A very interesting thriller with a well defined plotline. The cast have done a great job especially Amit Chakkalakkal who portrayed the lead character. Dilesh Pothen also played a key role, his character was neck to neck with the Lead. Very brave attempt from the makers in building up the movie with comparatively newer faces in the key roles. The plot goes in a slow but very steady pace with a very gripping second half and an interesting climax.

Good attempt

Eventhough the story keeps engaging after the first half we have to maintain calmness till then. Some of the jokes were creepy.Amith has done a very good job in this movie.
when it finishes its the climax that disappoints everyone.
A good attempt but with a disappointing climax

It was a fresh story on this genre. But the ending is not good enough to satisfy you.Nevertheless it was an edge of the seat thriller till the end.You watch it without any expectation,so that you will not regret about the 2 hours you spend on this.
This thriller in Malayalam movies.

Good movie. I liked it. It's not a perfectly placed n marketed. New storyline totally different from old thrillers. Defenitely, can't compare with Hollywood class. But completely justifying it's attempt. Even I am liver of Hollywood thrillers, this movie also brings up with some interesting moments.
Avg movie

A fresh plot implemented poorly

The movie is a new type of investigation thriller. But the director have failed to create a thrilling element in the story.Amit Chakkalakkal and Dileesh Pothen have acted well.Eldho Issac's camera was also very good. But the movie will be a disappointment to people who are a great fan of thriller movies.
Good movie and Good try

It's just a average thriller movie.Sometimes the movie is lagging and it's a caste related movie, these 2 are the main drawbacks that put the movie into average. The director tried his best, but casting was poor. Director made some mistakes and it was clearly seen in movie. The location was nice and showed the beauty of backwaters in Kerala. The story was so short and the crew tried hard to make 2 hour, that we feel when seen it.Overall it's a good movie.
Very good movie

Quite an interesting story ruined by poor script and direction

The whole theme and story are engaging. But Rejjish Mithila fails to deliver a script as good as the story. Amith Chakalakal is mostly convincing as an arrogant priest but his lack of experience is visible. Editing is another drawback. Director has no idea when to cut a scene. A lot of scenes gets extended to fill in for the unnecessary background music. And the songs aren't pleasing either. The songs are there just for the sake of it. The first hour of the movie is completely used to establish Vincent Kombala, the protagonist, and the place where everything happens. Movie lacks the pace which the story demands.
DOP Eldho Isac deserves an applause. Despite all the flaws, the visuals are pretty good.
It's a one-time watchable movie and would be good if you fast forward through most scenes.
Excellent thriller movie

An underrated movie initially that people only realized later on that it is a very good movie. Modest cast but great acting by the lead actor. Movie and acting by lead and rest much better than many of the other superstar malayalam movies of today
One-Line Review: Varikkuzhiyile Kolapatahakam (5 Stars)
nairtejas9 June 2019
Varikkuzhiyile Kolapathakam (Murder at the Pit) has one of the most interesting characters (of a young priest who doubles up as a righteous goon at his congregational village) I have seen in Malayalam cinema in recent times but his (Amith Chakalakkal) charm begins to fade as soon as you get excited in the story mostly because of a shallow depth in his character, accentuated by a lack of freshness once the murder mentioned in the title occurs. TN.
Poor movie.

Good Movie. Everybody acted well in the movie. BGM in the movie was not so good. The movie was not interesting and thrilling at 1st half because of many unwanted scenes. The movie was interesting and thrilling at 2nd half. Good Movie.
One of the best thrillers from malayalam industry

I don't know what made these movie "intellectuals" to go against this movie but for me who watches each and every English and Malayalam movies, it's really good.
Yes I admit there are some cast vice shortcomings but they stick to the plot 100%.
Intelligent but..

Overall I will give the movie 5/10. A real life priest is not like the main character who gives bashing to wrongdoers of the parish. A trainee policeman became a priest. Please... The actor who done the main role, felt like forced fed dialogues, it wasn't natural at all. Dilesh Pothen did justice to his role as antagonist. The rest were like average and few below average. The role done by Nedumudi Venu is like disaster. He should had been given a better character not a sleazy one. Projection of that Mahindra Thar is way too much and felt like Mahindra & Mahindra is the main funding source for this movie.
Masala style time pass watch

Varikkuzhiyile Kolapathakam is a masala style film, but its okay as a time pass watch.
The plot is basically interesting and most of the dialogues are quite good as are the settings, cinematography etc. Where the film grates is with the excessive masala style dramatics of the priest Vincent Komban, enacted by Amit Chackalakal. I guess his character is meant to be over dramatised and for sure there is a significant audience for such type of films. The rest of the characters are quite good.
I watched this on Prime Video with English subtitles.
As I said, its okay as a time pass watch. Malayalam cinema has a lot better to offer.
