That's on toxic
Calicodreamin29 March 2024
The chokehold this song had on the masses was unbelievable, for the first time it was like being toxic was being celebrated. So many of us singing along had absolutely no idea what a toxic relationship even was (good for us) but we still absolutely jammed out. This video perfectly summarizes the subject of the song and does a great job of making the viewer kind of feel bad for loving the song so much. I like to think at least one person watching hadn't properly understood what the song was about and got the shock of a lifetime... okay probably not the shock of a lifetime but at least a mild surprise.

Pretty good for a music video

Warning: Spoilers
But not really great for movie standards. This is probably the best you could summarize this 5-year-old short film. Eminem's rapping and Rihanna's singing give us an insight into the souls of the protagonists played by Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan ("Lord of the Rings"). I have to say the drama and the action did not do too much for me, but the music and the visuals made up for it. Putting Eminem in the corn field and Rihanna in front of the flames was nicely executed and the chorus is where Rihanna really delivers. Fairly catchy tune. Eminem I have never been too big on, especially in his more recent works, and these 4 minutes cannot change that. The director is Joseph Kahn and he has worked on many music videos by famous artists in the past. Experience shows. All in all, I guess I will be generous and give this one a thumbs up.
