Trying to get away with murder
Woodyanders22 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Farmer Jackson Nelson (well played by Blaise Miller) and his teenage daughter Emily (a perky and appealing portrayal by Claire Gordon-Harper) struggle to keep their farm afloat after Jackson's wife dies. Moreover, longtime rival and banker Derek Carter (a spot-on smarmy portrayal by Kyle Sing) plots to foreclose on Jackson's farm only to have Jackson turn the tables in the wake of a tragic accident.

Writer/director Joselito Seldera relates the compelling story at a steady pace, takes time to develop the characters, grounds the premise in a believable workaday reality, and astutely captures the difficulty of getting away with murder and sustaining a lie. This film further benefits from excellent supporting contributions from Jake McLean as Derek's nice, but angry son Josh, Paul Dillon as the pragmatic Chief Frank Kowalski, and Maria Stephens as Josh's worried mother Martha. A fine film.
