The camera work of Zak's 2014-reworkings of James Joyce's novels is better than Travis Mills'. Acting better, music better, colors better, practically everything is far superior Travis's adaptations; and yet, somehow, Mills does better than Zak to convince the people of the sincerity of his images. A Painful Case, for instance, is thereby a failure which works best as slapstick than as serious melodrama.
