In the vast realm of Marvel Comics and among the plethora of enticing and intriguing characters, Thor, the God of Thunder, occupies a separate place and fan base. Known for his larger-than-life, regal personality, the comic version vastly differs from Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Chris Hemsworth in and as Thor
Fans have for years pointed out how the MCU took away the gravitas and depth of Thor by making him more humane and humorous, almost as if he was a parody of the comic book character. Hemsworth, in a new vulnerable and pretty intimate interview, revealed how he felt the same way about Thor.

In the Marvel Comics, when All-Father Odin first dubbed Thor as the God of Thunder, it was an ironic moniker, as the young crown prince of Asgard was terrified of thunderstorms as a child. Over time, Thor would go on to thoroughly earn this title after his life-altering exile in Midgard (Earth), explored in a milder capacity in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor," which cemented the character's irreplaceable status in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Hemsworth's rendition of the character, when contrasted to its comic counterpart, emerges as delightfully layered: Hemsworth's Thor is a mixture of sincere self-seriousness and dorky obliviousness, with equal parts strength and vulnerability contributing to an extremely likable superhero persona. Despite the character's godlike status, Thor's presence in the MCU almost had a grounding effect, where complexity and levity went hand in hand to steer stories that brimmed with grit and heart.

Chris Hemsworth has once again reflected on his role in the poor reception to Thor: Love and Thunder, shouldering the blame for leaning too much into the extreme silliness of the film.
In a new cover story with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth explained, “I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.”
The star of the Thor franchise previously spoke about the fourth installment with GQ last year, detailing his worry that the movie may have been “too silly,” prompting him to “do some other stuff for a while.”
In the interview with Vanity Fair, it’s clear Hemsworth’s feelings on the subject have only continued to solidify since then — but he’s torn between his desire to be “taken seriously” by directors like Greta Gerwig and Steven Spielberg, while also believing that “he owes the...

Chris Hemsworth doesn’t love “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
In a new Vanity Fair profile, the Australian actor criticized his performance in the 2022 Marvel movie, his fourth outing as the hammer-wielding superhero Thor. And he’d like to do another “Thor” movie to make up for it.
“Love and Thunder” was the followup to 2017’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” which is widely considered to be the best “Thor” movie and one of the best Marvel movies overall. Both films are directed by Taika Waititi, who brought his playful, improv-heavy style of comedy to the franchise. But while “Ragnarok” is beloved for its sense of humor, Hemsworth thinks “Love and Thunder” took it too far.

According to the origin of Marvel’s Thor, the All-Father Odin sends his son to Earth to learn humility. It sounds like Thor actor Chris Hemsworth has had to do the same thing.
Hemsworth’s Thor was riding high going into 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, following 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, which won over fans who dismissed his first two solo outings, as well as the strong emotional arc in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. But for many, Love and Thunder pushed the wacky sensibilities of writer/director Taika Waititi too far, resulting in a movie too glib to be funny. And Hemsworth agrees.
“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” the Aussie actor recently admitted to Vanity Fair. “I didn’t stick the landing.”
It’s easy to see why Hemsworth leaned so far into Waititi’s style for Love and Thunder.

Just before Avengers: Infinity War, many were pleased at the new life breathed into the Thor series when What We Do in the Shadows director Taika Waititi took on the undertaking of a big-budget franchise film. Thor: Ragnarok was a massive hit and it seemed like this new direction was a welcomed one for the God of Thunder. After Thor’s arc in the Infinity Saga seemingly concluded in Avengers: Endgame, it looked like some strange new adventures were on the horizon as he joined up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Then, Thor: Love and Thunder would bring back Waititi and an impressive cast for what would ultimately have a less-than-stellar reception.

When Taika Waititi released “Thor: Ragnarok” in 2017, the refreshingly comedic take on God Of Thunder was overwhelmingly well received, with fans loving the more irreverent take on the Norse God. Most critics and fans still consider it the best “Thor” film. However, the same cannot be said about 2022’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which left a bad taste in the mouth of the same franchise enthusiasts— its humor dialed up far too wacky and extreme for most.

Chris Hemsworth is still wincing at the reception of Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
The actor looked back on the goofily disappointing 2022 Marvel movie in a new profile in Vanity Fair.
“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” Hemsworth said. “I didn’t stick the landing.”
The profile noted that Hemsworth feels like he owes fans another Thor movie due to the fourth film’s reception.
The 40-year-old is perhaps being a bit hard on himself (something he admits he’s prone to do), given the film’s creative direction was largely driven by its co-writer and director, Taika Waititi, who previously led the Thor franchise to what’s universally considered its best film, 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Also, while Love and Thunder might never be a fan favorite, it still grossed $760 million at the box office and has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 63 percent,...

