The smell is coming from your TV
Christmas-Reviewer8 August 2016
BEWARE OF FALSE REVIEWS & REVIEWERS. SOME REVIEWERS HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW TO THEIR NAME. NOW WHEN ITS A POSITIVE REVIEW THAT TELLS ME THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE MOVIE. IF ITS A NEGATIVE REVIEW THEN THEY MIGHT HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST THE FILM . I HAVE REVIEWED OVER 200 HOLIDAY FILMS. I HAVE NO AGENDA.

What an insult this film is to every person on the face of the earth! Nothing but stereotypes. I have not seen a movie this bigoted since I had to sit through the 1915 version of "Birth of a Nation". Now they made the White Family "SAINTLY". A Korean Liquor store owner rude and nasty. They make the young white kids look like they will become criminals for living among African Americans.

Now every African American Male in this film is a gang remember, homeless or thief.

Why this film was ever made I will never know. Whoever wrote this needs re-think their career! Yes this is a nasty review but this film does nothing right.

What a mess! What an insult! What a Waist Of Time"

Plays more like a Pilot to a TV show
Sober-Friend30 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is not a good film. The writing is terrible. The whole film plays like a TV- pilot to a bad TV-Show. The show is full of stereo- types and offers nothing new. Now I have seen 1 movie a day about Christmas for the past 2 months and this by far was the worse. I will not fault the main actors in this but the supporting actors are BAD. The "gang" members are not scary but laughable. The ending is enough to make you gag on your Eggnog. The reason why this plays like pilot is because many plot lines (to me) go unresolved.

Now if I were an African-American I would be offended on how all them are portrayed in this film. In this film all African Americans are criminals, gang members and have bad influences on white children.

There is nothing good about this film.

Racist, offensive, inappropriate for church
famouslylegit20 December 2015
This was so incredibly racist/offensive. All of the antagonists were African American stereotypes, and where no where near realistic. I don't understand how this is am appropriate movie, let alone a Christian one. Not to mention they also had a lot of "Mexican" stereotypes as well as Asian stereotypes. None of the people I've met have been in, known, or seen people of these ethnicities in any of those situations. Personally, I have seen more poor non-poc fit these descriptions than poc themselves. It is apparent that this movie was written/produced by someone who wasn't a person of color. Even if the movie wasn't so incredibly offensive, the production, plot, and character development is horrible.

Just Don't watch this
Terrible. That is the only word I have for this f-ing mess. I found it stupid and offensive. The white people are all good and the minorities in this film are thief's.

Whoever wrote this should of thought this out better. The idea of this film was "Interesting". A white family moving into a poor urban area to set up a church as place of not only to worship but to be a place of gathering and place that gives people in the neighbor a place to feel safe and welcomed.

The child's parts are so badly written that you feel sorry for the actress playing the part.

If you don't believe me just watch. It is bad well excuse me it is "TERRIBLE"

White People Move In To Save Black People
latanalacks15 July 2017
This film is very insulting to black people. The only films that are more insulting is "Gone with the Wind" and "Birth of a Nation"

The movie is about Noah, a widower, moves his family to a struggling inner city mission. As he and his daughters make their new home livable, they reach out to the neighborhood to bring a glimmer of hope in time for Christmas.

Now every black man in this movie is a gang member or homeless. The Korean store own is rude and the white people are saints that will become hoods if they "Hang out with black folks"

Racist film! Made by someone who has no clue how insensitive this crappy movie is!

Good intentions aren't enough

Movies like this are the reason faith-based movies have such a bad reputation among non-Christian viewers. As other reviewers have noted, racial stereotypes abound--something that may fly over the heads of churchgoers from the heartland, but is definitely noticed by others outside this demographic. There are the usual complaints that come with many low budget "church" movies--bad acting, lousy dialogue, characters with unclear or unrealistic motivations, padding with unnecessary montages of outdoor footage, et al. The elder daughter's arc going from angry and disinterested to caring and compassionate is good, albeit expected. The actors playing the grandmother and the gang leader cousin come out the best, lending weight to some otherwise light proceedings. Without a doubt, the filmmakers wanted to make an inspiring movie about the change that comes when one dedicates their life to Christ. While there's nothing wrong with this goal, the ability to communicate this in a compelling way is hamstrung by a glaring lack of skill or ability, coupled with a case of tunnel vision in regards to how certain characterizations will be perceived. There are a few shining kernels among this effort, but the viewer has to work pretty hard to find them. Most won't go to the trouble.

Sanitized

I have never seen such a ridiculous sanitized version of a "rough neighborhood" in my life. Absolutely comical. What a joke. I'm white and even I'm offended. Insulting to all. I don't know how this movie got made. Do not waste your time. I want to know who the target audience was. Who exactly is this movie supposed to appeal to? It says at the beginning that it's based on true events. I would say very loosely based on true events and that's being generous. Nothing about this movie rings true. Not on any level. It's tone deaf and condescending. Why and how do movies like this get made? It's baffling.

So True to REAL life
rick-11482 November 2018
I found this movie very true to life in most of the major cities in the US. And it's getting worse - pretty brave people moving into the war zones!
