Sunday Without God
Tweekums2 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This series begins fifteen years after all births stopped and those who died continued to exist in the way they did while alive. There is only one way for the dead to stay dead; they must be buried by a 'gravedigger'. Protagonist Ai is one such gravedigger although living in a small village she has never had to use her skill. Then one day somebody comes to town and kills everybody; he tells her that they were already dead but didn't realise it. Once she has buried them she leaves the village and as she travels she makes new friends and learns more about the world outside; including a city inhabited by the dead who don't want to be buried and a school where time keeps resetting each July.

This was an entertaining series with a fairly original premise and Ai was a good protagonist. The series is fairly episodic with each sub-story taking three or four episode. This meant secondary cast members seemed to disappear into the background at times which was a pity as many of them are interesting. There is a good sense of mystery for most of the series and not all of the mysteries are fully resolved which some viewers might be disappointed by. The character design is decent enough although fairly generic and the animation was pretty good. Overall I'd say this series is worth watching although it isn't a must see series.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Really Enjoyed This, Very Different From Mainstream Anime!!

Warning: Spoilers
I picked up this title because i read the thumbnail and it sounded very interesting, a world that God abandoned where people don't die and the only ones able to truly kill someone is a gravekeeper. It sounded pretty badass but it wasn't entirely what i thought it was going to be, from what the description was. I'm glad it wasn't what i expected though it turned out very good!. In the first episode i was like "oh its going to be an average decent anime" but i was wrong. This show is full of mysteries and a lot of things that caught me off guard, i was genuinely surprised by the end of the show. This show also has "the feels" which i didn't realize, caught myself wanting to tear up a little xD. If your looking for something that actually makes you think and will catch you off guard, with a really interesting world, something we don't see to often then this is a really good anime to try. I've also seen the OVA episode, and that was pretty good as well, gave you a bit of closer to the anime and some details into the series we didn't get earlier. The artwork & music are phenomenal, definitely one of the nicer art work I've seen from any anime.

4/5 Why Not 5/5? I feel there's so much going on in the world and so little time to fully show it all and build in depth stories around each thing because its only 12 episodes, I would absolutely love a season two. The Artwork & music are amazing, character design is so appealing. The story line and everything in this world is so unique and different from your run of the mill animes, its a very nice change of pace and just a very fun ride you don't want to end, you want to continue exploring this very complex mysterious world. If you give this a shot definitely get to episode 4+, imo it really picks up from there. The last 6 episodes in-particular were my favorite.

Heartwarming

Between her learning to love and let go with her father, learning that she can choose her own family with Louki and Scar, and learning to never give up on her dreams with Alice, this is an extremely heartwarming story. This is officially one of my favorite animes now simply because it reminds of how life can be what one makes of it and that deep feelings for others can happen before one even realizes it. I will be watching this again and hoping for a second season (despite my disbelief of that happening) simply to understand what truly happened to Alice - I've never had an anime leave me so unsure.

Warning: Spoilers
This anime had so much emotion and the anime was interesting. I was confused about why the story changed so much they tried to fill in to many story's and the ending was kinda confusing. It was very charming though and I really hope for a season two.
