Paula Abdul filed her sexual assault and battery suit against Nigel Lythgoe late last year seeking a jury trial, and she’s going to get one.
The American Idol judge will face off against her So You Think You Can Dance co-star starting on July 28, 2025, a LA Superior Court judge announced today.
The date was made public in a Case Management hearing Tuesday morning in Dlta on Abdul’s explosive lawsuit against the long time Idol and Sytycd producer.
However, while the much-accused Lythgoe is looking at a trial next year, his former fellow defendants are now off the hook, at least tentatively. Following up on an April 23 filing statement (read it here) revealing a settlement between the Johnson & Johnson Llp represented Abdul and FremantleMedia North America and American Idols Productions, the one of the ‘Straight Up’ singer’s lawyers said it out loud this Am.

Paula Abdul is speaking out via her legal team after the latest development in her lawsuit against Nigel Lythgoe.
The “Straight Up” pop star and American Idol judge sued the TV producer in December 2023, accusing him of sexual assault and harassment.
At the time, he denied the claims in a statement. However, multiple other lawsuits have accused him of similar things. In early January, Nigel gave up his spot on the judging panel for So You Think You Can Dance.
On Tuesday (March 5), Nigel asked the courts to dismiss Paula‘s lawsuit. Court documents describe him as a “victim of Abdul’s appalling lies” and provided alleged text exchanges. It also alleged that the accusations had a “life-changing impact” on Nigel‘s life.
Paula responded via her legal team.

Law & Order: Svu was a bit of new territory for hip-hop artist Ice-t. When he first met the cast, he noticeably kept a bit of distance. But little did the rapper know he’d be working with his Law & Order for 25 seasons now.
Ice-t failed to hang out with his ‘Law & Order’ co-stars at first Ice-t, Chris Meloni, Richard Belzer, Diane Neal, Dann Florek, B.D. Wong, Mariska Hargitay | NBC Universal / Getty Images
Ice-t couldn’t have known Law & Order was going to last as long as it has when he was first cast. The actor has always shared that he was originally only supposed to be on the show for four episodes.
“Here it is, we’re starting the 22nd season. I can’t really explain it, man,” Ice-t said not too long ago on Straight Up Steve Austin.
But Ice-t doesn’t mind the show’s longevity.

Nigel Lythgoe has issued his first formal statement after being accused of sexual assault and harassment by former colleague Paula Abdul.

Speaking to TMZ, the exec expressly denied Paula‘s allegations.
“To say that I am shocked and saddened by the allegations made against me by Paula Abdul is a wild understatement. For more than two decades, Paula and I have interacted as dear — and entirely platonic — friends and colleagues,” he told the outlet.
Nigel continued, adding, “Yesterday, however, out of the blue, I learned of these claims in the press and I want to be clear: not only are they false, they are deeply offensive to me and to everything I stand for.

This article contains spoilers for “Winning Time” Episode 5.
If you’ve been keeping up with HBO’s “Winning Time: Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” you know it’s been a bumpy ride for Jerry Buss (John C. Reilly) and the Los Angeles Lakers. As the first four episodes have shown, the path to greatness is strewn with roadblocks: shaky financing, rivalries between teammates, the last-minute resignation of the head coach and the murder-driven dropout of his replacement.
In Episode 5, titled “Pieces of a Man,” Buss’ “Showtime” strategy – a revamped Forum, new Laker Girls, and most importantly, Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) – plus Jack McKinney’s (Tracy Letts) fast-break offense are finally put to the test. Their first game against the then-San Diego Clippers shows promise, but things really pick up with their first home game of the 1979-1980 season. Of course, the Lakers’ early victories are not without their fair share of drama,...

“America’s Got Talent” season 16 continues on June 15 with a special one-hour episode showcasing the best (and worst) auditions. In this phase of “AGT,” an act needs at least three of the four judges to give them a “yes” vote to advance to the next round. If two or more judges buzz the act, it is immediately eliminated. Each judge, along with host Terry Crews, has one chance to hit the “golden buzzer” and send an act straight through to the live performances.

Spirit Awards 2021 Winners List: ‘Nomadland,’ ‘I May Destroy You,’ Riz Ahmed, Carey Mulligan Win Big
“Mank” is the big leader at the 2021 Oscars with 10 nominations, but that wasn’t the case at the 36th Film Independent Spirit Awards. The nomination leader at this ceremony was Eliza Hittman’s acclaimed “Never Rarely Sometimes Always,” which the Academy shut out from the Oscars. The same goes for other beloved Spirit Award nominees like “First Cow,” “Miss Juneteenth,” and “The Assistant.” In other words, the Indie Spirit Awards were a breath of fresh air in this elongated awards season where underdog indie contenders finally get their due in the spotlight.
“Minari” also preformed strong at the Indie Spirits, earning six nominations to match its six Oscar nominations. Fellow Oscar nominees “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Nomadland” each picked up five Spirit Award nominations. Netflix was the most nominated studio with 16 nominations, followed by Focus Features with 10 and A24 with 9.

