Another remake of classic – make that two classics – is headed to Netflix, as the streaming giant has just released the teaser for The Wages of Fear, first made in 1953 and later most notably remade by William Friedkin with 1977’s Sorcerer.
In the trailer, we see an explosion and the chaos of the aftermath, with a voice saying, “There is a gas pocket feeding the flames. To put it out, we need to blow it up.” This sets up the plot of The Wages of Fear, which finds a team driving to the location in trucks filled with nitro…and they’re on a timeline of just 24 hours.
Helmed by action director Julien Leclercq, The Wages of Fear looks to bring a lot more of his trademark action to the screen than its predecessors. Henri-Georges Clouzot’s original The Wages of Fear (Le Salaire de la peur) is, as far as I’m concerned,...

It’s hard to imagine nowadays, but humans weren’t always at the top of the food chain. And with our ancestors being preyed upon by larger mammals and even our fellow humanoids, it stands to reason that we’d develop a generalized fear of the dark. That’s why it makes sense that cold places where the sun doesn’t routinely rise are naturally suited for spooky stories.
This is precisely what showrunner Issa López had in mind when she came up with HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, a brand-new murder mystery that returns the anthology show to its horrific roots. And with new episodes dropping weekly, we’ve decided to help viewers get an additional fix of frigid frights by recommending six arctic thrillers to watch after Td: Night Country.
As usual, don’t forget to comment below with your own arctic favorites if you think we missed a particularly spooky one.

Liam Neeson will return for the icy vehicular thriller sequel, The Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky, and filming is set to begin in Australia shortly.
Released in 2021, The Ice Road wasn’t necessarily the best entry in Liam Neeson’s action-thriller phase, but it did feature Laurence Fishburne as a character named Jim Goldenrod, which is one of those things we remember in idle moments from time to time.
About a group of truckers who set off down a frozen highway in the hope of rescuing workers from a collapsed diamond mine, The Ice Road received middling reviews, but was evidently a success for the companies that streamed it – the film was hosted by Netflix in the US and Amazon Prime in the UK.
It was so successful, in fact, that the sequel was hungrily snapped up at 2023’s Cannes Film Festival by Amazon Prime – that purchase was said to be worth $17m,...

Cello, the under-the-radar English and Arabic-language horror movie shot in Saudi Arabia by Saw filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman received its world premiere this week at the Muvi Cinema in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Oscar winner Jeremy Irons (House of Gucci) and Saw star Tobin Bell lead the cast alongside Syrian actor Samer Ismail (The Day I Lost My Shadow) and Saudi actress Elham Ali (Ashman) in the story of an aspiring cellist who learns that the cost of his brand-new cello is a lot more insidious than he first thought.
The film was written by Turki Alalshikh, the current Chairman of the General Authority for Entertainment of Saudi Arabia. The film was produced by Rozam Media, Alamiya, and Envision Media Arts. Producers report the film has pre-sold over 15,000 tickets for the upcoming opening weekend in the Arab region. The pic will debut stateside on December 8.
The Saudi premiere was attended by Bousman and producer Lee Nelson (The Ice Road). Others in attendance included stars Elham Ali, Samer Ismail, Suad Abdullah, Ibrahim Samman, Muhanad Al-Hamdi, Fahad Alqahtani, Baraa Alem, and Ghassan Massoud as well as co-producer Raul Talwar and executive producer Niko Ruokosuo.
“Getting to experience the movie in Riyadh with a packed audience was surreal. I have been so lucky in my career to shoot all over the world, and Cello took me to Saudi Arabia, Prague & Ireland,” Bousman said following the debut screening.
“It was such a fantastical adventure getting to work and play in such different and unique areas. We had the great fortune to work with superstars of the Arab region. Then, add Jeremy Irons and Tobin Bell into the mix it & was a once in a lifetime experience.”
Nelson added: “The production was comprised of an international team of artists from all over the world. Our 250-person crew came from the United States, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Canada, Italy, Egypt, Africa, India, Ireland, Tunisia, Jordan, Dubai, and the UK. It was such a humbling experience to be at the center of so many talented people at the top of their trade. It was a truly global collaboration.”...

