I have finally decided to break down and watch the dozens of white- coater Adam & Eve videos made by Nina Hartley, wearing her sexologist hat, over the past two decades to spread the Good Word about sexual liberation. Designed to help couples get over the hump, these often quaint releases are actually the gold standard in a rather non-creative genre.
This edition, which I watched on a 2-fer reissue DVD titled "Nina Hartley's Guide to Seduction" (the other feature included being her guide to Private Dancing), is both sincere and useful. That's because Nina's sound advice is delivered in a literate, upbeat manner that helps defuse both the "dirty" nature of talk about sex (just as Dr. Ruth has spent a career doing in a more serious way) as well as the obvious commercial motives of pornographers (A & E in this case) mining this particular field. Nina's accomplishment, repeated in at least 30 or 40 of these videos, is to make the subject accessible, appealing and arousing.
She employs both a pro (the married superstar couple Missy and Mickey G. , early in their Adult careers) and am (Midori, not the Black actress white gal pal of Nina's, and Michael) set of participants.
Carefully telling the viewer the do's and don'ts of necking and heavy petting, Nina demonstrates at length with Midori in supposedly the first ever sexual encounter between the long-time lady friends.
