Rod Holcomb, the Emmy-winning ER director, who also helmed episodes of Lost, China Beach, Wolf and The Six Million Dollar Man, has died. He was 80.
Holcomb passed away on Jan. 24 in Los Angeles, after battling a long illness, the Directors Guild of America shared on Friday.
“The DGA deeply mourns the passing of Rod Holcomb — a visionary director whose impact on television direction and the creative rights of television directors cannot be overstated,” DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter said in a lengthy statement. “Rod’s influence as a pilot director on shows like China Beach and ER among many others, resonated deeply with directors and audiences alike, leaving a cultural imprint. Paul Lindsay was a former FBI agent and Vietnam veteran who sought to utilize his investigative and military expertise in creating a series of espionage novels, published under the pseudonym Noah Boyd. Unfortunately, that effort only got as far as a second volume before Lindsay died of leukemia in 2011. The first one has been in feature development since that year, initially as a vehicle for Gerard Butler. It’s Aaron Eckhart instead who assumes the mantle of Jack Reacher-like hero Steve Vail in “The Bricklayer,” a screen translation that appears to take considerable liberties with the source material, likely to take advantage of locations and resources afforded by its multinational funding.
The result, largely set in Greece, is an entertaining thriller that constitutes one of globe-trotting director Renny Harlin’s better recent joints, alongside Chinese productions “Bodies at Rest” and “Skiptrace.” Handled in his best slick, colorful, fast-paced fashion, it...

Nearly 20 years after directing his debut feature, Southie, veteran actor John Shea (Agent X, An Invisible Sign) steps behind the camera again. Once more focusing on the insidious influence of Boston's criminal underworld, Shea assembles many of the requisite elements of a contemporary crime drama, but orchestrates them so chaotically that audiences may be put off by the film's unwelcome onslaught of stale genre techniques.
Shea knows well enough to lead off with an action sequence, as Boston police detective James Doyle (Eric Dane) responds to a 911 call reporting a hostage situation. Along with his partner (and girlfriend) Maggie...

Chicago Fire isn't really subtle about celebrating its hundredth episode.
Chicago Fire Season 5 Episode 8 is called "One Hundred" and its 'B' story involves the 100th anniversary of Molly's.
It's all very on the nose, but that's okay because really this is a party for the show and everyone's invited.
Obviously the big news that everyone will be talking about is that Casey and Dawson have finally married. It's a step that feels almost overdue considering that the ship has been sailing since Chicago Fire Season 1 and the two are already living together and co-parenting. Marriage is about the only thing they haven't done.
This is also a big moment for the fans who have rooted for them all that time, as well as the big happening that you'd expect from any show celebrating a milestone episode.

It seems that people love a good spy story but it remains to be seen if viewers will love TNT's new Agent X TV series. Will it run as long as the James Bond movie series or will it last about as long as George Lazenby did as Bond? Will the show be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
On Agent X, newly elected Vice President Natalie Maccabee (Sharon Stone) learns that there is a secret section in the Us Constitution. It gives the Vice President authority over highly-trained and secret operative, -- in this instance, John Case (Jeff Hephner) -- who can handle sensitive cases that the FBI and the CIA can't. The rest of the cast includes Gerald McRaney, Jamey Sheridan, John Shea, Mike Colter, and James Earl Jones.

TNT has done a lot of renewing and cancelling this week, making some big decisions regarding the fates of many series, including Major Crimes, The Librarians, and Legends. On the renewal side of things, TNT has ordered new seasons of Major Crimes and The Librarians. Major Crimes, which will go on a two-month hiatus following its Dec. 21 episode before returning in February for the final five installments of Season 4, will be entering its fifth season, which will consist of 13 episodes. Meanwhile, The Librarians, whose Season 2 finale airs on Sunday, Dec. 27, has been picked up for a 10-episode third season. Both shows join Murder in the First, which was renewed for Season 3 last month by TNT. Unfortunately, there wasn’t good news for all of the cable network’s series, as three shows were given the axe. In addition to renewing Major Crimes and Librarians, TNT cancelled Legends, Agent X, and Public Morals.

TNT has shaken up its line-up, giving three of its original drama series renewals whilst choosing to cancel three others.
The good news was handed out to "Major Crimes," "The Librarians" and "Murder in the First" which each scored renewals. 'Librarians' and 'Murder' will each score a ten episode third season to screen next year - in the winter and summer respectively.
'Crimes' is getting a smaller order for its fifth season, dropping to 13 episodes which is down from the 19 episodes of its second and third and the super-size 23 episode order for its fourth season which the network will still be burning through in February/March next year.
Not faring so well were the Sean Bean-led "Legends," Ed Burns' period cop drama "Public Morals," and the Sharon Stone-led spy drama "Agent X". All three have been effectively cancelled due to low ratings - each pulling well under...

