Show, Don't Tell
squidsquad-626106 February 2024
This movie is the animated equivalent of The Room (2003) by Tommy Wizzou. I'm not even joking. This movie breaks every fundamental rule of scriptwriting, the pacing is one of the worst I've seen in any movie (The Room included), and the shots are so repetitive as well. The voice acting is terrible, the editor only seems to do fade to blacks every single time, and some characters monologue for way too long. Sometimes subtlety is a blessing in disguise, and this movie really made me realize that. If you want a bad movie to make fun of with your friends, then this is the movie for you. You will love it for that reason alone.

"I believe I am on the level of Disney and Dreamworks." - The director
mateofromsawx20 February 2024
This is... a film! Actually, I can barely call it a film

The script follows absolutely no basic plot, we get the same opening monologue about 3 times, and every single time we get it, it introduces the story differently, causing so much confusion and just making the film unbearable. The same shots are used over and over, and the director REALLY likes fading to black for whatever reason.

The voice acting is just absolutely terrible, when characters yell you can hear the microphones peaking, and the emotion just isn't there. Also the character Calobi is just the director's self-insert.

The film repeatedly tries to make some sort of commentary about AI art, tracing art, today's economy, world peace, among other things, but the topics are just dropped and never bought back up again.

I can see that the director wanted this film to have some sort of meaning to it, a deeper message, but everything about it just falls flat on it's face. But hey, if you're looking for a movie to watch while high, this is it.

My review for Our Drawings
chukoloco22 February 2024
Here's my review for Our Drawings.

This movie may be one hour long, but it has multiple negative qualities, such as that the pacing of the film can either go at a breakneck speed and all of a sudden get slow and boring, and the story/world-building is also confusing and incoherent at the same time. Also it doesn't take the time to introduce some of the other characters, and rather introduces the same character we already met (Paige) multiple times. I'm curious, who's the name of the furry blue guy with bunny ears or the floating rock guy with sunglasses?

It does have potential, but the execution made it hard to tell what's going on even less than 10 minutes into the movie, and things mostly just happen or even repeat (like Paige's backstory), and some of the characters can be annoying and sometimes obnoxious.

The afterimage effect for the animation also made it harder to watch (especially scenes where characters or the camera move fast). But the animation/visuals itself isn't the worst and can sometimes be passable, but it's not amazing.

The editing is also all over the place too (for example, a scene will fade out even in the middle of a conversation, and it happens often.)

However there are some positives, the parts that I found the most positive and somewhat funny include the Wizard and Beatboxing Puppy characters.

I don't really think this movie's great, and there are definitely multiple flaws that needs to be fixed with the pacing, characters, animation (the afterimage effect), editing, and story/world-building for it to be good, and it's better to watch something else. I'll give it a 2-3/10 for the effort (and Beatboxing Puppy)

It was kind of bland
Steamwind26 February 2024
First of all, the scriptwriting sounds like an A. I wrote this.

In the first 2 minutes, I noticed some key problems, such as the movie needing to explain literally everything. It explains more than it actually shows. We don't need to know that Paige is good at everything involving art; we need to be shown it. It's not good story-telling to take two minutes to tell the audience how amazing the character is. It felt like a lot of needless lore dumping. A lot of voice acting felt like it didn't fit the characters. The animation felt stiff, with no expression whatsoever. Some of the animation style felt out of place, like Dog's style, which didn't match well with the rest of the movie. The jokes really fell flat, like some really came out of left field.

A Struggle to Get Through (Long Review)
yasminsparkles5 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I love creative expression and I'll always admire large projects done by one to two people...except for this one.

This doesn't feel like a film. It's like one of those quick cash grabs that try to parody Disney and fails miserably. Which is funny because the director stated that this was on their level. It absolutely isn't. The animation is so beginner-level, the writing and progression is atrocious, the characters feel like symptoms of a fever dream, and the songs are terrible. Like some embarrassing vent piece. I even would've forgiven the self-insert if he wasn't a Gary Stu.

What's worse is that I can't feel the passion. I don't feel any genuine heart, just this second-hand embarrassment-filled anger. There are so many negative, petty comments about the art community. It's as if the director had a history of being made fun of for his art and decided to make this movie to prove a point. The message itself, which I think is about taking your time with developing your skills and the soul behind each drawing is important, is great, but it's so overshadowed by constant word vomit about how cruel "non-artists" can be. It doesn't feel like entertainment, it's like listening to that one friend vent and rant endlessly.

