Gods and Generals (2003)
A Flawed Gem
The cinematography was excellent. The battle scenes were well-done. Sadly, the film tried too hard to be sympathetic to the Confederate cause. I'd have been much more impressed if the film had been a more evenhanded treatment of both sides.
Signs (2002)
Excellent, overall
It's scary in a way that Hitchcock would approve of. Scary things actually surprise the audience. People gasped and jumped in their seats. A friend talked about how she held onto her boyfriend for dear life.
It also contains some very intense psychological drama. Mel Gibson's character is forced to undergo some very real soul-searching as the events of the film play out.
Unfortunately, the film does have a few cheesy moments. Particularly, I was disappointed by the way that the film ended. I won't go into details, because I refuse to include spoilers for those who have not seen the film.
The Movement (2002)
Well worth seeing
If this is ever re-broadcast, watch it. Sadly, the original airing was virtually without publicity. As such it is liable to go completely unnoticed. It is a highly believable story about a bus hijacking and a very poignant commentary on inner-city life.
