PLAYHOUSE 15 - "Backfire" 1953

This anthology series of twice-weekly one act plays ran during 1952 and 53. There were 58 of these shorts produced to fit a 15 minute time slot.

A mobster, Lewis Charles. learns from newspaper reporter, Lin McCarthy, that the police have found a witness to the shooting of a Policeman Lewis killed. Charles calls gun moll, Joyce Randolph, to hit the bar and "pump" reporter McCarthy for the name of the witness. He then sends his henchmen, Jack Klugman and Louis Sorin to construct a time bomb to eliminate the witness.

After setting the timer on the bomb, but before it can be planted, the police arrive to have a face to face chat with Lewis, Klugman etc. Needless to say the thugs are not at all pleased with the delay. They quickly fold and admit to the bomb etc.

Not bad at all for only a 12 and a half minute runtime.