Now the animation. I don't believe it's AI generated, like almost everyone else is saying. But it's so obviously made by a beginner that it get incredibly distracting. I almost thought they were using animated pre-sets There's this "after effect" where previous frames will float around the characters as they're moving. However, I can say that I see the effort and respect the animators for it. I just wish they spent more time honing their skills so the film can go above just barely decent.

And the writing...by god, the writing. It's one of this film's worst features. I was so confused throughout the entire run time. We have four completely different introductions to the main character (Paige Foster), and the only things I could piece together was that she has a magic pencil and could transport herself into the world of her drawings or just bring them into reality (such as with Beatboxing Puppy, the best character, I'll say). But we hardly ever see her draw, at least in a way that's relevant to the plot. It would've been cool if we could actually see these drawings of hers come out of the papers or literally pull her into the drawing world, if I can even call it that. The drawing world barely feels fleshed out and I didn't care in the slightest when Calobi said - in his extremely drawn out dialogue - that it was in danger. Despite it being the main setting, we barely see it, just reused shots to draw out the run time. And speaking of setting, the characters flip flop from one setting to another without any natural transition. Actually, every scene in this movie just goes to the next and the next and the next without any natural transition. Most of them don't even feel connected, it's like they were all written separately and out of order from each other, then just smooshed together like it was a high school student's project started the night before. And the dialogue... it just feels so edgy, like a middle school student came up with it (and the voice acting does not make it better; next time, please get better microphones). I can't make sense of what's going on and I barely care to because of the characters.

I don't care about a single character in this film. I kinda wished they lost the battle to Mist, the antagonist, but that makes it sound like I care about Mist too. The main character, Paige, is just.. I don't know, she's just there. The only "struggle" she went through is coping with her physical disability, and that's only barely in the beginning. First she's disabled as a child (I think??) and years later, all of a sudden she's not. And that is such a disgusting way to write a disabled character, what was the director thinking? If he used that "plot point" to make me feel bad for her, I don't. She doesn't have a real personality and I wished for her downfall. There's her sister, Pillow. She exists. Then there's her friend group. They also exist. ...Anyway, then there's Mist, I have no idea who Mist is, and I've watched this movie twice (not on the director's channel, I did not want to give him views, I watched it on a livestream instead). He just keeps talking and talking and talking, and yet I still don't know why he's trying to take over the drawing world. He just feels like this child whining about some people making fun of him. But at least he utilizes drawing/art styles relevant in the plot...so he's pretty much better than Paige. But it would've been awesome to see different art styles play out in a way that builds up the setting and establishes the characters' powers. For example: Paige's art style is cartoon-y, so these wacky characters pop out of thin air and annoys Mist with these brightly colored weapons and cute sound effects, and how Mist's art style is much more serious, so maybe it overpowers Paige's cartoon style - I don't know, the powers in this movie feel underwhelming. But moving on from the main characters....the """funny""" side characters, mainly the tooth and the pirate child-thing. I hate them. I know they're supposed to be the annoying comic relief but i had to mute my computer when they were talking. They feel like a waste of time, and they're not the worst characters...

It's the self-insert for me. I've seen a bunch of fanfiction and questionable movies that obviously had the authors insert themselves that I'm just numb to it by now. But it seems like this "character" took the role of the main protagonist a few times, and I felt this second-hand shame when he was written like a child's first OC. He's the self-proclaimed "most powerful drawing", he gives the "inspirational" speeches, he's written to be cool and calm and collected with no visible flaws. I would have overlooked the self-insert if he was actually a character, with somewhat of an interesting backstory and actual flaws. But no, he's overpowered to the point where he gets this sudden Dragon Ball Z final form with no proper development. It's a little embarrassing to see, especially since it's written and pushed by a guy in his 20s. I'd be much more forgiving if this all was just some fun silly comic or animation, but since this director has stated this movie is "on the level of Disney and Dreamworks" and "better than The Amazing Digital Circus", then I'm going to hold it up to that standard. And I can say that this movie does not even hold a candle to projects like theirs, and the self-insert just puts the icing on the clown cake.

And the songs, they're.. I can't even say anything. I'm just speechless, and not in a good way. They come out of nowhere and just grate my ears.

