Lost in Translation (2003)
It stinks on ice! Save your time and money!
The movie is so bad I could not sit through it in one sitting. And I have sit through many a bad movie from start to finish. I was bored beyond belief.
I can't believe all the critics hyping this movie, the Oscar nomination and the rating of 8 received for the movie on this web site. Did they all see the same movie I did?
It thought the premise of the movie was good, and it could have been good. But the movie had NO PLOT, poorly developed charachters, and no dialogue to speak of. The only thing interesting about the movie was the scenes of Tokyo. Some of the music wasn't bad either.
All in all, after hearing all the hype about how great this movie was, I found it a HUGE disappointment. This movie proves that talent sometimes doesn't run in the family.
My rating: 3/10. It stinks!!
Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003)
This movie is definitely a MexiCAN!
** mild spoiler **
Loved the plot. Loved Johnny Depp's evil yet quirky and sarcastic CIA charachter. Loved the other charatcters and their actors' peformances - Banderas, Rourke, Dafoe, even Hayek, but would have loved to see more of her.
I loved the soundtrack, too. I loved all the scenes of Mexico. And I loved the ending. Banderas walks off into the sunset the solitary hero wearing part of the Mexican president's uniform with the Mexican flag's colors. He holds it up to his face and kisses it, showing his efforts in thwarting Depp's evil plot were motivated out of love for his country too, and not just revenge against the drug lord. To me, that was very powerful.
And someday, I want to visit Mexico and sample some Puerco Pibil.
4 for Texas (1963)
Great flick!
I thought it was a funny, entertaining movie and especially liked Dean Martin's performance. I also enjoyed Victor Buono's performance. The Three Stooges' appearance in the film was great, and for those few minutes they stole the show!
