Was it supposed to be a sitcom?...

I stumbled upon the 2013 TV movie "Between Sisters" here in 2022, and since it was a movie that I had neither heard about before nor watched, of course I opted to sit down and watch it. And based from the movie's cover, I figured that I would be in for a comedy of sorts.
Writer Cas Sigers-Beedles put together a script and storyline that felt like it was the pilot episode for a sitcom draft to be presented to a TV station. I couldn't not look past that fake laughter-in-a-can that was put into the movie, to highlight the funny moments in the storyline. It just was such an odd thing to have in a movie, and it didn't work out at all. Actually this fake canned-laughter was doing the opposite, as it was ruining the movie experience.
And I will say that the storyline was actually interesting enough, but it was ruined by that sitcom atmosphere.
I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, but they did put on good enough performances. Just a shame that director Roger Melvin opted for that sitcom approach.
I gave up on "Between Sisters", I have to be honest and admit to that. I just couldn't look past the laughter-in-a-can or the whole sitcom atmosphere that permeated and oozed from every fiber of the movie. And truth be told, then this is not a movie that I plan to ever return to finish watching.
My rating of "Between Sisters" lands on a generous four out of ten stars.
