ooh the heavenly dove

Only about seventeen, but looks way younger, singing about how the rain should come down to wash her clean, as she lights up candles on the floor, waiting for a scruffy-looking boyfriend with a race-striped car to come fetch her. Walking out in the rain to meet him...

Always struck me that the guy looked way to old and experienced for her, and am surprised now to learn she was actually seventeen... Still, the situation looks more like a wild schoolgirl fantasy, very far removed from (I suspect) Hilary's reality. She's singing a virgin's song, these are a virgin's unrealistic dreams, with a guy that comes across as definitely not the type mothers would want their daughters to associate with, especially not their precocious little teen puffballs.

Okay, don't get me wrong. I've played my Hilary DVD over and over, and this song has a clear ring, a certain gentle purity in that music, that is a standout. You have to hear it to know what I am talking about. It sounds magical. That's all I can say.

Total junior Barbie. But not with a Ken. That guy looks like a love 'em and leave 'em race-car driver. To a kid, a forbidden fantasy. I think that's the attraction.

The important thing however is the gentle melodious soothing sound, and pretty (if totally fluffy puffball) Hilary. Soothing. Let me repeat that word. Soothing. This is the most soothing sound you could hope to encounter. Millions of little girls must also have played the song over and over, and the music video is very, very gentle, very romantic.

Download it now if you haven't seen it.
