I loved it.. Great start, but I missed something about it.

After the end of the first season and knowing they were headed to the house on the rock, As someone who read the book I was wondering how they'd create the Carousel scene and now after seeing it I just loved it, it was a hard portion of the book to put into film but they did it justice. However I did miss the story of the spider and the tiger's balls that Anancy tells in the book as it was a funny story that explains Anancy's character perfectly and I always remember it fondly. but all in all it was a great episode and I can't wait for the rest of the season.

American Gods' main character is a backseat passenger in his own story.

Why all the hate ?

I don't understand why all the bad reviews here, I just finished season 2 and thought it was superb, not quite as astonishing as season 1 but that was so fantastically unlike anything before it I guess some people will be disappointed.

Basically get over it, season 2 is just as awesome as season 1 so long as you don't expect it to be season 1. As usual Ian McShane lifts everything he appears in from Al Swearengen to American Gods the man awesome.

Love the concept and execution

The power of the old gods is declining, as we put our time and "worship" into modern conveniences. Odin wants to change that trend, and is willing to do anything to fulfill his dream. The Carrousel sequence. I didn't believe they could do it justice, but they really pulled it off. It was exactly the dream-like sequence, I pictured in my head hundreds of times.

Perfect start ...

First. I didn't read the book. But the thrilling goes on. I love more and more the meaning of the dialogue. But I'm asking my self, see people only the show or did they also the hidden meaning of the script. People forget the meaning of Statue of Liberty. That is not typical American. Every country in the world has his own Statue of Liberty. Great entertainment helps to think and see out of the box.

Not great

Really enjoyed season one but the start of season two seems like a lot of fancy visual nonsense. No tension no plot. They seem to have a bigger budget, just no idea what to do with it. Hope it gets better

CW quality meets American Gods

There was a lot of bad press around this season. First season was, in my opinion, spectacular. The effects were mostly following a rich narrative. First episode of this season has no depth. It's a cascade of scenes wanting to tell meaningless ideas. It's like being at an awful theater show.

Devastated to confirm the worst.

Rewatched S1 in preparation for Season 2, and it only served to remind me how incredible S1 was.

S2E01, in comparison, was immediately rambling, uninteresting and visually unintelligible. Within half an hour, I found myself asking "Did they swap showrunners or something??". Somehow I missed the news that yes, yes they did. It's all plot and no pacing, over-the-top visuals and much less sharp dialogue. The characters are like different people, cliches and parodies of their former selves.

It's turned into what the first season managed to avoid becoming - a big, glossy, nothing.

What more can I say? The heading said it all. A really weak start to Season two.

Work on the WRITING!!!!! Becuz u have destroyed 1 of the best shows on tv!!
I understand Fuller left & there has been constant chaos behind the set! But come on the writing was truly aweful! I mean the show is still beautiful! But starz why couldn't u have just given Brian Fuller the money he needed! Now ur going way way way off script with a capture torture scene could u get anymore cliche! This is Niel Gaiman he's so far from cliche it's not even funny! I mean the first season was like poetry! It had this beautiful rythem to it & now u have destroyed everything with 1 episode! Now u have critics from EW & Empire the two biggest Entertainment magazines in the world saying there not going to watch ur show anymore! This was my favorite show from 2017 & u have completely ruined it! Because ur cheap & lazy and didn't take time to make the script work!

Accuracy 5

Seems quite unrealistic that the new American Gods being only less than a hundred years old (High Tech Gods) can defeat the Old American Gods brought to America that survived for Millenniums (thousands of Years) before being brought to America.

Gods demanding worship reminds me of that Star Trek Season 2 Episode 2 of Apollo demanding the worship of the crew of the Starship Enterprise.

Most of these Episodes were well researched especially Season 1 Episode 7, about the Story of Essie, as most actual American History is not actually taught, as the 13 American Colonies were originally the British Prison Colonies of America, the overcrowded British Prisons were emptied out with prisoners sentenced to "Transportation", most did not survive the deadly one way boat ride to the British Prison Colonies of America.

This Season 2 Episode 1 does not seem to be as well researched as previous Season Episodes, kind of disappointing for s Season Premiere.

Let down

I would have given it 10 stars based off season 1 - I love the acting and I love the characters. Taking Laura and Mad Sweeney away from The story and off the show = HORRIBLE. I loved their chemistry. " puppy " is so hot and so amazing to look at - but the show nose dived

As usual Slovenian gods are lame
jajtzenaoko19 March 2019
Writers should have read more about religion of ancient Slavs, and stop making fun of them as drunk Russian characters. Polish, Czech, Slovakian, Slovenian, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, Montenegrian, South Macedonian, we all remember our ancestry, and our gods. Slava Perunu!
