"Nekonin," also known as "Neko Ninja," is an absolutely charming comedy with a heartwarming message. It has very much the feel of a low-budget passion project, with simple sets and minimal effects but lots of heart poured into its eccentric premise: the story of a ninja in exile who believes a cat is actually his father in magical disguise. The dialogue is clever and consistently funny, with even the meows of its feline actors timed to perfect humorous effect. The human character arcs are also well-developed, with subplots of love, lies, and redemption woven smoothly into the overarching story of humans playing cat and mouse (so to speak) over a cat. Fellow crazy cat people are guaranteed to love this film, but it should satisfy anyone looking for a well-told comedy of errors.