Liam Neeson isn’t done with the action game just yet. The star who found a second career in his twilight years as a man with particular sets of skills is getting the most out of his time while his body allows him. Exclusive: The biggest deal thrashed out so far at this year’s Cannes market is nearing completion with Amazon Prime Video set to pre-buy international rights — excluding Germany — to Liam Neeson action sequel Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky in a pact pegged around $17M.
Deal isn’t done but is heading that way, we understand from market sources. Germany has sold in a separate multi-million dollar pact to a different buyer.
The project will see the evergreen Neeson headed back to treacherous and frozen terrain, this time swapping out The Ice Road‘s harsh climbs of Northern Canada for the similarly inhospitable mountains of Nepal.
The Solution Entertainment Group is handling international sales. CAA Media Finance is repping U.S. rights. The Solution, CAA and Amazon all declined to comment.

Seth MacFarlane and Akiva Schaffer are officially courting actor Liam Neeson for ‘Naked Gun’ remake.
The ‘Taken’ actor is in talks to lead the modern version of the ’80s slapstick film, Variety confirms, reports ‘Variety’.
Schaffer, the ‘Chip an Dale: Rescue Rangers’ filmmaker and Lonely Island member, will direct and executive produce the movie.
Schaffer penned the screenplay with “Chip an Dale” writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are producing through their company Fuzzy Door.
Neeson sparked chatter online about reviving the ’80s comedy earlier this year, telling “People (The TV Show)” that McFarlane and Paramount had been pursuing him to resurrect the ‘Naked Gun’ films. However, the actor has still yet to sign on the dotted line.
“It’ll either finish my career or bring it in another direction. I honestly don’t know,” Neeson told “People (The TV Show)”.

Amber Midthunder has signed with CAA for representation amid a breakout year following her performance in the hit Hulu film “Prey.”
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, Hulu touted the “Predator” prequel — the fifth film in the action-thriller franchise — as its most-watched TV or movie premiere ever. Set in the Comanche Nation in 1717, the project also marked a major cultural moment for Indigenous representation, both for the industry and for Midthunder, who is an enrolled tribal member at the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Indian Reservation. In the film, Midthunder plays Naru, a young warrior fighting to save her tribe from a Predator. After earning critical and audience raves for her performance, she was named to Variety’s annual 10 Actors to Watch list.
Before booking “Prey,” Midthunder starred opposite Liam Neeson and Laurence Fishburne in Jonathan Hensleigh’s “The Ice Road” for Netflix. She also produced and starred in “The Wheel,” which...

Some folks might have wondered if they were watching the right movie when The Ice Road starts off since it begins in the depths of a diamond mine in Katka where a foreman notes that the methane detector is turned off, which is a huge no-no for those working underground. The film, currently in production in Atlanta, will implement Trioscope’s proprietary technology that blends live-action with CG, underscoring the fascination and controversy surrounding the city’s street takeovers — also known as “sideshows.”
Garrett portrays Sheriff ‘Herc’ Hitchens, public enemy #1 in the takeover community. Prey is the fifth installment in the Predator franchise (and seventh if you count the two Alien vs. Predator films). It’s also easily the third best in the series by default, following the original Predator and 2010’s underrated Predators. The bar is, admittedly, fairly low for this series, which is marked by pretty unwatchable entries like Shane Black’s 2018 The Predator and 1990’s Predator 2 (although some Den of Geek staff keep threatening to write a re-appreciation of the latter). Nevertheless, we’re pleased to say that Prey takes an approach that is both fresh and back to basics with this material, making a solid, suspenseful thriller while scaling back any ambitions that have sunk past films.
For one thing, Prey takes the franchise back to nature, in this case a forest and plains, which is where it belongs. The best Predator films work in such an environment, whether...