I still cannot believe this is genuine. It has to be some sort of elaborate joke made to draw out hate watching and clout, and if it is, then I'll gladly say that I was wrong about this director and call this movie a masterful joke. But I think I'm wrong here, considering how he defended his movie so hard on Twitter and complained about it not getting enough views.

So if this "artwork" is genuine... It's not good. I'm sorry, it's not. I appreciate the time the staff put into this, but it is terrible. If you want to spread a message, let go of your anger first, then start making the movie. This could have been good with proper script reviewing, more time spent on the 3D animation, and even just taking a breather. Don't take it so seriously, trying so hard to prove a point, and have fun with it, like all the other family movies (the good ones, anyway). I admire the bravery it took for them to put this out there, because sharing your art is not easy to do, but I was struggling trying to get through this.

TLDR; It's not a good movie. Its quality doesn't come close to Disney or The Amazing Digital Circus, and the director should feel ashamed for even trying to compare this to them. It could've been better if it was more fleshed out and it had potential. I felt second-hand embarrassment watching this, and I hope the creator takes this as a lesson to improve upon his skills. Thank you.

This movie is very bad
natel-9254127 February 2024
Here is a list of movies better than this: 1. Food fight 2. The Emoji movie 3. Norm of the north 4. Ratatoing 5. A cars life: Sparky's Big Adventure 6. Hoodwinked 2 7. Chop Kick Panda 8. Life's a jungle: Africa's most wanted 9. Eight Crazy Nights 10. Bug Bites: An Ant's Life 11. Pinocchio: A True Story 12. The Little Panda Fighter 13. Titanic: The Legend Goes On 14. Marmaduke (the one from 2022) By now you've probably noticed that all these films are terrible but at least they don't start 10 times over in the first 4 minutes. I think you see the point I'm trying to make here. This was a very bad film.

This is trash.
o-182141 March 2024
After reviewing this film, I have concluded that my faith in humanity has conclusively disappeared. I am deeply wounded and I believe I need psychiatric counseling to help me circumvent this horrible experience before I do it myself. The movie has no plot line whatsoever, and is basically a jumbo mess of horrible acting. It claims to be a kids film, but I advocate that it is unsuitable for both children and adults respectively. This film is absolutely violent, and the gore is unbearable. Similarly, the repetitions make this movie a 10 hour loop, providing no satisfaction whatsoever to the audience. Frankly, in conclusion this movie should be classified as a war crime atop the Holocaust or the chemical weapons used by Japan during WWII. My colleague, a psychiatrist, who I showed this movie to even went as far as saying this is a danger to public mental and physical health. In his words, he said, "The government needs to block this movie. It is a danger to society and will induce depression and brain rotting content of its intended audience. It's a felony analogous to Ted Bundy." To conclude, this is a horrible movie and I do not suggest anybody watch this film.

Warning: Spoilers
Absolutely one of the worst films I've ever seen, and I both love and hate it. I hate the Italian/German kid, all the humans, the editing, Calobi Productions, most of the voice acting, the incoherent story, most of the weird music, and atrocious dialogue. The villain's motive makes as little sense as it could, several characters appear once and then never again, the message is preachy as heck, and the film as a whole cannot help but feel like a personal vendetta. It seems like Calobi was insulted several times both in school and online; he spends the 'film' complaining about the "cutthroat economy," "underpaid artists," and a boy whom the main character had ignored in high school. Hmmmm.... I *love* the beat-boxing puppy, my darling, the hilarious editing, the bizarre "wrist water on my neck," "SHUT THE FLUFF UP," "mOiStY," German boy's incoherent screaming, the clearly AI blonde dude, the sound effects, Calobi Productions' blown-out mic, and the fight scenes. First, beat-boxing puppy is life. There are several moments which kill me with laughter, such as: Mist being swallowed by the flying whale, the stick figure being knocked out of the sky, Pillow lightly slapping Page into the ground, the AI blondie's generated movements, and many, many more.

I both love and loathe this 'movie.' It is impossible to understand most of it, and I either enjoy or hate the parts that vaguely made sense. In short: this is my favorite and most hated fever dream.

Tf does "wrist water on my neck" mean? Felt like I was high or smth watching this.

Stick figure was the best character by far.

Everything was just out together, it was out've context and confusing.

The random awfully written songs?

Overstimulation for days istg. Even my younger sister thought it was horrendous.

