What an episode. ALL the payoffs! All the chills. All the lols and gasps and holy moly EVERYONE delivered. Streep is magic.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph made me belly laugh at least 6 times.

Short, Martin, Gomez have a nice complex chemistry that has developed like real friendships. Disappointments, fights, make ups.

Mostly - I feel like Martin Short has found a character that he can be way over the top with, but also, genuinely vulnerable and intimate. His masks drops and you see a man struggling to get it right. With work, with friends, with family and with love.

And the music is lovely lovely lovely. I want to see Death Rattle, the Musical for real.

Another masterpiece
algodik19 September 2023
Sitzprobe takes OMITB's unique storytelling one step further. What could be considered a twist of an entire season is casually addressed early in the episode, but this twist holds the viewer so attached to the screen that the viewer internalizes every piano note, every violin chord and every conversation throughout the entire episode.

Multiple stories converge while the music in parallel builds up to the finale of the episode, where the viewer is simply left in awe. Not because there are any surprises or big twists, but because of the way this masterpiece appeals to your senses.

You can intellectually expect what's about to happen in OMITB but you can never emotionally be prepared for it.

Outstanding

Warning: Spoilers
"Sitzprobe" is easily my favorite episode this season so far, and one of the best of the entire series. It really does have it all: hilarious jokes, terrific acting, catchy songs and a surprising emotional punch. While her character has been gripping from the start, Meryl Streep is given expanded room to shine here as we discover more about her past. While Howard and Detective Williams got plenty of laughs as usual, the comedic highlight by far was Steve Martin's musical performance in the middle, which truly has to be seen to be believed. I've yet to dislike a single episode of OMITB, but this one felt a bit tighter and more focused than a couple others this season. The ending in particular has me ecstatic to see how this story will continue to unfold throughout the remaining two episodes.

This is the episode this season needed!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Unlike many people on this app, I have enjoyed Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building, but I would agree that it does seem to be more about relationships than about the investigation, with very little happening for it. However, this episode knocks it out of the park. Meryl Streep's performance (as always) was impeccable, and explained so much of her previous characterisation. The music, especially Steve Martin's song, were incredibly utilised as the score behind this mystery, and Martin Short's heart attack at the end left me shouting at my TV screen. An excellent piece of television, no doubt about it.

Meryl Streep - holy cow

Warning: Spoilers
This show is a delightful farce. Just ridiculous moment, after witty ridiculous moment. I have really enjoyed the creation of a musical this season even if there has not been a lot of time spent on finding a murderer. In fact, finding the murderer is an afterthought. Steve Martin is at the top of his Steve-Martin-game, and the rest of the cast is doing a bang up job. And then there is Meryl Streep. She wandered into the show meek and mild, giving a good performance, but nothing to write home about until she sang a lullaby. And then BAM - she went into Meryl Streep mode and delivered a scene that was only missing a mic drop at the end. WOW. She is just incredible. I got chills and tears from a comedy farce.

Well that was one of the fastest 40 minutes of any tv I've watched. Gripped from the first minute to the last. Excellent writing! And the Steve Martin song was the perfect ensemble with the scenes going on in the background. So so good.

It feels like we're getting close to the killer but knowing this show there's no doubt in my mind there will be another plot twist in it yet with 2 episodes in the season remaining. I'd imagine someone is still covering for someone somewhere.

Meryl Streep was the perfect person for this season and I'm loving every second of it. Not many shows are at this level on tv right now that's for sure.

Stunning

First of all, the plotting here is beyond compare. Red herrings are swimming all over the place in the most positive way. Meryl Streep's beginning confession puts us on our heels and makes us care. Her inability to tell her son makes us want so badly for things to work out. As Oliver and Mabel try to do their detective thing, Charles puts on the performance of his life, doing his patter song to perfection. What an actor. What actors! And who should show up but that rotund female cop, barging in at the most inopportune time. There is also the tension between Oliver and Loretta as she feels he has betrayed her. But there is one other thing. We get a real look at the workings of the music in a Broadway play. We see that this is not a silly thing like Oiiver has done in the past. And finally, there is the undying love of a mother after years and years. One of the finest moments I've seen on TV, with a very serious conclusion.

Brilliant episode
harineem-209-52548820 September 2023
I am so glad to watch this episode as it really takes a leap in the overall quality of this season. It is well crafted with a balance of emotions and mystery. Martin Short just keeps exceeding himself in this series.

But the star of the show is Meryl Streep. Its amazing how as an actress, she completely elevates a movie or a series to heights. Her performance is brilliant in this episode, how can someone be so consistently good in all forms.

The NYPD cop lady is quite funny and has great comic timing and its good to have her back.

I read somewhere this is Steve Martin's last act, I can see he is trying very hard to make it the best. But he is getting completely eclipsed by Martin Short and Meryl Streep. Selena Gomez has the flattest role this season with practically no character arc or any acting scenes of importance. Even the producer actress has scenes with more depth.

