has changed to 9 a.m.)
Unsure of how the time change will affect you? Check out TimeandDate.com.

"Man From Reno" is Dave Boyle's fifth feature film, having previously directed "Daylight Savings," "Surrogate Valentine," "White on Rice" and "Big Dreams Little Tokyo." The film is an ambitious bilingual neo-noir depicting a crime novelist and a small town sheriff teaming up to solve a murder mystery in San Francisco. [Editor's Note: Indiewire reached out to filmmakers with films playing at the 20th La Film Festival (June 11-19) to ask them about how they shot their indie, and what advice they had for other filmmakers. We'll be posting their responses throughout the run of the festival. Go Here for the master list.] What was the most difficult shoot on your movie and how did you pull it off? Two sequences come to mind. We open the film with a set piece out on a foggy road that was quite complicated. We ended up dividing the shot list into things that needed to be outdoors and things that could be faked in a studio. We then spent one long day in a foggy warehouse, and...
