Great song, slightly less great music video
SnowLeopardMaster22 October 2018
Jam was the first song off the album Dangerous, which is, in my humble opinion, the best Michael Jackson album. And this song is the perfect song to start it off. The singing, the tune, the beats, it's all amazing.

The music video, on the other hand, is still good, but not by Michael Jackson's standards. It pales in comparison to the videos of Thriller or Smooth Criminal. Sure, the dancing and choreography are definitely there, but it's just not very memorable in the grand scheme of things.

On the other hand, it's a crossover between Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan, and that's pretty awesome. Also, the ending scene can be helpful for anybody who's trying to imitate Michael Jackson's dancing.

Jam. Underrated

Just perfection. Incredible short film featuring Michael Jordan teaching Michael Jackson how to play basketball and Michael Jackson teaching Michael Jordan how to dance. How can you not give this video a 10 out of 10?

Great meaning behind it

Very important message behind this video. Its a fun video of MJ and the other MJ dancing and playing basketball. Another classic by the king of pop. The song is fantastic and the beat is too. Michael looks great here and he looks to have hade fun filming this.

Wow! Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. What else can you ask?

This music video is absolutely amazing! Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. What else can you ask? Great song, great moves, Jordan flying and great dancers. Michael Jordan teaches MJ to play basketball, and MJ teaches Michael Jordan the moonwalk. Absolutely stunning, cute, brilliant, and cool. A real gem. 10/10

MJ² sadly not a triumph

Warning: Spoilers
Here we have the music video for the Michael Jackson song Jam from 1992, so this one is moving closer to its 30th anniversary and sadly Jackson is of course long gone, even if people moving away from due to some dubious circumstances and (once again) his unusual relationship with children. But this we shall not elaborate on today. Jackson was already in his mid-30s when this was made. The director is David Kellogg and he has a fairly peculiar body of work you could say for sure in terms of all the different stuff he shot. I will not go into detail, check his resumee if you want to know what I mean. You won't be disappointed. What else is there to say about this one? Well, it runs for 8 minutes (not among Jackson's longest or shortest music videos), but the last 2 minutes or so are not really music anymore. Instead we see Michael Jackson trying to teach basketball great Michael Jordan how to dance. Well, Jordan also showed up earlier in the video, but at the end, it is just the two MJs. Earlier we see the two in Jordan's element with the basketball and Jordan is even carrying Jackson around at one point. By the way Jordan was almost 30 too at that point, so far from the early years of his career, despite how old it already is and sadly Jackson was truly white there too already. One thing I found a bit unusual is that we see another singer/rapper here midway into the video and while that is the most common thing today, you won't really see it too often in Jackson's videos. Sure there are always large portions when he does not sing, but then instead we see some story line or special effects or just Jackson dancing, but here the attention actually turns away from him to another musician. You can read tha names of the people who starred alongside the two MJs here in the cast list. Overall, I think the video was tolerable, felt very 90s, but the song was just too weak for a positive recommendation in my opinion. Skip it unless you are a really huge MJ fan (no matter which one).

At its time, this video, this song was, in my case, a revelation. Because it is not only expression of perfectionism, hard work, high dedication and succes. But each song, in frame of its video, is a revelation about aspects, so ignored, of the near reality. Sure, dance, music, humor, basketball, Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson together in a nice "fight". But you feel and you know than it is more. It is a profound confession about meanings of ordinary events and wonderful eulogy of life. So, no surprise, just great.