Meryl Streep joins the three; amigos and EP's and actors...

Warning: Spoilers
Meryl Streep joins the three; (amigos and EP's and actors) to provide theatrical credibility to this episode of song. A fun backstage look at the sausage being made, with an exhibition of versatility from the cast members.

The theatrical bent of a musical this season takes precedence and there has not been a lot of time spent on finding a murderer, Dicky might be a suspect.

Meryl Streep (playing Loretta) sang a lullaby (The Nanny's Lullaby) her versatility went into switch mode, and she delivered a scene that was a definite mic drop. This YouTube experience can be found~~> "Look for the Light" Music Video.

Episode 308

Warning: Spoilers
There was finally a little bit of drama in this episode, which is long overdue, but another false red herring with Meryl Streep's character confessing to the murder. We know that neither did she do it, nor is she covering for the actual murderer.

As others have pointed out, the team of Mabel, Charles and Oliver working together to solve a crime and put on a podcast is what made this show worth watching. We have gotten very little of that the last month and for reasons that no one has been able to explain.

If they do come back for a fourth season I think they need to ditch the stage and get back to basics.

Classic show with Legends at their best

Warning: Spoilers
Season 3 of OMITB has seen a "cat's out of the bag" episode, revealing secrets about the trio and Loretta's past. The series has two more episodes, with both expected to reveal more. Episode 8 uses the theatre setting better than the earlier episode, with Da'Vine Joy's unexpected cameo as Williams. Martin Short has turned around Oliver's outlook in this season, and he was the pick of performers. However, the characters in this season did not move forward with the narrative, and the repetitive juxtaposition is frustrating. Despite this, OMITB has a reliable format that hardly creates any hiccups. Loretta's life was reshaped after her elimination from the suspect pool, and her hatred for Ben Glenroy became clear when she revealed she was a mother and had given up her child for adoption. This revelation was not surprising, as some readers thought Ben was Loretta's child. However, Loretta's passionate hatred for Ben was not entirely based on her son, Dickie. Learning that Dickie was her biological child filled in the gap, explaining her hatred for Ben because he mistreated her son. Loretta kept up with her son's life through a scrapbook, but she had limited knowledge about the relationship between the brothers, which was shocking as they were in the same production. The revelations about Loretta's life and the relationship between Ben and Dickie were a revelation that enriched the viewing experience. The protagonist, Dickie, witnesses Ben using Dickie as a doormat, leading to a deep hatred towards him. Her guilt for Ben's actions is heightened as she grapples with her feelings for her son, Oliver Putnam, who is nearing Broadway premiere. The protagonist's relationship with Dickie is complicated by her role as the director and the lead actor, who has secrets. The situation becomes even more dangerous when Dickie's involvement in Ben's murder is revealed as innocent, causing Detective Williams to embark on another hunt. The protagonist's relationship with Dickie is a complex and emotional one, highlighting the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship in the world of theatre. Da'Vine Joy Randolph's portrayal of Detective Williams in Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Episode 7 was well-suited due to her commanding voice, ability to play bosses, and her ability to deliver comedy with great timing. The episode focused on Dickie's motive to kill Ben, with Ben emerging as the top contender. However, Loretta's involvement in the murder was ruled out due to her limited access to the theatre's rooms and her drug problem. Ben was younger and stronger than Loretta, making it difficult for her to pull off a feat like pushing down an elevator shaft. Additionally, Loretta couldn't climb high into the Arconia, as she wasn't a resident. Despite these challenges, Randolph's performance as Detective Williams was a solid choice for the show.

Reharsals and murder
AvionPrince1612 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The investigations continue. So we learn a little bit more of Dicki, Loretta and Ben. The relationships between them. So we basically investigating and that new cop that come make the story go a little bit forward and put some pressure. Also Oliver and Loretta admit their love for each other. Im still not convincing by the comedy and there is way too much and really some unecessary scenes: (Charles and Oliver while they try to gather info from the interrogation but all that for this? Just put a mic! Godamn! Its really too much for what it is.) The end was pretty surprising: Loretta confess the murder of Ben: is it really her? Or is it only to avoid Dick to go in prison? And what about Oliver? What about his condition? We dont really know yet. Need to see more.

Sitzprobe
Prismark104 February 2024
A 'Sitzprobe' is when theatre rehearsals take place with a live orchestra. You get an idea if the musical works in a live setting and what might need fixing.

Both Charles and Loretta will have to give live solo performances. Only the critic Maxine is present as well as Detective Donna Williams.

Before that the episode begins with more of Loretta's backstory. Why she wanted to do the play. Loretta wanted to get close to Dickie Glenroy. The son she gave up for adoption.

The police have released the stalker. All the suspects are back into play. This includes Dickie who Mabel has suspected.

At least the onus is back into the trio doing detective work again. They also put aside their differences and get back into doing a podcast.

There was nothing unsurprisingly here once the reveal about Loretta's offspring is established. Loretta's solo of a mother doing anything for her son was always going to lead to one outcome.
