Bernadette (2023)
Saved by the actors
Brilliant casting Catherine Deneuve, Michel Vuillermoz, Denis Podalydès saves the movie, which is otherwise a conformist comedy trying to portraiture Bernadette Chirac as a feminist and one of the most cunning maneuvering French politician who led the conservatives for 3 decades as a dumbass. A typical product of leftist french cinema, for people who like to hear what they want to hear.
Contrary to what the movie says, Jacques Chirac was not neglecting his anorexic daughter Laurence and his second one Claude was not a pretentious potiche. And Bernadette did support Sarkozy much more than needed.
Présidents (2021)
For french viewers
If you've been following French politics, you might find it funny. Desjardins's postures are very close to the original, to the point you're disappointed he does not imitate the voice even more.
Ending is so so, but altogether a nice movie.
OSS 117: Alerte rouge en Afrique noire (2021)
This will go over many heads
I believe you need to be born in the 60s to fully understand the mix of derision and nostalgia of this movie, surely the reason why most did not get it, considering the reviews.
The first half is better than the second, though.
Immortel (ad vitam) (2004)
For the happy few
I tend to believe that you can't appreciate this movie if you're not familiar with Bilal works. The atmosphere and the scenes are gorgeous, but the scenario is botchered. A pity really.
Knives Out (2019)
Have you also read too much Agatha Christie ?
I enjoyed this movie but I must say, having read many Agatha Christie novels, I spotted the two decisive clues that brings all together, which spoiled me a little the movie. Otherwise, great casting, funny camera angles, witty dialogues.
Black Panther (2018)
Over-hyped
Charismatic actors, some creative decoration and a bit of novelty & kitsch in the pitch save this movie which otherwise has no scenario, no psychological depth and a lot of boring action. Watch only out of intellectual curiosity.
Le chant du loup (2019)
Breathtaking
This is a great film with an impressive Kassowitz. The rythm is fast, full of twists and you really feel you're in a submarine trying to save the world. I entered the theater ready to be bored, being there to please some friends, and we ended the dinner endlessly talking about it.
