Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
idk why this has great reviews.
This movie is highly over-rated, the script I can imagine is only 2 pages long and that would have been a good thing...if the writing was at least decent and not full of cringe ass one-liners. Characters are the most boring and uninspired creations of recent cinema and it's a pain just to watch them interact with each other.
Jet scenes are pretty cool to look at but thats just it....its cool to look at, nothing else, no substance, no plot, no nothing. I didnt expect anything good to come out of this film when I saw Joseph Kosinski in the directors seat and it came out to be exactly like his other films....uncreative subpar plots with massive holes that are just there to look cool. People think this is a great film cause of the 15 minutes for jet footage and somehow is a contender for film of the year? What a troll. Cinema is dying and films like this are the main reason the artform has losing its edge.
Terrible.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
I sleep
Terrible writing as per usual from Marvel. I couldn't get passed the first 20 minutes of the film its so bad. Marvel really has to fire their current writers cause they suck. Don't watch this film I would fall asleep faster watching this movie than I would sinking down a couple melatonin capsules.
TERRIBLE!
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
An awesome way of telling a simple story.
Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of those films where its style over substance, don't get me wrong I think the movie is good, but only that...good, with potential to be great! But it missed the mark for me a little bit, I didn't really care about the characters as we spend minimal time building them so it was hard to feel that deeper connection with them.
The visual effects and cinematography with some aspects of the screenplay were the best I've seen in a movie in the last couple years. It was really great to see such strong Asian actors kill it on screen with the long awaited Ke Huy Quan who was one of my favorite child actors playing Data on the Goonies and James Hong who I don't think I've seen I film from him since Big Trouble In Little China and last but 100% not least Michelle Yeoh who gives an absolutely stellar performance through-out the entire film, even going back to her kung-fu roots which I'm sure was a great sight to see for any kung-fu film fan me included.
What I didn't like about the film is all the answers are just given to the viewer, no room for the viewer to figure things out on their own. Some scenes didn't feel genuine and the script is quite stilted in some scenes, the pacing could have been better but its an a24 film so i guess that's expected .
BUT all in all its a good film with potential to be great.
Turning Red (2022)
Really cute film with some sick animation.
The animation is pretty sick and i was not expecting for the story to be all that substantial, but it made me eat my own words. I really liked this film and the story, I feel the Asian community have had some banger Disney pictures and this is 100% up there in the list of cool flicks.
The Godfather (1972)
What more can be said?
Amazing film / amazing cast / amazing writers / amazing production / amazing everything, 100% ahead of its time. Just breathtaking. Can't add anything that hasn't already been said about this picture.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Amazing film
Saving Private Ryan is my favorite war movie of all time, the gritty cinematography paired with the chaos that is held through-out the action segments of the movie make this film one for the ages. Tom Hanks gives in my opinion his best performance in his career. Amazing characters with such depth, makes the viewer really care for the characters and root for them. Finished the film in tears and would gladly do it more than a few times over.
Trees of Peace (2021)
Cool picture just needed a little more.
I feel this film could have been great if it just gave the viewer a little more than we got, the dialogue for this film was really great and the cinematography really makes the viewer feel like they are trapped inside the room with them. The story is where I find the biggest flaw, we get some okay character development but thats where it ends. The film closes out with nothing at the end, just cut off, and in a movie like this where character and dialogue is key we only got one half of the pie. We spend 90% of the film learning about the characters for nothing. Decent film tho.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Strong but has its weaknesses
This Tarantino film is great but doesn't go without its flaws, the characters are amazing with classic Tarantino cinematography and writing. In terms of the score of the film (being a Tarantino film) it was amazing and really set the mood for the film/scenes. The flaws now, I think the script can sometimes be very stilted and some scenes tend to drag on a little longer than I think needed to. Not one of Tarantino's strongest movies, but nonetheless is still an awesome watch.
Free Guy (2021)
Underwhelming to say the least
This movie in concept was great, but once viewed has a lot of flaws. The script is very surface level and the Ryan Renolds "comedy" was subpar to say the least. Plot felt rushed and unfinished, tried cashing out of gamers of the world with little easter eggs that had no substance. Looked cool for the sake of looking cool. The VFX were tacky and uninspiring, pacing was decent but over-all this is a film for people with the attention span of a cow.
