Beautifully Dark

Personally, I love it when artists can make something so dark and creepy seem so beautiful. The macabre has it's own aesthetic and if you're not careful, it can cross the line of horror. But this movie, albeit short, was beautiful. It's wrongly labelled as a horror. It also had such good animation and sounds. The settings was accurate. I feel like I can smell the rot and despair. I was actually grossed out.

The vibe was different from most gothic but likeable movies I've seen. Had it been longer and more detailed, this would have been an AWESOME movie.

I hope they make a whole universe out of this. I am reminded that Tim Burton isn't the only one who can play this game. And I'm so here for it.

Stop wine-ing.

This scrumptious French short film focuses on a young winemaker who, in his efforts to impress the wealthy father of the woman he loves and gain his blessing for them to marry, comes face to face with Death herself and sets in motion a series of events that have dire unforeseen consequences. At the heart of 'Death And The Winemaker (2021)' is love, as it's this that motivates the winemaker to perform his unintentionally cataclysmic action, but there's also a cautionary element that warns you of what would happen if one were to mess with the natural order of things, no matter how pure their intention. The palpably forlorn narration drives the experience, imbuing it with even more of its distinct dark fairytale vibe, and the excellent performances ground the picture in its own painterly reality. The aesthetic is just gorgeous, with its watercolour-like backdrops merging with cel-shaded characters surprisingly well, and it really captures the period in which it's set. There are some interesting shot compositions and transitions, too. The story is well-paced and compelling, even though its ultimate twists are both very obvious. It perfectly fits its shirt length, never feeling overstuffed or stretched thin, and the work that's gone into it is incredibly evident right from the start. It's a really atmospheric, enigmatic and enjoyable affair overall. It's great.

An interesting dark fairy tale Warning: Spoilers
When I was a little kid, I remember being creeped out by a certain episode from Jim Henson's The Storyteller, named "The Soldier and Death", particularly due its haunting depiction of demons and the Grim Reaper.

This French animated short has a lot in common with the story from that episode, namely a well-intentioned character being somehow able to capture Death itself, only to discover eventually that a world where nobody dies isn't exactly paradise.

The ending is also similar, though much grimmer in tone. A rather impressive feat, considering The Soldier and Death had a rather unhappy conclusion.

This is an eerie, gothic fairytale, stylish and grotesque. A bit uneven on its animation (I got some mixed feelings about the character designs, which at moments don't match the dark beauty of the backgrounds) but still captivating nonetheless.

Definitely worth-watching.

pure gem

Warning: Spoilers
A beautiful love story. Seductive for familiar ingredients, flavors of childhood fairy tales and crumbs from Edgar Allan Poe and, especially, for the remind of recent pandemic.

In same measure, splendid crafted.

In short, a gem, with a winemaker reminding Pinocchio / Peter Pan, for fascinating image ( and revenge ) of death, for the consequence, terrible one, of a mistake of youth and for the eulogy of seduction of wine.

I admitt, it is a film who real i love. First, for lovelz trip across memories about early youth. Second, for atmosphere. Not the last, for the remind of stories from past about eternal life.

No doubts, pure gem.