Despite the month-long training for tomahawk fight sequences and wading through glacial Albertan river waters in traditional buckskin, for Amber Midthunder, a good gauge of the commitment to onscreen accuracy of Indigenous lives in the late 1700s in the new film Prey came down to how her character would brush her teeth.
“Dan [Trachtenberg, the film’s director] at one point said, ‘Did people brush their teeth [back then]? Like how did that work?’ ” recalls the actress. Luckily, Prey producer Jhane Myers, a member of the Comanche Nation, provided the production with thick binders of reference materials and research and knew how to make a period-accurate toothbrush, which Midthunder can be seen using onscreen. This level of dedication is particularly notable given the fact that Prey isn’t a hyperrealistic period drama in the vein of The Revenant — it’s the fifth installment in the Predator franchise.

Even without the family Christmas presents of throwing axes, Amber Midthunder was born to be an action star. Her father, David Midthunder, is an actor and stunt performer whose recent credits include “1883” and “Dark Winds”; mom Angelique Midthunder is the casting director of “Reservation Dogs.” The youngest Midthunder started working on screen when she was four (her first role: “Little Girl”) and, more recently, she’s had lead roles on TV series “Roswell, New Mexico” and “Legion” and parts in films “The Marksman” and “The Ice Road.”
But in Dan Trachtenberg’s clever “Predator” prequel “Prey,” the 25-year-old Midthunder is the lead. There’s a reason that the title of the new Predator film doesn’t contain the word “Predator.”
It’s not because there isn’t a fearsome alien on hand who hunts down humans and other species for the sheer enjoyment of it. Rather, it’s that this fifth entry in the long-running franchise (not counting the Alien vs. Predator entries, discuss) differs rather dramatically from its predecessors. For one thing, it has a heroine instead of a hero, who happens to be a young Indigenous woman. For another, the story takes place some 300 years ago in the Great Plains, so the most formidable high-tech human weaponry on display are the muskets wielded by French fur trappers. Despite all this, Prey, premiering domestically on Hulu, winds up being one of the more formidable installments in the series.

The first reactions to the new “Predator” movie are in, and they are downright glowing. “Prey” received an early screening at San Diego Comic-Con Thursday night, after which social media reviews started to bubble up. Across the board, the first batch of reactions are heaping praise on the prequel from director Dan Trachtenberg (“10 Cloverfield Lane”).
Set 300 years in the past, in the world of the Comanche Nation, “Prey” follows a character named Naru (Amber Midthunder), a warrior “raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains.” When the alien Predator comes calling, Naru sets out to protect her people.
The film features a cast comprised almost entirely of Native and First Nation’s talent, including Midthunder, newcomer Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp (“Sooyii”), Michelle Thrush (“The Journey Home”) and Julian Black Antelope (“Tribal”).

“Prey” is a prequel to the “Predator” horror franchise set 300 years ago in the Comanche Nation, and in the first full trailer for the new action-thriller, the Predator alien monster proves that it’s far more deadly than wildlife or European colonizers.
Dan Trachtenberg directs “Prey,” which will debut on Hulu in the U.S. and follows a skilled young woman named Naru in the Comanche Native American tribe 300 years before the events of the original film franchise.
She’s determined to prove to her tribe that she can hunt and that she can survive, and after barely surviving angering a vicious grizzly bear, she finds that this mysterious new creature that manages to kill it with ease might be the real threat. Patrick Aison wrote the script. .tpd-featured-video.youtube{position:relative;overflow:hidden;width:100;padding-top:56.25}.tpd-featured-video.youtube>iframe{position:absolute;top:0;left:0;bottom:0;right:0;width:100;height:100}.tpd-featured-video.in-content{margin-bottom:2em}

At a time when each new Liam Neeson action thriller has become utterly indistinguishable from the last, Martin Campbell’s “Memory” would at least seem to have a unique hook: In this one, the lanky Irishman plays a contract killer who’s suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Surely that should be enough to help the latest page in the Redbox chapter of Neeson’s career stand out from the likes of “The Ice Road,” “The Marksman,” and the rest of the post-“Taken” glut.
Mix in Monica Bellucci as the Jeffrey Epstein-esque queenpin of a child prostitution ring, Guy Pearce — no stranger to stories about anterograde amnesia — as a mustached FBI agent prone to wearily saying things like “Memory’s a motherfucker,” and pliable source material (the 2003 Belgian thriller “The Alzheimer Case”) that’s enriched by its new setting along Texas’ southern border, and it sounds like the recipe for a solid little programmer.