Kurtis definitely did the best review on this 💪

"I believe I am on the level of Disney and Dreamworks" absolutely not.

And 6 years? Someone could make this movie with more context, better graphics, songs and voice acting in around 2 years at most.

Also, why didn't they just hire an american child to voice Paige in the beggining?

Cringe, there's no other word for it. This makes me cringe, it's embarrassing.

Warning: Spoilers
Never had I thought that something as incoherent as Tentaclino could ever exist. Until today. "Our Drawings" not only rivals the infamous movie, it challenges it. The story's pacing feels like an entire tv series worth was compressed into a hour long special. It's simultaneously borderline impossible to follow, but also shockingly brain dead simple. There is no plot. Characters just dip in and out of reality with different personalties. There is no exploration or even a "helpful explanation" of how this drawing magic works and all the worlds that these characters explore are insipid and lifeless. The characters are just like the animation: stiff, ugly, flat, and boring. There are moments where the animation does become more interesting and dynamic, but even then, they are seconds-long and it's still steeped in mediocrity. But the worst aspect of this movie is the dialogue. Oh lord the dialogue. At its best, the dialogue is "the Room" levels of ironic comedy. But at its worst (and it's often in this hourlong "movie") what the characters say is mind numbingly bizarre nonsense. Calling it schizophrenic, would be an affront to people with schizophrenia as this is even more incoherent. Characters just shout words without any rhyme or reason. And it's also a musical...

In the end, the ultimate irony of this supposed exercise in creativity is that "Our Drawings" is creatively bankrupt. "Our Drawings" has no clue what it wants to be. It looks like one of those cheap kids' shows but characters are drinking and cursing and the themes are very adult-oriented. So it's not for kids. But it's also very shallow and Incoherent, so it's not for adults either. Animation enthusiasts won't touch this due to how hideous the animation looks. So ultimately, "Our Drawings" are for no one.

Greatest movie I have ever watched
lambchopbb29 April 2024
Genuinely the best movie I have ever scene.it is cinematic and thought provoking making me think about the artistic ideas and processes that go into every piece of media I consume. Also I edged to the wizard for his entire screen time in the first half and when he reappeared in the second half I busted and it went all over the place. All the characters are super bad making this movie the perfect thing to edge to granting me that and the thought provoking plot each time. Since I am required to edge 12 hours a day to keep my peak male form I have already watched the movie 36 times leading me to positively say it is the greatest movie oat and that if you disagree you must be from Ohio or something.

Um, what?
Media_guru10 March 2024
What is the plot of this movie you may ask? The answer is that there barely is one and it truly doesn't matter anyway. One hour of total nonsense, this film seems like a middle schoolers' D grade film project.

Viewership has quite likely been propelled my numerous negitive commentary videos by popular Youtubers. Those who love "hate watching" pressed play hoping for a perposperous treat, but the majority of it is so boring, the fun dwindles even before the half-way point.

The plot is inconsistant, the editing lazy and slowed to burn time in order to make the 60 minute mark. The sound is subpar. When watching, one who was raised to be kind to all, may struggle to find something positive to say. "A for effort"?

1 point for the Beatboxing Puppy song Which is both exactly as it sounds and more amazing than you can imagine. The song can be found independently on YouTube and has the same context inside the movie as outside.

This is absolute hot garbage.
randomscenegirl1 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Me and my friend both agree that the people who made this were on some sort of drug. It's a literal fever dream and to be honest, it makes me want to bleach my eyes out with holy water while simultaneously bungee jumping without the rope. I mean, in the first 10 minutes of the movie, a highschool student gets extremely drunk while his friend (I think his name is Joshua) explains that they like to draw while the MC says randomly, "beatboxing puppy!" as a beatboxing puppy walks in and proceeds to beatbox while the art teacher passes out in fatigue. I'd prefer "What's Up: Balloon To The Rescue" over this hot garbage every and any time!

I respect indie creators, but this is an exception
cmnom8 May 2024
Let's be honest, the trailer for this wasn't exactly award-worthy animation. But hey, cut some slack for a small indie team, right? Making movies is hard (especially good ones).

However, where my initial tolerance wanted to give this flick a fighting chance, the red flags unfurled faster than a malfunctioning party popper.

