As a press release notes, this trailer show us that “Jason towers over the competition as a Tank class character with a scary moveset that incorporates his axe and machete weapons, teleporting ability to show up right behind opponents and stuff them into a sleeping bag, fatally folding a bed in half to launch enemies off the map,...

VR specialists Survios has announced Alien: Rogue Incursion, a first-person, single-player “frightfully immersive” videogame.
The Alien franchise celebrates its 45th anniversary on the 25th May, and there’s already a xenomorph-flavoured sequel – August’s Alien: Romulus – planned to help celebrate.
We’ve also learned there’s a new videogame based on the series in the works. Called Alien: Rogue Incursion, it’s billed as the first virtual reality outing for the Alien – which means, of course, you’ll need one of those fancy VR helmets to play it.
In development at Survios – which previously made the likes of The Walking Dead Onslaught and Puzzle Bobble VR, a game we didn’t realise existed until now – Alien: Rogue Incursion is billed as a single-player action-horror created in Unreal Engine.
Its announcement was accompanied by a teaser video which shows us… nothing. Absolutely nothing.

In The Amazing Spider-Man movie, Irrfan Khan plays Dr Rajit Ratha, who was an Oscorp executive. He is the immediate superior to Dr Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans). There are two new wide or semi-wide releases this weekend, “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” and “Jules,” but how many moviegoers will actually buy tickets with so many other stronger contenders still in theaters? Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Before we get to the new movies this week, we probably should address the “Barbenheimer” in the room. There’s very little doubt that “Barbie” can pull off a rare fourth weekend at #1 with upwards of $32 million or more after holding up so well against “Meg 2” and the “Ninja Turtles” this past weekend. Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” also has a good chance at reclaiming second place, since it’s likely to have a smaller drop-off this weekend than both of last week’s new movies.

Jules director Marc Turtletaub with Anne-Katrin Titze on Ben Kingsley: “This is not a way we’ve ever seen Sir Ben before.”
Marc Turtletaub’s otherworldly Jules, written by Gavin Steckler, shot by Christopher Norr and scored by Volker Bertelmann (Oscar for Best Original Score of Edward Berger’s All Quiet On The Western Front), stars Ben Kingsley with Harriet Sansom Harris, Jane Curtin, Zoë Winters, and Jade Quon as the title character. The first time I spoke with Marc Turtletaub he was with Kelly Macdonald, star of his Puzzle (screenplay co-written by Oren Moverman) at Sony Pictures Classics. His producer credits include Jeff Nichols’ Loving (based in part on Nancy Buirski's The Loving Story), Marielle Heller’s A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, Davy Rothbart’s 17 Blocks, as executive producer Robin Wright’s Land, and an Oscar nomination for Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton’s Little Miss Sunshine.

Directed by Marc Turtletaub (Puzzle), Jules stars Kingsley as Milton, a man who lives a quiet life of routine in a small western Pennsylvania town, but finds his day upended when a UFO and its extra-terrestrial passenger crash land in his backyard. Before long, Milton develops a close relationship with the extra-terrestrial he calls “Jules.” Things become complicated when two neighbors (Samson Harris and Curtin) discover Jules and the government quickly closes in. "You've seen the movies, you know what happens to these guys when they fall to Earth." Bleecker Street has revealed the first official trailer for Jules, a sci-fi indie comedy from filmmaker Marc Turtletaub, best known for his charming film Puzzle from a few years ago. This recently premiered at the Sonoma Film Festival and will be playing in theaters nationwide starting in August before the summer is over. An unusual and unexpected visitor brings together several people living in a small town in rural Western Pennsylvania. A lonely older man befriends a mute alien visitor. Described as "a funny, wildly inventive ride as the three neighbors find meaning and connection later in life - thanks to this unlikely stranger." The film stars Ben Kingsley, Harriet Sansom Harris, Zoe Winters, Jane Curtin, Donald Paul, Jeff Kim, with Jade Quon as Jules. This looks surprisingly charming, with a cute lil' blue man alien in it.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Is A 'Roller Coaster And Not A Crossword Puzzle' — See First Image
Did you miss him? Of course you did! Everyone's favorite private detective with an unparalleled nose for the truth is back and ready for another round of "CSI: KFC" action. After writer/director Rian Johnson promptly reinvigorated the murder-mystery genre with the Oscar-nominated "Knives Out" in 2019, audiences, in no small part due to Daniel Craig's gloriously campy portrayal of Benoit Blanc, immediately looked ahead to the next time we could see the detective doing what he does best — snooping around in everyone else's business, casually making suspects uncomfortable, and using his vast insights to solve all the most complicated crimes.
"Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" is the next buzzworthy installment of Johnson's hit original franchise and now we're getting a fresh look at what the sequel has to offer. If you recall, Netflix scooped up the rights to the second film (and a third!) in a frenzied bidding...

One of my favorite gifts to give (and receive) are board games, because it’s a great way to interact with friends and family all while celebrating the things that we love. With that in mind, I’ve put together this extensive list of tons of awesome games and puzzles that would make excellent gifts during this holiday season. Exclusive: Steve Buscemi and Wren Arthur’s Olive Productions has closed a two-year, first-look deal with TBS and TNT.
Under the pact, the New York-based company plans to mine their talent relationships to develop drama and comedy series for the two WarnerMedia networks. Buscemi and Arthur already are working on book and other IP adaptations, as well as several provocative and aspirational unscripted series ideas.
Unscripted programming’s importance at the two networks has been on the rise, especially at TNT.
The deal expands Buscemi’s relationship with TBS where he is star and executive producer of series Miracle Workers. The breakout comedy, TBS’ most watched original scripted series in Live+Same Day, has been renewed for a second season.

