Well concieved, and well paced
Rob-O-Cop8 September 2023
I did enjoy this episode. It was a spooky mystery in a great location.

Firstly I loved the old theatre setting with the secret rooms, hidden people, and pockets of weird things going on, Theatre traditions/Superstitions etc, and acknowledgements of the daily life of a theatre and it's staff and hierarchy. "Because I'm the Stagemanager, That's why" etc and the stagemanager was well cast and believable.

It's a smartly written show with self awareness. "Don't split up", and the very next scenes they're all split up of course.

Oliver's conflict was interesting and well delivered and the series must be commended for finding the right level for delivering their character development. There's subtlety and nuance, and they could just ham fist it but the actors do rise to the challenge and make it natural and shine most of the time. What I'm saying is good top shelf acting as we would expect from these icons but it's above the level most tv demands so thank you for making the effort. There's obviously pride in your work and craft going on here.

Tobert has actually lifted the weak link Mabel's game thankfully. Their chemistry is good.

Only downside is still the swearing. There's nothing wrong with swearing but this stuff seems unnatural for the characters and situation.

Just ok episode
harineem-209-5254888 September 2023
This season despite the star cast has been disappointing from the start. We finally see an episode around investigation but that also has hardly any plot. We see an exploration of Oliver's fear of ending his stage career in a worst possible way. Charles deal with his fear of dying lonely and a extremely predictable fish flushed down comedy sequence.

Then we also have a side plot on stage ghosts or myths explored with a soliloquy by Howard.

End of it we are still where we were after the murder with no progress in solving the same.

I can see that Steven Martin is one of the Producers but does he have to grab so much meaningless screen time. If you look at previous seasons, the whole show used to revolve around Selena Gomez character with the other two pitching in the story.

But this whole season every episode is Martin Short whining about his play and Steve Martin doing a comedy routine which isn't even funny any more. Selena Gomez gets a look-in just for the sake of it. Getting difficult to watch.

Steve Martin
GoldenGooner049 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Always loved him when he was in his crazy days. SNL, The Nerd, Man with 2 Brains, and he is back to that person in this series We saw it in the last episode of season 1, a bit more in season 2 and now he is taking over this episode with the fish was cuckoo but Martin at his best.

And this is the problem, he is "taking over the show" the episode with the musical number where he was brilliant again he "takes over" It's not about murders anymore it's all about Manic Steve Martin which for me is no bad thing, but it's not what the show was supposed to be about So Martin Short is now coming up very Short, and Selena starts to show some leg and be a bit sexy. As Martin is "taking over" and the other 2 must be in a right old tizz.

And we all know who the Murderer is, it stands out a Mile it's :-) And prey tell why the Police never checked the dressing room, I mean come on !!

One of the best episodes yet in a great series!

We really loved this episode! Several supporting actors really get their moments to shine. 2023 Steve Martin revived his 1980's Steve Martin in multiple scenes. The writing almost induced a couple of spit takes. Jessie Williams is value added, has good chemistry with Selena Gomez, and we'd be on board with the Trio becoming a quartet (assuming he doesn't end up being the murderer.

There's some fun nods to theater superstitions, and while it's almost a fun stand alone episode in its own right, it still manages to propel the story along nicely.

Highly recommend the series, and this episode in particular.

Craziness in the Theater
Hitchcoc6 September 2023
Mabel becomes frustrated because her "old guy" partners are distracted by their own personal stuff. Oliver can't put the finger on Loretta because he has fallen in love with her. He even destroys evidence. Charles is reeling from his near marriage and is having a post mid-life crisis. He also failed to tell the others that he slugged the victim before the rehearsal. Mabel has lost objectivity in many ways. But this is a great episode in that while these things are getting in the way, they are back to coming up with clues. We have a great scene involving the ghost in the theatre--who appears unless certain rules are followed (like sweeping the stage). There is a great part of the episode also with Charles, his goldfish, and a toilet, in a room where he is locked up.

Best episode yet. It felt like a finale with all the intrigue mystery and pace of one of the best agatha Christie,s with added humour, that makes this a true classic

Best episode yet. It felt like a finale with all the intrigue mystery and pace of one of the best agatha Christie,s with added humour, that makes this a true classic. One of the best series I have ever enjoyed and I should know as I have watch a lot of great TV over the years. So worth the wait and each character sells themselves well. Love tha0t Howard gets his moment and Steve Martin shows as always his true genius and comedy timing. So difficult to wait another week for the next instalment. No wonder Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd wanted a peice of the action. As Martin Short says, play on Macduff or was that Macbeth.

Episode 306
bobcobb3017 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When this episode started with the absolutely awful Howard narrating it you knew that we were not in for a good one. That terrible character appeared in way too many scenes, both with the main stars and some with him leading the way.

And then it had outrageous twists and turns for Oliver and Charles that did not really lead anywhere. Like they do every year they tease dissension and chaos within the group but we know they will revolve all of their issues by the end of the season, rinse and repeat.

I look forward to the show each and every week, but I have been let down immensely for the last couple of weeks.