Chris Hemsworth has expressed his disappointment at Thor: Love And Thunder, and there are hints that he may reprise the Thor role one more time.
Released in 2022, Thor: Love And Thunder didn’t do too badly for Marvel Studios – in fact, compared to 2023 offerings Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels, its $760m box office sounds downright rosy.
One person who wasn’t entirely happy with the superhero sequel, though – or at least his performance in it – was its star, Chris Hemsworth. Less than two years after Love And Thunder emerged in cinemas, Hemsworth has suggested he “didn’t stick the landing.”
Hemsworth’s comments have emerged in a glossy feature for Vanity Fair magazine – one of those pieces where the actor’s interviewed in their home surroundings with the words accompanied by pictures of them relaxing in baggy jumpers and cardigans.

Thor: Love and Thunder had all the makings of the best Marvel Studios movie ever. Heavily inspired by Jason Aaron's Thor run and featuring both The Mighty Thor and Gorr the God Butcher, the sequel has a lot going for it.
Among those plus points was Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. He'd successfully reinvented the God of Thunder in that 2017 blockbuster and fans were excited to see what came next. Unfortunately, the result was a movie which largely disappointed fans and let down both its new and returning characters.
Waititi, who was given perhaps too much freedom with Thor: Love and Thunder, has largely shrugged off the complaints. Chris Hemsworth, however, has addressed them head-on and doesn't shy away from acknowledging where the movie fell short.

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a strange time for the franchise. The post-"Avengers: Endgame" era saw Kevin Feige and co. trying to shepherd the concept of the multiverse into our collective consciousness while simultaneously introducing a host of new heroes and somewhat reinventing the MCU for a new generation. Much of it worked well, with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" holding things down on the cinematic front. Meanwhile, "WandaVision" and "Hawkeye" made a good case for the McU's streaming age being a good development — a case that was later ruined by the poorly-reviewed "Secret Invasion."
But for every good entry in Phase 4, there was a "Thor: Love and Thunder" or a "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" to undermine them. Thankfully, Phase 4 will always remain beloved for introducing us to one of the best arguments for the MCU expanding into the world of streaming television: "Loki.

Mark Ruffalo has been playing the role of Bruce Banner a.k.a Hulk in the MCU since The Avengers. The actor replaced Edward Norton after his appearance in The Incredible Hulk. Since then, Ruffalo has appeared in all the Avengers films, as well as Thor: Ragnarok and the Disney Plus series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
While the actor has been an irreplaceable part of the Og Avengers, he is one of the few to not receive a solo outing yet. The MCU has also not explored much more dangerous and scarier versions of the Hulk, who has gone berzerk multiple times in the comics. Fans especially want Kevin Feige to introduce Maestro, who was already seen in the game Marvel’s Avengers.

By the time you’ve inched toward the halfway point of the first episode of Shōgun, the epic new limited series that revisits James Clavell’s 1975 doorstopper of a historical novel about early 1600s Japan, you’ve already seen an eyeful: massive schooners, flashing swords, military processions, political power plays, a father and his infant son sentenced to death, a half-dozen English prisoners awaiting their fate in a pit. And then, out of nowhere, a character rides in on horseback. He’s shot from behind, but there’s something about the way he holds himself,...

When discussing MCU characters, our focus often gravitates towards the Avengers and prominent villains. However, the MCU owes much of its success to secondary characters whose roles significantly influence the storyline.

Bruce Timm’s pioneering work with DC’s animated shows is a shining example of adaptations done correctly. While TV shows and movies are the main source of entertainment today, back then people were heavily into comic books. Adapting from that material is hard as it is, but keeping it fun for an audience who already knows the direction where your show is going can be even more difficult. And some fans love to spoil those who are new to the genre, flaunting their knowledge.

About over 30 projects are currently in development when it comes to MCU, slated for release in the next two years, with ‘Thor 5’ among them, according to increasingly loud whispers. Recently, Taika Waititi addressed the possibility of directing the fifth installment of the God of Thunder’s saga in the MCU, casually brushing it off, indicating it’s not on his current agenda.
Fans breathed a collective sigh of relief at his statement. ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is widely regarded as the franchise’s pinnacle, with Taika masterfully blending humor and depth. However, some fans feel that ‘Love & Thunder’ veered off course during development. The film seemed to go overboard on many fronts, lacking a cohesive narrative and landing some jokes in questionable taste, leading to a perception of it being more of a parody than a serious superhero film.
It appears that the studio has taken note of the feedback from ‘Love & Thunder.