The first clue? The press release boasting a six-year development cycle. Six years? For this? Then came the mentions of "AI" and the explanation follows eerily resembles the one we are facing now phrases that scream "AI-generated script" louder than a robot cheerleader at a malfunctioning cyborg football game.

Dialogue? More like a dialogue disaster. Imagine a broken chat bot fed a script and then rewritten by a toddler after a sugar rush.

Clichés? Don't get me started. This movie had more recycled plot points than a plastic recycling plant.

Inconsistent language? Characters would switch between Shakespearean sonnets and sailor vocabulary faster than you can say "character development?" Forget about it. These cardboard cutouts lacked depth and backstory about as much as a used napkin.

The plot itself? A convoluted mess that left me more confused than a room full of navel-gazing philosophers. Who were these people? What was their motivation? Why should I care? The answers remained as elusive as a coherent sentence in this movie's script.

Look, I appreciate the indie spirit. I truly do. But this is a cautionary tale. Passion can only take you so far. If your movie has animation that makes a flip book look high-tech, dialogue that would make a parrot cringe, and a plot about as clear as mud, maybe take a step back, re-evaluate, and for the love of cinema, ditch the AI scriptwriter.

Small Italian boy is annoying (also teacher died)
ethancoolboi21 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I CANNOT believe the quality of this film. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *swallowed by whale*. The sheer lack of quality in this film rivals that of hit indie game Garten of BanBan 2. Wristwater's on my neck. The film did that to me, somehow. Moisty / 10. Bear in mind, that isn't a good thing as the word moisty is really bad. It's very obvious how every scene is repeated at least 5 times, including the running through the smore land one, repeated about 10 times. This film shows quality over quantity, except it doesn't because it's one hour long. It shows no quality or quantity. It only shows Paige saying moisty and a dead art teacher being swallowed by a flying whale. I was forced to watch this on a discord call and needless to say I'm never getting that time back and I will maybe uninstall discord /J. Small Italian boy screams to get out of this film.

Overall, if you love horrible, atrocious, hate-filling, low effort things, then watch it it's free on youtube. If not, spare yourself I beg of thee.

saoirse-6687027 March 2024
This movie really moved me. From start to finish, I was enraptured. This movie has single-handedly made me re evaluate my entire life and mindset. I am a changed woman. I was so inspired by Paige Foster and her perilous journey of heartbreak and hardships, that I have become an artist. I hope to finish my first piece next week. I hope you can all support me in my journey as a new artist, as is the message in this movie. The message was perfectly and beautifully presented in this movie and it made complete sense while also being vague and intriguing me as the audience. In conclusion, I will leave this quote: "It matters not what you've done, but what you do with what you've done for others."

And my throat, but that's from other things. It was so funny. I really relate to the wizard because i also suffer from being so funny. Right now as im righting this i just can't stop thinking about all the funny moments. Ok dinner time!

This is both a 10 and a 1 star movie the same time.
xszucs25 February 2024
There are not words in any in language thar came close to describing this thing. But is there was it would be moisty. That is it I mean I don't know what I just watched late alone know the words to describe it . This " movie " is like nothing that has ever or will ever happen. This thing kill my and brought me back to life. If you want to die watch this movie but if you value anything don't. But at the some time it is the best thing I have ever sean . It made me laugh a couple times and the story story covers very heavy and real topics like alcoholism , being annoying, being British , being a poor artist I who move out of your parents' house until your 50 , and the struggles of being a bet boxing puppy. No other movie covers those themes.

This movie was the best thing I've watched. All the one star reviews are lying, it's a cinematic masterpiece. The script is flawless, and the story makes you so emotional multiple times through the film. One example of this is when a character said "SHUT the flip off!!" I cried very hard. I really recommend watching it for yourself, but be prepared to bring tissues.

Absolutely something
Willorwey2331 January 2024
This is THE movie of all time. Captivating audiences with its unparalleled blend of gripping storytelling, flawless acting, and groundbreaking cinematography. From the opening scene to the closing credits, every frame is a masterpiece. People dare compare this to The Amazing Digital Circus even though it far surpasses that slop. This movie is a gem in the rough. The ensemble cast delivers performances of unparalleled brilliance, immersing viewers in a world where characters breathe life into the screen. The Nigerian marshmallow, Albert and the beatboxing puppy were by far my absolute favorite characters in this masterpiece of a film. This movie is not just a viewing experience; it's a journey that transcends time and resonates with audiences of various ages and backgrounds.