Warning: Spoilers
In Only Murders In the Building Season 3, the trio focuses on different goals, contrasting the first two seasons. In Episode 6, they reunite to examine new information related to Ben's murder, but a blowout argument threatens to derail their friendships. Howard's admission about Ben's death is too far-fetched for anyone to believe. After Episode 3, Howard was ruled the killer, but someone else rose to take his place. Gooseberry Theatre has plenty of ghost stories, as most arise from specific occurrences, making them shocking and causing people to attach a meaning to them. One such occurrence was a sandbag killing Gideon in the middle of his act, which led to the birth of a ghost story. Howard, known for his dramatic flair, believed in a ghost story that led to a reunion of the trio. Mabel, Oliver, and Charles were unsure of their goals, with Mabel being too close to the case due to her CoBro status. Oliver's motivations were selfish, wanting to prove Loretta was not a killer, while Charles sought to escape boredom after Joy's departure. Despite their potential disaster, they had a fun time together, sharing the top three funniest moments. Oliver's perspective changed after a run-in with a colleague, and he prioritized his connection with Loretta. Oliver had made numerous mistakes but needed everything to proceed without a hitch, as she was Death Razzle's star and everything in his life was tied to the musical's success. Despite his genuine love for Loretta, he also had self-preservation as a motive. The episode of Only Murders In the Building Season 3 Episode 5 ended on a cliffhanger about Loretta and Ben's relationship, but it didn't offer much headway into the topic. The episode was marked by Joy leaving Charles after the accusation, which warned not to make the mistake of leaving him. The hour helped eliminate two suspects: Howard, who needed the play to prove his acting skills, and Jonathan, the understudy who stood to gain everything if Ben died. Ben possibly had a drug problem, possibly overdosing while on stage. Despite the embarrassing incident, he brushed it off in true Ben fashion. The top three funniest moments were when the trio interacted with each other, such as Charles explaining how to pronounce French words where the last letter in a word, especially a "t," is never pronounced. The episode of OMITB, featuring Mabel, Charles, and Oliver, is gloomy and untethered, despite the characters' struggles with their love lives. While romantic entanglements add depth to the character arcs, the show has been better when focusing on the trio's camaraderie and crime-solving shenanigans. The atmospheric setting of the Goosebury theatre and top-notch storytelling make the episode feel like a filler. The creatives have a unique way of bringing things full circle in these episodes. However, there are not many strides in solving Ben's murder. The season has had its filler episode, but it is hoped that this serves as a starting point for something better. Martin Short's stellar performance continues to be gripping.

This season is not heading anywhere
starfishr-751-54691710 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is just filler material and it's really getting boring after the last episodes also didn't do much for the plot.

What's the point having of Steve Martin lock himself in that maintenance room? Horribly boring, adds nothing to the plot and also doesn't work at all joke-wise.

Meryl Streep's character is also boring and their dating-life does not interest me at all, it's just irrelevant. Yes, it's hinted that she committed the murder, but the current main suspect changes in every episode and there's a couple of episodes left. Then it's just tiring watching them chase an obvious dead end.

This show really took a nosedive after season 2, season 3 is just not exciting at all.

Is it only me? Or its just become a wasting time?
AvionPrince169 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Im more and more disappointed with that season and the way that they introduced that ghost story made me realised: the show have no sense at all and more we dive into it, less meaning it have and the comedy become too much dominant. That story with the fish, the ghost, Charles that get stucked in the building with a stupid scene to be honest. Mabel who her acting become just saying some lines and get in love with Tobert. And to be honest their fights at the end just made me wonder: is that show become a completely waste of time? I dont know yet but its really classic and the comedy cant justify a whole episode. I will still watch until the end but im not a huge fan of that weird mise en scene and the characters who become very simple and lack of complexity. I really have the feeling that we have less investigations and more annoying jokes. Sadly. I hope it will be more interesting because now is really sad.

Ghost Light
Prismark1024 December 2023
All attention is on Howard. He confesses to his responsibility of the death of Ben Glenroy.

That does not mean Ben killed him. It was all to the infamous ghost that has cursed Goosebury Theater. The ghost of actor Gideon Gooseberry who died in a stage accident.

Howard failed to perform a ritual sufficiently to remove the curse the night Ben died.

Charles is not convinced by the ghost story. All of sudden he has near misses when two sandbags nearly fall on him. Later he gets locked in a room and thinks he is going to die.

There has always been the feeling that the third season of Only Murders in the Building has been meandering slightly.

Episode 6 dispels all doubts. It really goes nowhere. Apart from Mabel realising that the podcast team are falling apart. Maybe she should team up with Cinda Canning after all.

The End Is Near (Or Should Be)
kbernieman7 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes the glitter has worn off without anyone recognizing the fact that the best came and went. It's difficult to say " enough" to something so cleverly crafted and fresh in the first two seasons ; so different and bold; so interesting a cast grouping that looked strange but was perfect., has worn out its stay. "Only Murders" with this episode has morphed into the Steve Martin character, hanging on to past glory reluctant to accept reality of mediocrity. A whining mess of reaching for something not there, at least not this latest storyline of solving the murder of Paul Rudd's obnoxiously stereotypical character. Yes, that's it -stereotypes abound now. The move out of the building into and onto Broadway had possibilities but is droning on with a boring plot, cliched' filled characters and dialogues (often monologues) that begs for a final bow while there is still a modicum of dignity and respect for an innovative show that burned bright but dimmed as fast.