"Men in Black" is a bit of a strange franchise. For instance: did you know there are actually four movies in the series? I bet you completely memory-holed the 2019 movie "Men in Black: International," but it exists! Hell, you might have even checked out after the disappointing "Men in Black II" and not realized there was a "Men in Black III." And yet, the original "Men in Black," released in 1997, is a near-perfect movie. It blends humor, heart, and incredible visual effects to craft a memorable blockbuster that still holds up to this day. The basic set-up of all the film is the same: a secret government agency known as the Men in Black police outer space alien activity here on Earth. Tom Hiddleston is reflecting on 14 years of portraying Loki in Marvel films and television shows and admits he isn’t sure whether he’ll return to the role.
The actor stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday to promote the news that his series, The Night Manager, was returning for two more seasons after taking an eight-year break. While on the late night show, the host asked Hiddleston if he knew when he was cast in the role of Loki that he would be playing him for as long as he has.
“I had no idea, and every time someone says that [it’s been 14 years], it kind of blows my mind because when I was cast in 2009, I was 28, and I’m 43 now, and that’s a big chunk of my adult life I’ve been playing this amazing character,” the Thor star said. “It’s changed the course of my life completely.

"Borderlands" is one of the most popular video game franchises of the 2000s. Now, it's becoming a movie, with Lionsgate hoping to turn it into a franchise for the big screen. Directed by Eli Roth, this video game adaptation has been in the works for a long, long time, but it's finally hitting theaters this summer. That being the case, the studio brought some new footage from the film to this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and I was on hand to see what Roth cooked up.
One thing the movie has going for it is a stellar A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett ("Thor: Ragnarok") as Lilith. The ensemble also includes Jack Black ("The Super Mario Bros. Movie"), Kevin Hart ("Lift"), Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween"), Ariana Greenblatt ("Barbie"), Florian Munteanu ("Creed II"), and Edgar Ramirez ("Yes Day"). The ‘unremarkable sequel’ was something the Marvel Cinematic Universe found difficult to shake off in its initial phases. Thinking back to films like Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World could bring back memories of botched character arcs and poor commercial and critical scores. However, all that changed when Anthony and Joe Russo presented their Captain America sequel to the world, leaving the MCU worse than they found it if recent criticisms are to be believed.
Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson in Captain America: The Winter Soldier
By no means is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, now 10 years old, a bad film. Fantastic Four has found its Silver Surfer. Julia Garner will play a version the classic character, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
WandaVision director Matt Shakman is directing the feature, which stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. The film has a release date of July 25, 2025, and is rumored to take place in the 1960s, the era in which writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby first introduced the Fantastic Four, the super team that launched the Marvel Universe in comics. Eric Pearson, known for Black Widow and Thor: Ragnarok, is the current writer on the film.
The Silver Surfer was introduced in in Fantastic Four No. 48 as the herald of Galactus, a planet-eating entity, though that version of the Surfer was an alien astronomer known as Norrin Radd.

It began with 2008’s “Iron Man,” a film that introduced the world to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark with the hint that he could be part of something greater. Thirty-two films later, the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still being told, albeit with various tributaries and detours that introduce new characters and new worlds that may or may not cross paths one day. Each film in the MCU stands on its own to some degree, but like building blocks, they all connect as part of one interconnected universe. And in that way, watching the Marvel movies in order tells one grand story.

Taika Waititi is a prolific director who created one of the best Marvel movies to date, aka Thor: Ragnarok. Yet his next venture into the Marvel Cinematic Universe turned out to be one of the most debatable entries of the entire superhero verse. Thor: Love and Thunder, although based on the comics, had some polar opposite reviews, while some found the silliness and goofiness of the movie fun others criticized it for being too tacky.

Marvel fans, too, jumped on the wagon to blame Watiti’s aversiveness to the character of Thor as the reason why the movie was so bad. But if Anthony Mackie’s new interview has some weight, it means all the criticism surrounding Love and Thunder being unlike the comics was for nothing.

Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk had one of the most stagnant character arcs in the MCU, despite the hero being a crucial part of the Avengers team. While behind-the-scenes issues played a major part in the MCU’s failure to explore this character, even solving those issues may no longer help Hulk’s story. The universe has already introduced another superhero dealing with multiple personality disorder — Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight — which undermines the Hulk’s defining characteristic from the comics.

When you think of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you might not think of improvisation as being central to its success. In fact, extemporaneous additions seem like the complete opposite of Kevin Feige's approach to establishing his gargantuan blockbuster franchise. The Marvel Studios head and his cohorts meticulously plan out each so-called "phase" of the MCU, carefully charting a course for their cinematic saga ahead of time.
Recently, however, this approach hasn't worked so well, with Feige and co. bombarding us with Marvel media, ultimately proving that too much of the MCU is essentially the franchise's Kryptonite. But for a long time, the plan was very much working. The Marvel machine was churning out hit after hit, with "Avengers: Endgame" and its record-breaking box office marking the apex of Marvel Studios' success. In that sense, deviating from the plan just doesn't seem to fit with the MCU ethos. But improvisation...

Back when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was still in development, Neil Gaiman was brought on board to develop an animated Thor series which would have led into the first movie.
The writer revealed this on Tumblr when a fan asked him if he’d like to work on Thor if Marvel asked.

He has been playing the role of Doctor Strange in the MCU since 2016 and has been featured as the character in multiple films.
However, the Sorcerer Supreme was not the first role that he was offered in the Marvel franchise.
