A feel-good movie you can take your kids to without concern for content.

Common Chord is a great family film with important messages about fatherhood. This movie is beautifully shot (DOP Jim McNally) and the original music (mostly by Joshua Reuben) is perfectly paired to the script and characters. It's an admirable effort for a first film from these collaborators. Go see this movie if you like family-friendly viewing. Wonderful performance by Jason Cermak, who plays Kyle Foster - a young musician who must decide if he'll fight for custody of his young daughter after the child's mother dies. Ashlin Malik, 11, shines as his daughter Tiegan in this, her debut, and we can expect to see this little girl again. Filmed in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, threads of colourful family dynamics are woven into this movie that will feel familiar to many.

Feel Good Movie of the Year!

I love this genre. A very real example of family and the complicated navigation of love. Well cast and beautiful scenery of Alberta! The film captured my heart from the beginning to the end. Nothing over the top, just the realities of love and loss, determination and possibility. The music was well matched and the talent and chemistry between all of the actors was apparent. Jason Cermak did an incredible job portraying the challenges of being a parent and not always knowing the right answers. Ashlin Malik is an amazing young actress! Humor throughout the movie kept is light and entertaining. Looking forward to more films by all involved!
