The characters played by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne apparently were besties back in school, but the rift that began to grow between them over the woman that he chose to marry made the two lose touch for some number of years. That's the premise for the latest collaboration between the two and Rogen's writer/director and friend, Nic Stoller (who helped his other friend, Jason Segal, do something a bit similar with "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"). Rogen, Byrne and Stoller had previously made the "Neighbors" movies with Zac Efron, and although that's not filmmaking near the top of my comedic list, it's true that Seth and Rose have something almost undefinable between them on-screen. Their fast paced dialogue, even when the two are arguing vociferously with each other, seems so realistic and unforced, it almost seems to be improvised (but I don't know how much, if any, truly was). And that's what keeps up a certain interest level in the mostly mundane material. After a couple of episodes of the 10-episode season, I grant an extra star to its rating-in-progress just for this chemistry between the leads, making it 7/10.
