Okay for a fan movie, not enough by general standards

Warning: Spoilers
Here we have "Moon Knight", a 17-minute live action short film from 2019, so pretty new still and this was uploaded by the film's writer and director Caden Butera on the world's biggest video website where it scored pretty much exactly 200k views since end of January and now early October. Butera has worked on quite a few short film in recent years, but this one here could very well be his most famous effort so far. of course, this has mostly to do with the fact that this one is about another character from the Marvel universe, a vigilante called Moon Knight. Who you may ask and same was true for me. I have never come across this one, probably because it's been a long time since a film was made about him and of course he was also not part of the recent Avengers and superhero movies that made billions of money. Anyway, back to this one here. It is about a man who poses as a taxi driver and listens there to the criminal activities that a duo of crooks is talking about. He gets all the information he needs to basically take out a gang of criminals in the second half of the movie. What I liked here is that tehy were not scared of depicting physical violence too. The title character cuts the throat of a bad guy and severes another man's leg with the axe. Overall, it is a pretty dark movie in terms of tone and atmosphere, no comedy at all, reminded me a bit of Nolan's take on Batman. Anyway, still I felt something was missing. The lengthy scene I mentioned earlier was nicely written and directed, but still there is nothing to it really except maybe the coolness and fight sequences one after the other. Well, actually there isn't much of a fight admittedly because Moon Knight is so superior. Early on (and also briefly towards the end), we find out very vaguely about a major loss Moon Knight had to suffer that apparently turned him into what he became. There I would have wished for better explanations and elaboration too why he turned out this way. I like myself a good revenge movie, I won't deny it, but I don't think this is really it here. For a fan film it is pretty decent, but as this one here is the IMDB and not the IFMDB, I have to give it a thumbs-down overall as like I said already in the title of my review by general standards, it is not good enough. The lack of money is not the problem. It's fine that they did not cast any big players here that audiences will immediately recognize. The lead actor for example (according to imdb) has never acted in another film before. Not a problem, most of the time, we only see his mask anyway. However, money can't buy a quality script. There's no such thing in this one here. They could certainly have done more memorable stuff and 12 minutes is hrot, but not too short for a bigger impact. I read there could be actually a full feature Hollywood film on Moon Knight at some point in the next years, but what I saw here did not make me particularly curious. We'll see. As for this dozen minutes, I suggest you skip the watch. It's not a failure and here and there is an okay moment, but eventually mediocrity is more dominant and it turns out mostly forgettable. Go for something else instead.

A Surprising take on Moon Knight in a Short Fan Film!
tbdevendorf6 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
All I want to know is how did they make Moon Knight's mask emit a bright blue light!? Looks so dope!!!

I like the dude (Tim Altevers) that plays all personalities of Moon Knight (Marc Spector, Jack Lockley, Steven Grant) ....Very spot-on! Top-notch! I enjoyed how dark, and brooding the atmosphere felt. It reminded me of old school '97 Spawn mixed the recent Titans TV show.....

But still...

I actually really liked this short film a lot!!!!

Untrue to the character
alienyouthccc17 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The direction they took was a terrible decision as if they had never read a moon knight comic. First the whole giving marc a ponytail which never happened in the comic. Second the fact that it seems to jump around through every storyline instead of sticking with one. You can tell from the long hair from the bottom yet goes with the face of vengeance then makes him crazy from the 2016 and Bemis run the writing was atrocious. Lastly the most important part...the costume! Moon Knight wears all white and the lame excuse that they give is absurd to any true fan who reads the comics. The real reason is sure to be they couldnt keep it all white and didnt want to handle it. So not only do they make him look like batman they make him have an iron man mask!! Sure in vengeance he wears black one BUT it is all black! So in closing this is hard to stomach so watch at your own displeasure.

A Gritty Noir Take on the Character
joecool-0730125 February 2019
The creators here were able to stay true to the character and not shy away from the more graphic and psychological elements of Moon Knight. This Moon Knight kills like in the comics and suffers for multiple personality disorder. He's not a Batman clone. With the film's gritty noir its adds new life to the superhero medium and keeps things fresh.

This film is actually great.

A great take on the character of Moon Knight, and actually what think of when I think of a Moon Knight movie. A dark, brutal noir action movie, where all the personalities are handled accurately with the source material, and each of them have their own functions that contribute to the Moon Knight persona.

Of course, this is the best, most accurate film version of the character, since the only other Moon Knight adaptation, the Disney+ show, wich, even though a good show by itself, is pretty mediocre of an adaptation, especially compared to this. I love the lighting and the internal dialogue.

Only letdown of the movie is how most of the supporting cast is missing, wich could be something related to the budget, but the good things makes this acceptable.