The 36th Film Independent Spirit Awards are set to take place this week as a welcome reprieve to this elongated Oscar season. Unlike the Academy Awards, where David Fincher’s “Mank” reigns supreme with 10 nominations, the 2021 Indie Spirit Awards are dominated by Eliza Hittman’s “Never Rarely Sometimes Always,” which was shut out of the Oscar nominations. “Never Rarely” boasts seven Spirit Award nominations this year, including Best Feature and Best Director.
Unlike the Oscars, the Spirit Awards also boast a Best First Feature category to honor the greatest directorial debuts of the last year. The 2021 nominees in this category are “I Carry You With Me,” “The 40 Year Old Version,” “Sound of Metal,” “Miss Juneteenth,” and “Nine Days.” Only “Sound of Metal” broke into the Oscars among these nominees.

Ed Sheeran's manager Stuart Camp is finally weighing in on those royal rumors. The singer's representative appeared on the Oct. 2 episode of the Straight Up podcast and addressed the speculation of how Sheeran got a certain scar. Back in 2016, The Sun, citing a source, reported that Princess Beatrice accidentally cut Sheeran's face with a sword while she was jokingly pretending to knight James Blunt at a party. The Grammy winner remained tight-lipped about the alleged incident. So, the podcast's hosts, Eleanor Hall and Kathleen Johnston, wanted to learn more about it during Camp's interview. "Were you there when Princess Beatrice sliced off a bit of his cheek?" one of...

One of the best films of 2020 — and the last one I’ll get to see in a theater for who knows how long — Kelly Reichardt’s “First Cow” (Lionsgate) sees the director once again turning to the American frontier to tell a story about America now. John Magaro and Orion Lee play two men in pioneer-era Oregon who go into business selling fried-dough “oilycakes” to homesick miners, but find themselves in the crosshairs of the plutocrat who owns the territory’s only source of fresh milk. It’s gorgeous, elegaic, witty, and powerful — and you’ll crave some funnel cakes.
Also available: Director James Sweeney, who also wrote and starred, makes an impressive feature debut with “Straight Up” (Strand Releasing), about a gay man whose lack of relationship success drives him to give women one last shot; two siblings try to fulfill their grandmother’s dying wish in...

A few weeks ago, WWE superstar John Cena earned a Daytime Emmy nomination: Best Game Show as a producer of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” on Nickelodeon, which he also hosts. And pretty soon he could be joined by a couple other sports entertainment alums: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin are both on the ballot for Best Reality Host.
Johnson is a contender for “The Titan Games,” NBC’s athletic competition series in which men and women go through endurance challenges in the hopes of winning a $100,000 grand prize. The show was first eligible last year, and though it wasn’t nominated, it’s the kind of physical competition that academy members might gravitate towards having nominated “American Ninja Warrior” for the last four years in a row. And the current season started airing in May, so it would have been fresh in mind...

It’s finally the weekend and though you might expect the best incoming streaming content to be saved for the start of July, there’s actually plenty to keep subscribers to Netflix and all the major services occupied, as each site is adding some great new titles over the next few days.
Today, Friday the 26th, saw a bunch of notable new releases, including Netflix’s Will Ferrell-starring musical comedy movie Eurovision and Amazon’s secret agent comedy My Spy, with Dave Bautista. It’s no doubt something you’ve seen many times before, but Disney Plus finally just added Avengers: Infinity War as well, so you might want to give that another watch – for the 100th time. And, in case you missed it, Hulu also added the 2019 reboot of Charlie’s Angels yesterday.

With June already being such an exceptional month for Netflix subscribers, it’s just icing on the cake to keep getting even more new stuff to watch while most of us are stuck inside. This month’s already impressive list of new additions like Inside Man, V for Vendetta, The Silence of the Lambs and E.T. the Extraterrestrial will be joined now by two new movies and three new shows. They aren’t all winners, of course, but there are a few pieces of content you might want to check out over the weekend.
Most notably, Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams star in the ridiculously long-named Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, and you can rest assured that the film itself is every bit as bonkers as its outrageous title. Eurovision Song Contest tells the story of two Icelandic singers who get an opportunity to represent their country in the titular contest.

Granted, the idea of an all-talk, no-sex relationship might not be too appealing for many young adults in the 21st century. But Straight Up is not about many young adults, it's about two insecure characters who are still struggling to figure out their place(s) in the world. To be more precise, allow me to quote directly from the official description: "Todd is a hyper-articulate, obsessive compulsive gay twentysomething whose fear of dying alone leads him to a baffling conclusion: he might not be gay after all. When he meets Rory, a whip-smart struggling actress with her own set of insecurities, the two forge a relationship that's all talk and no sex. "Writer-Director-Star James Sweeney delivers a razor sharp rom-com that's equal parts Classical Hollywood and...

Featuring a lovable goof named Rory and characters that talk at a breakneck clip about topics ranging from commonly misused idioms to Paul Newman’s sexuality, “Straight Up” is basically a gay “Gilmore Girls” in indie film form. The debut feature from James Sweeney (who also stars), the film is Todd, who uses his weekly therapy sessions to talk himself in circles about his ambivalent feelings about sex. Like any well-heeled neurotic gay man, Todd (Sweeney) knows a lot about a lot of things — he just doesn’t know himself. As such, “Straight Up” is meticulous in building its hyper-stylized aesthetic, but doesn’t have much to say about the human condition.
As its title suggests, “Straight Up” doesn’t exactly fit into the label of “queer film.” Though Todd has been pegged as gay since he was a kid, bodily fluids unnerve him, a rather thin explanation for his...