Today sees Olivier Pairoux begin the shoot for his feature debut, a family adventure flick starring Basile Grunberger, Albane Masson and Yannick Renier. Today sees the start of the six-week shoot for Space Boy, the feature debut by director Olivier Pairoux (whom we have to thank for the Philippe Katerine-starring short film Puzzle), which he co-wrote with Eusebio Larrea. Space Boy is a family adventure film, a fairly unusual proposition in French-language Belgian cinema, and it draws its inspiration from the Us films of this genre that the director was brought up on as a child, such as The Goonies, E.T. and Stand by Me. This movie tinged with nostalgia unfolds in 1986, a time when space exploration was in full swing. An exceptionally gifted dreamer, 11-year-old Jim, lives with his father, Graham, who is destined to become the first British scientist to go into space. But when Jim finds.

The Women’s Image Awards has announced its 2018 nominations, with the BBC miniseries “Little Women” that aired on PBS’ “Masterpiece” series earning a leading six bids on the TV side. As for films, “Mary Queen of Scots” secured five spots on the ballot, followed by the Ruth Bader Ginsberg biopic “On the Basis of Sex” and Melissa McCarthy’s “Can Your Ever Forgive Me,” both with four.
Given the #MeToo and Time’s Up movement’s push against sexual harassment and lack of equal opportunity for women in Hollywood, the fact that an organization like Women’s Image Awards exists is more important than ever. The group that is celebrating its 20th anniversary has just announced its nominations in 18 categories. The TV and film nominees are selected from a field of submissions from networks and studios.

While “Fahrenheit 11/9” wasn’t was box office analysts expected, this weekend saw The Year of the Documentary strike again with the arrival of National Geographic’s “Free Solo” in the indie box office, and with it, a new per screen average record for docs.
Telling the story of climber Alex Hannold’s quest to climb Yosemite’s El Capitan without any equipment, the thrilling, critically-acclaimed doc earned $300,804 from its four screen release, earning a per screen average of $75,201. That breaks the 12-year PSA record for documentaries held by “An Inconvenient Truth,” which had a starting average of $70,333. It’s also the best PSA of 2018, beating the $63,000 average of A24’s “Eighth Grade.”
On the feature side, Fox Searchlight, which released Best Picture winner “The Shape of Water” last winter, made a return to the indie charts with “The Old Man & The Gun,” which features the final acting performance of the legendary Robert Redford.

Triawan Munaf, chairman of the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (Bekraf) was on hand on Monday for the opening of the Bali International Film Festival (Balinale). His presence was intended as a sign that Indonesia, Asia’s sleeping giant as a film player, is rousing itself.
It was also an endorsement of the indie festival which, in its 12th year, is adding industry functions and seeking relevance far away from capital city, Jakarta.
Hosted in two Cinemaxx multiplexes in Denpasar and Kuta, the festival aims to reach different strands of Bali’s population, natives, long-term resident expatriates, and passing tourists.
A showcase of films by Roland Joffe is arguably the highlight of the event. The British director was a key figure at the BalinaleX industry conference on Sunday and is on hand through the week to present his multi-Oscar winning “The Killing Fields,” and Palme d’Or winner “The Mission.

First-time director and long-time producer Marc Turtletaub, with a screenplay co-written by Oren Moverman and Polly Mann, based on Natalia Smirnoff's film Rompecabezas, sets up his protagonist's life with an elegant and surprising opening sequence that makes us understand in a flash the dynamics between Agnes (Kelly Macdonald) and her nearest and dearest and propels us into the personal riddles to be explored. So clearly the focus of the story, Agnes resembles even earlier movie heroines whose names became titles of the films - Kitty Foyle or Mildred Pierce may come to mind.

Although Puzzle takes place in the present, a sense of the past prevails. The houses, work of production designer.

Competitive jigsaw puzzle solving does not sound exciting but the surprisingly engrossing Puzzle is more about a woman discovering herself than completing a puzzle. The real puzzle she is solving is who she is.
Puzzle opens with a woman in an old fashioned dress preparing her home for a birthday party. After we see her waiting on guests, cleaning up after them and bringing out the cake she baked, we discover it is her birthday. Her dress and the decor of the house suggest it is the 1930s or ’40s, so we are again surprised when, after the guests are gone and she is opening gifts, one of them is a smart phone – revealing we are in the present. She doesn’t seem too pleased with the phone but is more interested in the next gift – a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle.

The Venice Film Festival begins August 29 and possibly the most anticipated American entry is the world premiere of “A Star Is Born” starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, who also directed the film. This is at least the fourth telling of this tale. The stars change, the style of music changes, but the story apparently has something that is evergreen — the title, coincidentally, of Barbra Streisand’s Oscar-winning song in the 1976 version.
The latest big-screen reboot of “Charlie’s Angels” was announced earlier this summer, and as we speak, Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner are prepping a reimagining of “West Side Story.” It might make sense to attempt a new take on a great idea that didn’t work the first time. (The Rat Pack’s “Oceans 11” became the much better George Clooney version.) But for an iconic musical that won 10 Oscars?
The list of failed remakes is long. Another winner of ten-plus Oscars,...
