Warning: Spoilers
I watched 5 of the episodes not because i liked them but because i wanted to know about it better so that i could give an accurate review. Sadly 1/10 is the lowest i can give it. This show is one of the worst i have seen. It shows an overly gun happy, uneducated "swamp man". I have seen a lot of pointless TV shows but as far as i am concerned "Legend of Shelby the swamp man" is the worst on i have seen in my life. I mean is shelby short for Shelber or shelbiniro or shelbina. I don't know why the History channel would even run this show it seems more fit for TrueTv. I feel that this show gives and inaccurate description and image to the people that live in the swamps or around it.

Very fun and enjoyable show

from the crazy river logger from the show Axe Men, here is Shelby to show you what he does on his off time from his normal business ( which is logging on Louisiana rivers) . If you like having a good laugh this is a show for you. I would say similar to the same premise as Duck Dynasty, its puts a what you would seem like a normal man( from the Axe Men show, he just a river logger) into some questionable positions, that are comedic and fun to watch. But I would say, him on Axe Men is funnier, but that just better editing I guess. I would have to say, its not for anyone looking for a "educational show" on the History channel, but if you are looking to see how a man, lives in the swamp on a house boat, and somehow makes time to have a good time. then this has to be watched.

Awful!!!!

Seriously a TERRIBLE show. It belongs on TLC with Honey Boo Boo, not on History. It's disgusting and it's stupid. It's also a waste of a time slot that could be used for a show people actually want to watch like Ancient Aliens or Pawn Stars or really any other History or H2 show. What History is there in watching a man go through a swamp flinging snakes? Or washing his butt on a freaking hose pipe? Or running through a mall with no shoes? I don't know why anyone would watch this. It is a stupid show. It makes no sense why it's on History. I know that most of the shows on the History Channel aren't exactly history, but at least Pawn Stars and American Pickers have people come in and explain the history of the items and don't gross me out.

Interesting way of life
kimjonglulz28 August 2013
It's not the best show but it really shows how life is in such a "civilized" country. He's a humble man that pays back what he takes. I love all these butt-hurt kids that wouldn't last a day in his shoes (or bare feet) that give him a negative rating because they can't understand life isn't like their life in a sheltered white suburb. His way of life is not as easy or spoon fed as most people that reviewed and that's why they gave it negative reviews : they can't relate. This is a part of the country that takes brains and brawn to live in. If I was lost in a swamp, i'd hope to come across a man like Shelby. Also I love the kid talking about GUN HAPPY. Hey, kiddo, you need a gun to survive in that part of the country. Enjoy fighting an alligator without a weapon you dope smoking hippie. All in all, it's a story of a humble man that lives in the swamp and pays back everyone he ever asks help from. He might be silly and goofy but deep inside he has more knowledge of survival then all the reviewers put together.

This is not Certified Cajun.
iambonzwa22 October 2022
Shelby, The Swamp Man, is an entertaining character but entirely made up by writers who insult our Cajun heritage. When I saw Shelby use his shotgun as a boat paddle, I immediately knew this show was totally full of it. Only a complete moron would use a shotgun as a boat paddle. I am from the bayous of real "Cajun" Acadiana, Louisiana. Shelby is from the Lake Ponchartrain area which is not a true Cajun region. Even in the Ponchartrain, people don't rip through the bayous shooting guns carelessly and saying, "Eoooo!!!", Every other word. His vocabulary is ridiculous and obviously blown out of proportion. If he would keep his mouth shut most of the time, maybe the show would receive 2 stars. Being from South Louisiana and watching this feels like a slap in the face to my heritage.

Good show about a wild Cajun man earning his way in the swamp
Leeninfxstb4 November 2013
I have now watched almost all of the episodes from the opening season. This man is wild and crazy but very entertaining! But I guess that is what it takes to survive in the Louisiana Bijou. He seems to be quite an interesting character with a heart of gold that would give you the shirt off of his back if he thought you needed the help. I'm not a fan of reality shows, and have often wondered why this is something that would be on the History Channel, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching each episode, and will be watching the rest that I missed as soon as I'm able to find them. If you don't like us country boys and rednecks, then just flip the channel because you probably wouldn't understand or be entertained by Shelby Stanga!

