A good webseries...

Warning: Spoilers
I just found this web series on YouTube and watched the first 7 episodes. I think the only ones filmed to date. Overall it is a very good amateur series and many scenes were more frightening than poorer network series like Z Nation. In fact it has a more serious feel and how average folks would struggle in this situation than many regular series or movies.

I was enjoying the landscape although I can't find out where it was filmed. As it was filmed over different years then the seasons are not consistent. In one episode they're walking through green forest and in another, a complete dry fall corn field. Having said that the urban location for a couple of the episodes look too good and too modern and not damaged enough to have been through a zombie apocalypse. I guess the local folks weren't willing to trash their houses. :-)

The acting is local and amateur but not too bad all around. A few could be better but most do their part well.

It would have been nice to have more backstory and more of the groups figuring out what works and what doesn't. We started out with the outbreak of the disease but then groups who were scavenging. Having more foundation episodes would be good before we got into the overly stereotypical plotline of a person feeding live humans to dead relatives or some type of fast, smart zombie.

A few things seemed a little off. The groups are carrying only small day packs for carrying everything. I know they have to be fast but certainly they would have gotten larger backpacks, even if still day packs, and outfitted them with many things they needed to survive. While I'm not gone through a zombie outbreak, I have gone backpacking and carrying food around in cans is too heavy and bulky. On their rates they would have found many bags and containers to move food to.

And speaking of food, clearly they have to raid houses to get some. So the whining about it being dangerous is moot. You have to do it. In one house, with the "advanced" zombie in the basement, they are collecting food but the guy starts stuffing what looks like potato chips into his backpack. What kind of food is that to be collecting when this is what you are surviving on? In fact it looks like he overlooked some better foods for the junk.

Also very few weapons which you'd think would be easy to find in many houses - esp guns. Indeed in the last episode when they kill the zombie in the garage, they leave the garage without even commenting on the two rifles hunt on the wall.

Also in that last episode, they wanted a car and were looking for the keys. Surely they would have found a similar vehicles earlier but there must be some reason for using one now. In fact, the last episode was filmed in the fall and with grey weather, you'd think they'd be looking for a permanent shelter for the winter. Also I'd love to see a zombie movie or series that would fortify their position locally. Not on the farm but in suburbia. You could install ladders and other wood between 2 buildings so you could cross from house to house well above the zombies. Have escape ropes and escape/panic rooms.

There are many amateur series on various streaming systems, zombie or otherwise, and this one is certainly worth the watch.
