Can the Cat join the Chinese Zodiac?
Tweekums2 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Two thousand years have passed since it was decided which animals were to feature in the Chinese Zodiac… and Nya-tan, the cat, was not one of them. Now Nya-tan wants her place in the zodiac. To do that she must fight and defeat each of the other animals and take their seals. Having lost her memory she doesn't know why she failed originally but she is determined to get a place this time. She starts living with ordinary high school student Takeru Amato after he gives her 'Sol/Lull' a magical sustenance given to gods when humans praise them… and his it particularly strong. Over the course of the series she manages to collect seals, some are relatively easy to get and others are a challenge but ultimately she must confront the god responsible for her exclusion from the zodiac; Chuu-chan: the rat.

This is a fun series with plenty of enjoyable action and cute anthropomorphised versions of the creatures from Chinese astrology. Nya-tan is a great lead; amusing and full of energy and the supporting cast of gods are distinctive and amusing in their own ways; most notably the perverted Ox, Moo-tan and Piyo-tan the Rooster who forgets everything after taking three steps. The fight scenes take place in the 'Eto World' there the combatants appear as much smaller but with large heads; which serves to make them even cuter. Early on there is no sense of danger as those defeated reincarnate soon after but later on we learn that they can be killed when Chuu-chan kills one of the others who comes to Nya-tan's aid. Overall this is a fun series with action and humour; it might not be a must see but it is a great way to pass the time.