The Most Ridiculous Swamp Show Ever!
collectorofsorts7 January 2022
To start with, I live in a neighboring state and grew up fishing the bayou's and hanging out with my Cajun friends. And I can 100% say that the 'Shelby' character is one of the most ridiculous and overly exaggerated characters that the TV production companies ever 'created'. The people who live around the swamps there aren't crazy like Shelby. They don't run around shooting guns everywhere. We see guns as tools and we don't act like fools with our tools. And they don't run around stealing off their neighbors land like Shelby does. There are some parts that are mildly entertaining. Which is why I gave it a 3 star review. But, for the most, it's just scripted drama that some writer in Hollywood came up with after watching the Beverly Hillbillies. I wouldn't recommend this series.

Shelby the swamp man- my actual review is - 100
flascubalover12 October 2018
I am not sure where I have been my 1st time seeing it and we live on your station but, the only show that is more annoying (because of the idiot "BEAR" on Alaska Bush people) is this show..It makes Bear on Alaskan Bush people look GOOD I repeat only1 degree better! So I give him -99....This is the most STUPID thing I have watched in my 60 years. It is not a reality show as most are not, but why push it to the point of thinking the American people are STUPID... I do not find it entertaining AT ALL! Just plain BS and he needs mental help (at the very least if he is really like this..) Maybe as I stated it is not really a reality show. But, even there is just so stupid esp if you think we are falling for this.I will never watch this again....would rather watch another show. Anyway if we had a better "star" rating I give this a - 100. That's how bad it is.Sorry But, may be time to watch another channel (or watch the grass grow in a florida drought which is more entertaining in this case). Any way PLEASE find something else but this idiot Shelby. otr have your writers earn their $. thvm

Give him the world. Best Ever
The best ever, it's addicting. you can't stop watching it. Best show known to date on this planet. Spanks anything that's on television. Give this man the world and everything in it. You can't get no better. If I got lost in the swamp, I'd want to be found by The Legend. Adding in the logs too would be good on this show. We need more Ax Men and this show. Pronto please. Please Dear God, show more of this man and his daisy dukes and ladies underwear. Can't get enough of him and his gorilla hands cousin. Please give them the world, they deserve it. Omg, my bagonneas miss this man and his wise decisions and failures. Wish he was my dad.

a horrible accident waiting to happen
billbonu30 January 2019
Anyone who knows and cares at all about gun or boating safety would stay as far away from this ding a ling and his show as humanly possible.then there is the completely innacurate portrayal of the Cajuns/Acadian French, people who live and survive in and around the swamps of south Louisiana, as my ancestors did. First of all,the last thing a person who lives in the swamp wants or needs is an injury of any kind.whether its from driving a boat 100 mph down a drainage ditch while jumping fallen trees or shooting yourself or someone else because you're completely irresponsible with fire arms, injuries in the swamp are to be avoided at all cost.its a matter of time before someone watching this garbage goes out and tries something he allegedly done, and gets seriously injured or killed in the middle of the swamp miles from civilization, a hospital or even a cell phone tower.do you think history channel would care?thankfully, real Cajuns, not spun out tweakers like this dude, know better. I live down the road in ponchatoula.the stangas are from bedico, the math capital of tangipahoa parish, and are not known as the brightest bunch which is saying a lot considering the fact that the literacy rate around there is about 10%.a lot of trash out that way which is why he fits right in.nobody in those parts like the man,let alone respect him and he's known to associate primarily with the crack heads and junkies in the area.wonder if history channel even bothered to find out if he is a convicted felon before sensationalizing his idiotic behavior with fire arms on national television or were they all starry eyed at the possibilities of such a clown attracting similarly low IQ viewers that they neglected to consider the fact that he probably isn't even able to legally possess a firearm in the first place? Someone that ignorant is bound to have at least one felony. Anyway, thanks Shelby and history channel for taking the integrity, hard work and perseverance of the Louisiana Cajun down to such a low and disgraceful level. Again, this man is an imposter and in no way shape or from represents the proud and independent Cajuns.caju s don't come from that area anyway. They are west, south and northwest of there in places like houma,Alexandria, Lafayette, Leesville etc.not bedico.Cajuns are appalled by this clown I assure you!
