Japanese Weepie.

This is an elaborate, damp eyed, multi generations inter-cut life of the woman poet Toyo Shibata, who first published in her eighties. Production value are good but the playing is broad and there are no surprises, as we weave back and forward in the lead's family history.Only the final presentation manages to be touching - prefigured by her fingering the blank page dummy of the volume her comic son tried to publish.

Chief interest is the gentle presence of star Kaoru Yachigusa, who was the ingénue in the Inagaki Miyamoto Musashi trilogy and Torasan's squeeze among her other seventy years of leads.