TNT has renewed “The Librarians,” “Major Crimes,” and “Murder in the First,” TheWrap has learned. In addition, freshman series “Agent X” and “Public Morals” were canceled, along with sophomore series “Legends.” “Agent X” featured Sharon Stone playing the Vice President, while “Public Morals” was created by and starred Eddie Burns. “Legends,” which starred Sean Bean, followed a deep cover operative who can transform himself into other people for each new assignment. Based on TNT’s movie franchise, “The Librarians” centers on an ancient organization dedicated to protecting the world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around. TNT is doing some housecleaning today. Along with officially renewing The Librarians, Murder in the First and Major Crimes, the network also has cancelled Legends, Public Morals and Agent X. Sharon Stone is making the jump from movie star to TV with her leading role on “Agent X.” The TNT spy drama stars Stone as Vice President Natalie Maccabee, who pledges to protect the nation “against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” and comes to realize that means the exclusive command of a secret operative for missions too sensitive for either the FBI or CIA. “I just think television kind of has more to offer right now,” the Oscar-nominated actress explained in an interview with TheWrap ahead of the TNT drama’s two-hour premiere on Sunday. “Good film parts are less and less common,...

Rare is the action series that seeks to answer a genuinely good question. For instance, why does the Vice President seem to have no real job? TNT’s new action drama “Agent X” offers one possible answer: The VP’s real job is to do the government’s dirtiest work in secret so that the president can enjoy some plausible deniability. It’s a clever idea, but as if desperately in need of a sort of viewer insurance policy, “Agent X” is structured a bit like your average case-of-the-week serial, replete with long shoot-out scenes, hostage scenarios and some flirty repartee between two hot.

There’s a lot to love about TV’s new Agent X. He’s smart, loyal, handsome, resilient and a little bit sloppy, but that’s his appeal. He’s not the stuffy Bond type. Much of that can be attributed to the charisma of the man playing Agent X, Jeff Hephner, whose Midwest charm and kick-butt wit definitely show through. TNT’s action/drama series debuts Sunday, Nov. 9 at 9pmET. “[The show] doesn’t take itself too seriously because, God knows, I don’t,” Hephner says. “I’m from Michigan and I’m playing this guy as if he’s from Michigan, and there’s a low-key-ness that I relate to … Continue reading →

When it was announced that TNT had expanded Major Crimes Season 4 to a series-high 23 episodes, the news was met with a mixed reaction — equal parts “Yea!” and “Hold on just a minute, is this the end?”
But to those fretting that TNT was giving the crime drama a warm kiss goodbye, series creator James Duff maintains, “That’s not at all the case.” Rather, he suspects, the cabler was “looking to have some original content on the air in February, and they had not much to choose from at the time.”

If next week is any barometer, TNT is about to become Spy TV — for better and for worse. For better, as my video review above says, is the almost totally revamped Legends. Sharon Stone's son is all grown up! The actress stepped out for the premiere of her new series "Agent X" in West Hollywood on Tuesday night and brought along a very adorable plus one -- her son Laird Stone. The 57-year-old beauty stunned in a sheer blouse, which she paired with a blazer and satin trousers. She finished the look with black pumps and a long red and gold pendant necklace. The star's 10-year-old son looked dapper in a blue suit jacket, red tie and a pair of sneakers as he cozied up to his famous mom on the red carpet. We rarely get to see the actress out with her kids, so this is a real treat! The "Basic Instinct" star adopted her middle son back in 2005 and is also mom to 15-year-old Roan Bronstein, who she adopted with ex-husband Phil Bronstein. She also has 9-year-old Quinn Stone.

Following their successful collaboration on "Behind the Candelabra," HBO and Steven Soderbergh are re-teaming again for an experimental film called "Mosaic".
Further details are under wraps for now, other than Soderbergh directing, Sharon Stone and Garrett Hedlund starring, and the project boasting a script by Ed Solomon.
The Playlist hears that Soderbergh will shoot multiple versions of different scenes and let the viewer decide what the outcome will be via an app. The filmmaker has reportedly been working on the development of the app technology for five years with the project's producer Casey Silver/
Soderbergh says in a statement: "I believe the good people at HBO are genuinely enthusiastic about Mosaic for two reasons: first, it represents a fresh way of experiencing a story and sharing that experience with others; second, it will require a new Emmy category, and we will be the only eligible nominee."
