Dark City (1998)
Just saw it again tonight ...
I saw Dark City when it was released in 1998 and when I came out of the theatre I knew that this one would keep popping up in my mind for a long time as one of the best pictures that year and definately one of the best sci-fi movie ever. What a pity that it was a flop at the boxoffice, I will never understand that. When The Matrix was released I was one of those that tried to tell people to go see Dark City. Everybody was thrilled about the originality of The Matrix, but the fact is that Dark City was the true original. I just saw this movie for the second time tonight and although the experience is nothing compared to the first viewing (because one knows the plot) it thrilled me again. What a movie! Brilliant! 10 out of 10. But what happened to Alex Proyas? He has not been heard from since...
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Truly a masterpiece ...
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is by any means a true masterpiece. A masterpiece in vision, filming, set, special effects-technique, sound, music ... you name it. Words can not describe the magic I saw in it, it is simply one of the greatest film experience I have ever had - and I've been around since 1960 (come on - I went f.i. to a premier of the first and original The Planet of the Apes).
The Fellowship of the Ring will surely go down in history as one of the greatest films ever made. Everybody MUST see it (and I am sure everybody will). Congratulations Peter Jackson, cast and crew. If you are ever in the neighborhood ...
And I have to say to those few sorry souls that do not see or find the pure magic within this movie: I really, really feel sorry for you...
A Slight Case of Murder (1999)
Very, very, very good!
This one was a surprise and better than most films I've seen recently. Highly enjoyable from start to finish, this is a film that will surely satisfy 99,9% of movie fans worldwide. Great acting from everyone, great script, great story and fantastic plot and twists. Try not to miss it!
Blast from the Past (1999)
Stupid and boring.
This is a boring film that lacks everything that makes a good comedy work. I felt sorry for the actors trying desperately to do something - just something - to save this film, but the little they show is ruined by the bad directing and the overall stupidity of the storytelling. The idea of this film could have worked but it seems to me that the filmmakers simply stopped there, hoping it was enough to have an idea and this cast. For me it is not that simple. It reminded me of another bore I saw few years ago, Mrs. Winterbourne. I hope Brendan Fraser doesn't get stuck in these kind of bad movies.
Very Bad Things (1998)
Good movie
I saw this controversial film yesterday and though I can understand that one or two sceens may have been over the top for some people, I can´t understand how anyone can trash it. This is a good piece of filmmaking, very well acted and I really admire Peter Berg for his script and how he tells this ugly story in a way that kept me waiting and wondering all the time what would happen next. The "wanna talk about us"- scene in the end is brilliant and gives the film the right to be called black comedy. Before that this is a black tragedy. Laugh or don´t laugh at this movie, like or dislike the story - but it still is a good film.
Benjamín dúfa (1995)
One of Iceland´s best movies
Benjamin Dufa is one of the best Icelandic movies I´ve seen and I can highly recommend it. This is a funny but touching story about the friendship and adventures of four young boys and how their lives changed forever one summer.
Gold Raiders (1982)
So bad it becomes one of the funniest movies of all time.
This is the worst movie I have ever seen and that makes it also one of my favorites. Every single scene is so ridiculous that it becomes very, very funny in every way. This is also one of the first movies I bought because my friends and I could spend hours and hours watching it over and over again, analyzing it and laughing. I recommend it to everyone that would like to see a movie made by and with mistakes.
