"The Christmas Tree" is a short film from 1975 that has recently been including in a collection of old short films called. "Vintage Christmas Classics". There's really nothing 'classic' about them...they're just a bunch of old, junky shorts which are now on Freevee.
The film consists of folks with green makeup on playing Christmas trees. Soon a guy comes along with an axe to cut them down. Now the trees with faces are in a tree lot and are eventually bought, taken home and decorated. Once one arrives in its new home, it begins to communicate with the other house plants. Then, Christmas morning it's presents and the like. And, following the holidays, it's out with the rubbish. It's all very strange indeed.
The film is essentially silent, with added sound effects and music. It was obviously made on the cheap and apparently was made in the UK. Perhaps there it is remembered....but here it's just a very obscure short.
So it is any good? No. But it IS difficult to stop watching because it makes you wonder why it was made and what the point of the film is. In that sense, it is interesting...just not good in any way. However, it does have a couple cute moments...so at least it doesn't earn a 1.
